Is this just an election ploy because they dont want to be beaten into 3rd place by Alba?

.... The party’s manifesto, launched today, also says the party will introduce new guidance to “prevent harmful stereotyping” around gender, and that it will use the Equality Act of 2010 to frame equality policies.

The focus on single-sex issues in the manifesto comes as it was revealed the party had received a complaint about a tweet by one of its candidates which depicted a women’s organisation as the equivalent of the Ku Klux Klan. ...

Politicians will do absolutely anything to get votes. Remember Nick Clegg and the tuition fee backtrack.
Labour are very well aware that they have lost a considerable number of women voters (and men such as myself) who are GC, who want to see sex based categories in sport, prisons, refuges, hospitals etc.

But “single sex” to them, means all sexes.

stumbledin · 23/04/2021 14:25

In the article it says they are going to implement policies in line with the 2010 EA - which has been clarified as meaning the right to sex based services. Sex as in biological. Gender re-assigned although a protected characteristic does not trump other protected characteristics.

But presumably for anyone in Scotland thinking of voting Labour worth asking candidates direct?!

But I think I should have said in my OP beaten into 4th place because I think I am right in saying the Tories have more than Labour.

Have the Scottish Tories made any statement?

@MichelleofzeResistance

Subtext: it's labelled single sex, but you can pick any sex you like.

This is flat out deceitful.

I'd respect them more if they'd just flat out own it. 'We don't care about women and their needs and feelings and the women who will self discharge and be excluded; our priority is always that some female people must lose provision and suffer so that male people can take their preferred choice of all the provisions'.

Own it you bunch of hypocrites. If you believe it, say it. Stand on it and let people vote, honestly, knowing what they're voting for.

This. Bloody well own it.

Don't believe it. I really don't. Sorry. I'm as cynical as fuck after years of all this.

It will mean single sex AND anyone can be any sex they like.

I'm willing to open the book and put a bet on it. Until I see evidence of clear, strong boundaries that any group using single sex exemptions is fully and publicly supported, I would not trust Labour any further than I can spit.

I had a phone call from the Scottish Labour Party this week - asking me if I knew how I was going to vote, and what topics in particular were most important to me. The chap on the end of the phone got a real earful on gender vs sex, single sex spaces, fairness for women - and he agreed with me! I suspect this was his personal view - I wasn’t kidding myself that it was official policy.

I doubt it did much good - though he did say my views would be passed on.

I wish Welsh Labour would do this. I am determined to vote for a party that respects women and so far that means conservative.
