I've never seen a board I agree with so much, but I am from texas. I love this board!! Does anyone here frequent other huge rad feminist/ gender critical boards? How is it possible your board seems so devoid of male trolling?

OP posts:

Hi, OP. This is what you may have to deal with to have an opinion.

It's Orwellian.

I have to bow out to sleep. Let me know if I can be of service.

Maybe you can tell us all how sec doesn't matter?!

You seem very confused. You’re certainly confusing me.

I’m gender critical. I said a couple of things to OP. You started talking to me ( and in a hostile manner), I did not address you. Now you’re apparently arguing with yourself.

It’s probably better if we ignore each other.

I think sometimes on this page people let loose on newcomers or those new to the line, who don't know the routine. It's a UK site, and I respect that.

Even a broken clock gets the time right twice a day.

I'm an American feminist who's been fed up with Republicans and evangelical Christians from quite a young age. I've never voted anything other than Green (very progressive and very small) or Democrat. I also support BLM in my local community, am VERY anti-gun and pro-climate protection, anti-surrogacy and egg donation - probably the furthest thing from an American conservative you can get (women are encouraged by Evangelical Christians to be vessels for babymaking - hello GILEAD). I found MN because American feminist Facebook groups and GC reddit were infiltrated/shut down by TRAs.

Remember the Women's March? Support was sky high in 2017 - then a few years later, it petered out, in large part to political extremists (anti-semites, TRAs and Farrakhan obsessed) taking over the orgs. The majority of the women marching in the US were pissed about Trump, worried about losing abortion rights and fed up w/ sexual harassment. But then, the small, but vocal extremists asked American women to put away our pink pussy hats by people who clearly had never seen a real one up close (they ain't hot pink and yes, we all have them) and asked us to stop talking about biology - which, for American women who don't even HAVE all sex-based rights in our constitution, is quite shocking. (no Equality Act here).

the Shizes of the internet have little understanding of American politics, our binary political parties or our feminism...but other American feminists reading, I know you are out there - probably talking in quiet. We exist in small groups as progressive parents quietly whispering in fear for our children who seem taken by an ideology we see as extremely regressive, misogynistic and the opposite of feminism.

So thank you brilliant women of MN for allowing us this space to learn and connect - English makes it easier for Americans to be here and this American is very grateful.

Second Lipstick Alley - I only lurk there, but they rock.

Delphinium20 My SIL and niece were at that march- I was so proud of them and delighted at all the women joining together ... then it was infiltrated and taken over as you say. And women turned their back on it in the same way lesbians are turning their backs on Pride marches, International Women's day, and all the rest. Cuckoos are pushing us out of our own nests.
Fine. We’ll build new nests. With frigging barbed wired boundaries. Be kind? Fuck that!

I think Mumsnet was set up by intelligent, thinking women, and it shows. I was radicalised not by Mumsnet, but by becoming a mum. Your rose tinted glasses smash pretty quickly during maternity leave, and while you google colic and breastfeeding, this place pops up and you realise what you really need to google is help in regaining your identity and earning power.

Completely agree, that was my trajectory too. Having kids opens your eyes in many ways, and I've never felt my oppression so keenly until I was treated so badly by my husband over the kids. MN (Mumsnet,OP) was a life-saver.
PermanentTemporary · 27/04/2021 07:38

The answer is that MN is under pressure all the time. It's relatively well established (just about 20 years now??) and had a big media presence from the start because it was set up by serious women with significant media experience. However it had a gentle start as I don't think they thought of it as a big player at the beginning. I was here back in the days when they used to ask for subscriptions on a very ad hoc basis, the switch to advertiser funding was a big one.

Attacks on MN are fairly relentless including DDOS and the founder getting armed police sent to her home. They have adapted as thibgs have gone on. Maybe She Who Must Not Be Named did the site a favour by suing in 2004 as it 'blooded' us all in the problems of getting well known. There is a big team of moderators. It is not an amateur setup and it is female led.

Speaking of Texas, this popped up on twitter:

twitter.com/swipewright/status/1386877205318230016?s=21

*1/ Sex spectrum pseudoscience is being presented as fact by a Texas Democrat in a hearing on trans athletes. He makes the absurd claim that there are 6 (!) biological sexes.

These ideas were embarrassing when they were relegated to Tumblr. Now they're in government proceedings.*

Link to film of Democrat in tweet.
