California prisons begin moving hundreds of transgender women requesting transfer under new law

www.latimes.com/california/story/2021-04-05/california-prisons-consider-gender-identity-housing-requests

Archived version archive.md/9T3zo#selection-1983.9-1983.104

I know we've talked a lot already about prisons, but this just makes me sick. Those poor women :(

From the article:

But more than two hours away, at the Central California Women’s Facility in Chowchilla, there’s fear. Inmates say guards have warned them that “men are coming” and to expect sexual violence.

“That if we think it’s bad now, be prepared for the worst. That it’s going to be off the hook, it’s going to be jumping,” Tomiekia Johnson, 41, said staffers have told her. “They say we’re going to need a facility that’s going to be like a maternity ward. They say we’re going to have an inmate program where inmates become nannies.” Hmm

Any women showing concern are 'transphobic' and need to be ''educated''.

Although advocates and inmates say the transfers have been received well, several claim that misinformation spread by prison staffers is stirring up transphobia and that more must be done to educate inmates.

Transwomen need and deserve to be kept safe too, that should go without saying, but putting one vulnerable group in danger to keep another safe is not the answer. Predators absolutely will exploit this.

I hope a class action lawsuit is on the horizon, but how many women will have to be harmed before it comes to that?

It would, wouldn't it.

It is very interesting which threads they swerve, if they are so confident that their view is the right side of history and they have all the facts, evidence and a winning argument they'd be all over these threads like a rash but as always radio silence.

They're cowards, they lack the courage of their convictions and they won't admit they just plain don't care about the already vulnerable and abused and traumatised women who will suffer appalling harm.

quixote9 · 09/04/2021 06:43

The most gobsmacking of all the gobsmacking things is that so many people can't even see it.

Male violence is turned into women's problem. "Humane" solutions make women into sacrificial animals (and I do mean animals, creatures who count for absolutely nothing).

And the media and politicians and so so so so many people cannot even see the pain. Because it's just women.

^Guards said “that if we think it’s bad now, be prepared for the worst. That it’s going to be off the hook, it’s going to be jumping,” inmate Tomiekia Johnson told the Times. “They say we’re going to need a facility that’s going to be like a maternity ward. They say we’re going to have an inmate program where inmates become nannies.”

Nina McQueen, a transgender woman and inmate at Mule Creek , said she had helped prison staff identify male inmates who attempted to transfer to women’s facilities by pretending to be transgender.

“They wanted me in a confidential setting to tell them who is transgender and who is not, so they can block some of these guys from going to the women’s prison,” McQueen said. “I told him I don’t have a problem with it….We feel they’re climbing our backs.”^

www.news.yahoo.com/amphtml/hundreds-transgender-california-inmates-request-202324393.html

so how do you think women feel?

McQueen and the guards should be reported for transphobia for disbelieving the lived experience of hitherto oppressed transwomen who are only just beginning to live as their authentic selves.

I am hoping the entire male prison population declares as transgender, may be the only way out of this mess.

zanahoria · 09/04/2021 09:05

actually, would be better if they all declared gender fluid, imagine the authorities having to cope with all those interchanging girl and boy modes? They could always employ Eddie as a special consultant to help them distribute lippy and false tits where they are urgently needed.

yourhairiswinterfire · 09/04/2021 09:28

A female guard has spoken out anonymously, too. She says several female correctional officers are upset by this new law.

I'd rather post these screenshots on the thread, but MN is playing up and won't let me post pictures, so it'll have to be a twitter link.

twitter.com/OkBiology/status/1380133924349829122

If the female guards don't want to perform the searches on these inmates, they'll be ordered to by the supervisor. If they refuse, they're likely to be fired.

Is this not some form of sexual abuse? Forcing women to intimately handle bodies they don't want to with the threat of losing their job if they don't?

The system is truly lucky to have a benevolent and wise person who can see people's souls!
I'm sure it's been called transphobic in the past to say that stating one is transgender might not be enough to be transgender.
No-one here has ever been able to specify exactly how we know whether it's possible to falsely claim oneself is transgender and if so, how we would know whether someone is or not.

adviceseekingnamechanger · 09/04/2021 11:01

@RedDogsBeg

I agree & to be more specific: females of a lower socio-economic class being raped is just collateral damage. There are women as well as men who support this policy in California and they will be supporting it because getting the associated virtue signaling credentials matters more to them than protecting low-income vulnerable women of color in the prison system. They can overlook the resulting rapes & assaults because they'll be happening to women who are so remote from their own experience that they barely see them as human. They'll never be going to jail. That's something that happens to the poors so it doesn't matter to them.

