Help needed with terfisaslur website

genderschmender · 26/03/2021 10:13

Hi mumsnetters,

I'm new to this board but I'm hoping some of you may be able to help me. I run the terfisaslur.com site and after years of neglecting it, I'm finally getting round to updating it so that it continues to be useful.

I've got a full time job and small kids, so it's a huge job to keep on top of. It would be really helpful if people could send me either links or screenshots to things they think should appear.

The general categories are:
violent threats and violent imagery
abuse, harassment and dehumanizing language
erasing female biology
centering trans women in feminism and women's spaces
cotton ceiling
autogynephilia

I have updated the first two categories recently, but the rest are now quite out of date. And I'm sure things have only got worse in that time, not better! So if you know of anything I'm missing that it would be good to include, please would you either email them to me, or send me a DM on twitter?

Email: [email protected]
twitter: @schmendergender

Thanks so much in advance!

That's not what "slur" means.

R0wantrees · 26/03/2021 10:52

@Shizuku

That's not what "slur" means.
noun

an insinuation or allegation about someone that is likely to insult them or damage their reputation.

Barracker · 26/03/2021 10:53

I'm thrilled you're doing this, genderschmender. It's such a useful website and to have it updated will only make it that much more powerful.
I can circulate this update on twitter but want to be sure you're ready - I'm sure you are very aware you'll be deluged.
Shall I go ahead?

TheRabbitOfCaerbannog · 26/03/2021 10:57

Hi OP, fantastic that you're keeping a record of the appalling behaviour going on online. I know people will understandably be wary of emailing - perhaps a dedicated thread here?

Datun · 26/03/2021 10:57

@Shizuku

That's not what "slur" means.
Wrong.

UK COURT JUDGE:
District Judge John Woollard acknowledged 'Terf' as a derogatory word aimed at, primarily, gender critical women. (Basildon Magistrate's Court on 01/03/2019 REGINA vs YARDLEY).

*All Party Parliamentary Group Report on Hate Crime:

On threats & encouragement of violence towards 'terfs' -
"It can easily be argued that this constitutes hate speech under Criminal Justice Act, which people have been successfully prosecuted for.*

I can't find you on twitter though OP

AdHominemNonSequitur · 26/03/2021 10:59

Would you like to redefine that too Shizuku?

TheRabbitOfCaerbannog · 26/03/2021 11:01

No account in that name on Twitter

DialSquare · 26/03/2021 11:05

I can see it on my mobile.

NecessaryScene1 · 26/03/2021 11:05

No account in that name on Twitter

There is now, 0 followers/following, possibly created in the last few seconds by a monitor?

Typo in original post?

Wandawomble · 26/03/2021 11:07

I’m so glad they came in to correct us - we silly women don’t speak good.
SunsetBeetch · 26/03/2021 11:08

Hi OP and welcome! Thanks for your hard work.

We have a couole of threads that could be helpful, although you may have the older ones already

That's not what "slur" means.

That's not what "means" means. Or possibly "not".

Or actually, you might have got "that" wrong.

This might take a while.

(I vaguely remember going through this wordplay phase in my own adolescence. Seems so long ago now. Don't think it ever worked on my Mum, so I got bored quite fast.)

SunsetBeetch · 26/03/2021 11:12

@Shizuku

That's not what "slur" means.
Regardless of what you think, I suspect the world will keep turning and the OP will keep running her website.
RoyalCorgi · 26/03/2021 11:14

I know people will understandably be wary of emailing - perhaps a dedicated thread here?

Agree. I know we all hope that the OP is who she says she is, but there is always a risk of emailing someone who is simply trying to gather a list of feminists for doxxing and harassment purposes.

NecessaryScene1 · 26/03/2021 11:16

The e-mail address is as displayed on the site, so not worried about that, unless the site has been hacked.

I'm concerned about the Twitter account though. OP may have mistyped it, and someone may have just created the mistyped one for harvesting purposes.

Outbutnotoutout · 26/03/2021 11:33

Would someone possibly dm me the court ruling which said "terf is a slur"

I am going through investigation at work as I posted some GC stuff, deemed transphobic.

One of the internal people has called me a TERF and I want to counter act.

Shizuku · 26/03/2021 11:34

It's like calling you a "tory". If I call you a tory, I see it as a bad thing, but it's not inherently a slur because whether or not being a tory is a bad thing, is a matter of opinion. If I call you a tory idiot, then that's a different matter - "idiot" is a slur.

TheRabbitOfCaerbannog · 26/03/2021 11:37

Tory is not an acronym containing the term "exclusionary" which is intended to mark out women who disagree with gender ideology as bigots.

WarriorN · 26/03/2021 11:37

It may be best to post anything here for now.

Op, women are wary for good reason.

TheRabbitOfCaerbannog · 26/03/2021 11:39

Agree Warrior - maybe OP could return to reassure / set up dedicated thread? I know there are other threads available as a resource anyway as pp has posted.

WarriorN · 26/03/2021 11:40

(Rabbit I've also sent you a pm, hope that's ok)

Shizuku · 26/03/2021 11:45

@TheRabbitOfCaerbannog

Tory is not an acronym containing the term "exclusionary" which is intended to mark out women who disagree with gender ideology as bigots.
Well, either you exclude trans women from the category "woman" or you don't. If you do, you are by definition "trans exclusionary". Again, whether or not that's a bad thing is a matter of personal opinion, but it's not a slur. If someone calls you a stupid T*, then "stupid is definitely a slur, but T* isn't.
MrsSteveMcDonald · 26/03/2021 11:48

I exclude transwomen from the category of woman but include transmen. Exclusionary or inclusionary?
