I don't even know where to start with the inaccuracies in this article. It's making my blood boil.

Yes no doubt the 'author' is looking for feedback here.

Let's hope they will be disappointed when the judgement comes in.

@TinselAngel

I may have accidentally maligned you Don't you know who I am?! Grin
I do now Grin
BrizzleGirl · 27/04/2021 21:35

@HermioneWeasley

Let’s not give it clicks. Let’s just ignore and revel in the fact that it’s very likely that tomorrow knowing humans can’t change sex and that sex and gender identity are not the same thing, will be a protected characteristic, and we can’t be fired for it.

What an amazing gift that will be to all the women who’ve been afraid to speak out. Thank you Maya!

Yes indeed!

@Tibtom

I would rather a man have tbe right to say women are intellectually inferior to men than for him to be sacked for saying so and have his livelihood destroyed. If he can say it then I can argue with him. If he can't say it then his anger and sense of righteousness is likely to destroy us both.
Hell yes.

Here's the other author completely misrepresenting the case in a tweet.

Surely all of us who have a protected characteristic under the Equality Act are already protected from discrimination?
Scepticaltank · 27/04/2021 22:14

No-one was harassed for any reason. The discrimination was against Mayas beliefs. Maya is claiming discrimination against her.

This tweet turns the case on its head and claims it permits harassment. Which is utter nonsense, but that's par for the course. There's no truth they can use to elicit sympathy, so make up shit.

To be fair, the author of that piece and frequent upbraider of posters on FWR, is consistent in disliking actions that are congruent with asserting the rights of women as a sex class.

IIRC Women's sex based rights are usually compared to Apartheid.
R0wantrees · 27/04/2021 22:37

I am rather mystified as to what the authors understand the function of the workplace to be and the relationship they feel they are entitled to have with their colleagues.
As is often the case with many transactivists, important descriptors such as 'abuse' and 'discrimination' are seized and re-purposed.

(extract)
"And now to find that every day, when they go to work, someone can reject their identity in the most fundamentally abusive terms. It is unthinkable"

The respectful and free expression of controversial, challenging beliefs is the lifeblood of an open, democratic society. But freedom of speech comes with responsibility. There is not freedom to incite violence, nor religious or racial hatred, nor to inflict a workplace on a trans person where they face discrimination at any moment."

Thingybob · 27/04/2021 22:40

@R0wantrees

Molly Mulready is closely involved with Jolyon Maugham/Good Law Project's 'Trans Defence Fund' and was asked to set up its advisory group. This is primarily concerned with seeking to overturn the Judicial Review findings of Bell Vs Tavistock NHS.
She has also been very open about being a Mermaids Mum

“Independent” 😆😆

TinselAngel · 27/04/2021 22:43

the most fundamentally abusive terms.

Are they talking about misgendering here?

EmbarrassingAdmissions · 27/04/2021 22:53

Well, quite.

Are they talking about misgendering here?

It might just be the word, "No" - several of the Rules of Misogyny might be in play, here. (Disclaimer - I haven't and won't click the clickbait.)

inflict a workplace???? Dearie me.

AfternoonToffee · 27/04/2021 23:24

@Trixie78

I think this is one of the worst lies......

If Ms Forstater succeeds before the court, a man at work will have the protection of the law to make those statements at work whenever he likes, causing whatever damage he likes to the women he works with.

In years go by when pregnant with my second child I had a strange colleague, who quite happily shared with me his view that mothers should be at home and I was to be congratulated on the fact that I was planning not to return to work after I had the baby (obviously ignoring my 1 year old first born). This idea that suddenly a successful case will allow men to say what they are really thinking is just bizarre, they already do, and as previously said they usually get pulled up on it pdq.
Nodal · 27/04/2021 23:27

Thank you maya for standing up for women's rights - I think you are very brave

Miljea · 27/04/2021 23:28

I apologise, on my iPhone, just hitting 'f' here.

Have briefly read the initial issue, and am feeling Maya has been shafted, as it were. Will read, study, and respond.

Re the OP article by Robin White and Molly Mulready:

Sarah Philimore (Family lawyer) tweet comment,

"Once again we have the singularly depressing sight of a barrister willing to misrepresent the truth in pursuit of an ideology.

Let’s examine the Maughmology of this piece.

"Forstater wants to refer to that woman as “he”, regardless of the pain that would cause."

False. MF was clear she would use pronouns of choice in the workplace, out of courtesy.

"Forstater claims the right to knowingly cause pain, and not be required to respect the true identity of a trans woman."

Nonsense. MF claims the right not to be compelled to believe what she doesn't think is true. How is 'true identity' of a transwoman defined?

I thought we all agreed now that 'born in the wrong body' should be consigned to the bin? What 'true identity' of anyone does a belief in biological sex 'disrespect'?

It is an interesting over playing of a hand from a barrister who represents Stonewall over accusations that they over play theirs."
