Lesbian Visibility Week

As Lesbian Visibility Week comes to an end, I want to make a quick reminder that
ALL LESBIANS ARE VALID!

Cisgender and Transgender women can be lesbians. Transgender men who date women don't consider themselves lesbians. All Lesbians deserve visibility!

Additionally, many have stated that they don't wish to date transgender people. That's fine! Just because someone is in the same dating pool doesn't mean you MUST be attracted to them. Plus genital preference is also totally fine! But don't forget, trans women are women so please do not degrade them just because you personally don't wish to date them.

Plus, let's continue to educate one another on the important information. Like preventing STI's as a lesbian, domestic abuse in lesbian relationships and how to deal with that, safe and consentual sex between lesbians. This is what we need to be educating young lesbians and bisexual women on.

Have a fabulous long weekend all 🤍🌈

Because cisgender is being a female woman and transgender is being anything else.

This is super transphobic Sugar

@YetAnotherSpartacus

Yes, a very appropriate week to give tribute to the life of Magdalen Flowers.
Yes, Magdalen was an absolute star and it is a sign of how life is not fair that she is no longer with us. I will be sharing her videos with my daughter, who has recently changed sexuality from pansexual to Iesbian. (Though who knows how long that will last).
Erkrie · 01/05/2021 11:22

Magdalene was wonderful. I must introduce my daughter to her work.

According to the Oxford language dictionary the definition of lesbian is "a gay woman". Which trans women can be.

The Oxford languages dictionary also defines woman as “an adult female human being”.

Ergo, a lesbian is “a gay adult female human being”.

I think that clarifies some of the mystery around lesbians?

Erkrie · 01/05/2021 11:36

Yes it does.

I wonder if people would simply be happier in their lives if they reflected on why they need to have so much external validation. The constant cry that 'trans people are valid' always strikes me as worrying. Of course trans people exist, they aren't ghosts. But it isn't my responsibility to provide you with constant external validation of your identity. What other part of society demands this kind of validation? If you are secure in your identity (and -gestures broadly at twitter- people claim to be) why does it matter if people don't repeat the mantra? Why do you need strangers to constantly affirm you and bolster your sense of self?

Helleofabore · 01/05/2021 11:54

It is always interesting to hear some of the background of LGB Alliance. Kate and Bev have a very unambiguous history in working towards equal rights for lesbians and for actively doing something at least to prevent further abuse of lesbians by groups who have harmful intentions (whether they are away of those harmful intentions or not).

HamsterV2 · 01/05/2021 11:55

Because women who say "no" are seen as gatekeeping trans people's existence.

It’s amazing such brazen homophobia is both proudly posted and allowed to stand.

persistentwoman · 01/05/2021 12:00

@Thecatonthemat

I’m a lesbian and posts like this are like an irritating fly buzzing around that you can’t be bothered to swat. Thank you for the solidarity shown here by so many on these threads . They serve as a horrible warning as to what to expect if we give one inch on this craziness.
Another lesbian here who stays away from these threads where individuals appropriate lesbian experiences for their own narrow demands.

If they weren't attempting to persuade young women to ignore their feelings and personal boundaries, I'd just laugh. Instead I find these threads very threatening.

Being a woman still seems to include doing endless, thankless work for other humans. So this should come as no surprise really.

It's all about women's emotional labour and trans people's need for affirmation/validation. The whole "be kind" thing.

It's sad really, as it's the trans person who made the DECISION to transition, so shouldn't they be sufficiently validated they're making the right choice?

Erkrie · 01/05/2021 12:06

I do too. For my young daughter who is a lesbian. It frightens me that there is so much homophobia these days, I thought we had made progress. Instead the clock has wound back to the 80's, but it actually feels worse than that. How do I protect my daughter? How does she protect herself? It feels society has become so unpleasant and dangerous these days.

Bordois · 01/05/2021 12:14

This is heading back to the days where same sex attracted people are either forced back into the closet or have to endure abuse and discrimination.

All in the name of inclusivity!

WhoNeedsaManOfTheWorld · 01/05/2021 12:40

I think homophobia is worse now
Trans is a terrifyingly, powerful movement that identifies as being the most oppressed of any other group
The MRA section wish to remove all rights of women to words that define them and any male free spaces. The women that support this will find the movement turns on them the minute they fail to comply 100%
Boundaries of women and children are being trampled

Erkrie · 01/05/2021 12:48

I think homophobia is worse now. It seems like a pushback on all the progress we had made. Society should be in a really good place with this stuff by now, it felt it was heading that way to me. Then suddenly, this terrifying turnaround that makes things less safe now than it was back in the 80s. Where lesbians are afraid to even speak up. And that's really saying something.

RedDogsBeg · 01/05/2021 13:04

The Law has been patiently and repeatedly explained to ASugarr, who continues to ignore this.

ASugarr's definitions are not what the Law says, ASugarr does not make the Law in the UK and has no authority or right to re-write or misinterpret said Laws. Sooner or later the wilful ignorance of the Law will catch up with ASugarr.

Love and support to all the lesbians on here, the way you have been treated and continue to be treated is appalling, it's high time what's happened and is happening to you hits the Courts.

I say let those people come out into the sunlight and show the world who they are.

That’s the thing. When we were fighting Section 28, or pretty much forever when we’ve had abuse for not being into penis, it’s always been very clear which side is the oppressor / abuser. But now they’ve pulled an absolute blinder on us.
