Following comments to a caller on a BBC radio show by Patrick Harvie, the leader of the Scottish Greens, it would seem that Harvie Hates Women is trending on twitter.

That's exactly how it goes.

Abhannmor · 23/04/2021 09:55

@NiceGerbil

Twitter isn't the real world.

That radio prog was the real world and Mo was a real person.

Have politicians forgotten that social media and especially those who use it heavily are a small subset?

Great point. I was so relieved to discover only 8% of humans are on Twitter!
vivariumvivariumsvivaria · 23/04/2021 10:22

I bet he's still spitting about Mo's call.

Go Mo!

Keepitonthedownlow · 23/04/2021 10:31

Well done Mo you were brilliant 👏

LatinforTelly · 23/04/2021 10:38

Mo was brilliant.

Harvie outright lied on that phone call (apart from the far right gumpf). He said replacing "gender" with "sex" in the Forensic Services bill made no difference legally. This is a lie of Trumpian standards. How can they live with themselves? Do they not think, if they have to lie to make their point, they might be in the wrong?

vivariumvivariumsvivaria · 23/04/2021 11:51

If he lied, and is an elected representative, then, is that not problem?

I'm confused by these things - but parliamentary privilege only applies to within parliament? Not on daytime radio programmes? If he's misleading the public in the run up to an election is that not contravening something or another?

ArabellaScott · 23/04/2021 12:45

Yes.

AssassinatedBeauty · 23/04/2021 13:01

Parliamentary privilege is about speech in Parliament. It's not about lying in general, it protects MPs speaking in Parliament from being sued for defamation if they say things that aren't backed by evidence. For example, Lord Hain named Phillip Green as the person at the centre of a court case citing the public interest, despite there being a court injunction not to name him.

Bog standard lying, of the sort Johnson, Trump and so on do just as easily as they breath is not an offence or even a breach of standards. The only redress you have is to choose not to vote for them.

Rhannion · 23/04/2021 15:05

He is a lying bastard and I hope he has his arse handed to him on a plate at the election.

vivariumvivariumsvivaria · 23/04/2021 15:26

Thanks, Assassinated. I'd just love to see him have his arse handed to him. Mind you, I think James Dreyfuss might have done that on twitter this afternoon. I can't link it just now - but it's worth a look at his video. Very cheering for a Friday afternoon.

You beat me to it with the Twitter link. 😄

Strange that they all made such a big fuss about it then, really.

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 29/04/2021 12:45

He was interviewed on Sky today. TWAW in the same way that black women and Jewish women are women...

@NiceGerbil

Fucking hell he made a hash of that

www.bbc.co.uk/sounds/play/m000v97v

Listen from 57.20 it's only a couple mins.

His audible intake of breath when he was talking about rape victims being able to request a female doc when he just didn't know what the fuck to say.

The caller was brilliant. Thank you caller! (I think she was called Mo).

Caller was great. He sounded totally put on the spot and could only keep repeating how "women" includes TWs and that he was supported by womens organisations in Scotland. I think a few eyebrows might be raised at that claim.
Datun · 29/04/2021 13:11

I'm seeing a lot of 'it's not just me, everyone thinks it'. Women think it! It's been this way for ages, this is nothing new, it's not just me.

Cabinfever10 · 29/04/2021 13:16

Well he made a right mess of that🤣

Yes. Yet more gaslighting from misogynistic men.

334bu · 29/04/2021 17:37

What a a wee nyaff!

Of course he did. All politicians do when asked a direct question like that by mainstream media. The TRA belief structure does not stand up to even the most cursory examination by someone neutral.
MidsomerMurmurs · 29/04/2021 20:02

I have no particular love for Stuart Campbell’s Wings Over Scotland website, but he uncompromisingly nails the implications of gender ideology in ways that are familiar to FWR contributors. And he has an audience and fairly high profile. I wonder if posting a link to his latest post on Patrick Harvie would lead to this being deleted, but it’s definitely worth popping over to Wings to see the light being shone on the Scottish Greens

Re Wings over Scotland and acknowledging when he's got something right, it's the equivalent of those MN posters who get a fit of the vapours at something sensible in The Daily Mail. He is spot on about Harvie.
ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 29/04/2021 20:28

MNHQ have previously deleted links to Wings as "not in the spirit"...