Perhaps those liberal, TWAW, shouting feminists and their allies could tell us why:

  1. Those black lives don't matter
  2. Those women's lives don't matter

come on own up and own what you are doing to women and particularly women of colour, I dare you.

I would love to see an answer to this.
MichelleofzeResistance · 09/04/2021 12:33

They won't. Because it cannot be done without admitting the fundamental fact underpinning all of this demand to end single sex spaces for females.

A fixed, unquestioned belief that females are a subclass of human to the superior race of males.

That's it. That's all. They'll tell you there's no such thing as sex, while every action is sex based and entirely focused on furthering the interests and choices and valuing of one sex at the direct expense of the other.

Re the searching: already on record comments from UK female police officers explaining what it is like to search a smirking male person who has self declared and is making no secret of their power and enjoyment of a woman's discomfort and enforced touching.

This is using non consenting women's bodies.

Why the fucking hell aren't people having kittens about this? This is the same bunch of social justice warriors who will rant for hours about injustice, inclusion, lived experience, feeling unsafe, triggers, class injustice...... it's all utter bollocks isn't it? They're just useful, meaningless words.

I feel the way you feel. I am doing all I can to raise this matter with MoJ, the Home Office and the Prison service. It is madness, and any right minded person is shocked that this is a happening in England & Wales.

A review is being carried out, and common sense must prevail, I have actioned various FOI requests over the years,

NO woman should be expected to share a female only prison with biological males. COMMON SENSE MUST & WILL PREVAIL.

it is injustice - and i cannot close my eyes to it.

Nina McQueen, a transgender woman and inmate at Mule Creek , said she had helped prison staff identify male inmates who attempted to transfer to women’s facilities by pretending to be transgender.

It is rather bizarre that the prison authorities appear to have recruited an inmate to verify requests from other inmates - might they be creating a system that is open to just a tiny bit of corruption? (Apart from the obvious issue of how do you tell).

It is starting to sound like a prison system in Thailand or Mexico where it is pretty much a free for all and the guards are just there for decoration.

Best of luck with your efforts Alex2112. Dm if there is anything I can do to help - research or letter writing.

anyone got a cure for head pain after head desk moment?

StarCat2020 · 10/04/2021 01:13

Anyone got a cure for sick to the pit of my stomach?

Speechless about this.

Zinco · 10/04/2021 02:48

And they can put it down in the statistics as an increase in sexual violence coming from women.

glitterfarts · 11/04/2021 17:58

I really hope that these women, when they are raped by biological men who have been convicted of sex offences (therefore a KNOWN RISK to women) SUE the absolute pants off the justice system.

I hope they can find some human rights lawyer who actually follows HUMAN rights and will take these cases.

It'll only take a few big payouts before the law is reversed and lawmakers see sense.

Why aren't the prisons creating whole wings for transgender people so they don't have to be housed with women and then therefore women aren't at risk of rape.

Separate bathrooms, bedrooms/cells, separate wing therefore separate outside time hopefully.

We have a UK woman currently trying to make a case against the UK Prison System that allowed her to be sexually assaulted by a male born prisoner she was locked up with. If I remember, the judges are currently waiting for the prison system to come up with information they hadn't thought to collate, such as how many male prisoners actually have been put in the women's estate.

I have the same reaction to that as I did when I learned that the panel meetings to consider a male prisoner being moved to the women's estate, and the risk assessment done, considers only and solely meeting all the needs of the male person involved. No one speaks for or considers the women prisoners.

So so sad to read, as you rightly state the case is clear, the Prison service appears to be more supportive of the male person.

I am doing all I can with Prison service, but very wary what I say on here, as my posts repeatedly get deleted by Mumsnet ... and I am on final warning,

StarCat2020 · 11/04/2021 19:56

such as how many male prisoners actually have been put in the women's estate
Problem is using the twisting of both reality and statistics, the answer that will be given to this question is ZERO because TWAW and all that.

Utterly disgusted by this and so glad that I don't have daughters. How on Earth can you tell them that everybody matters except of course those with vaginas?

I often submit FOI requests which are fully answered

Last one I got reply to was FOI200805011transgenderandintersex_population
Can be found via google, I do them every 6 mths, this one was particular for my local prisons, but stated 9 male prisoners (who ID as female) held in England & Wales female estate - 2018 - 19

THIS IS FACTUAL - do not delete please .

I am doing all I can, in communication with MOJ and Prison service to get review to see sense. I also look at this from intersex POV

It’s also worth visiting keep-prisons-single-sex.org.uk. They’ve got suggestions on what women can do to help, & an international section now with a lot of information on California.
