English teacher tells class that JKR is transphobic

Just that really.
I'm absolutely fuming.
30 kids now "hate" JKR apparently.
This is an abuse of influence surely, not to mention a worrying lack of critical thinking.
I've printed out the "transphobic" tweets so my Y7 child can make up their own mind. With a lot of ranting from me in the background Angry.

@NecessaryScene1

She's been analysed to death by people all over the internet

Yes, I think that's actually a pretty fair representation. "Analysed to death".

As opposed to being listened to and responded to.

She got plenty of that too.

Shame she never bothered to fucking listen or respond to the people she hurt with her transphobia.

midgeswithnofingernails · 27/03/2021 17:19

If people were hurt because they decided she was transphobic well they are their own worst enemy

midgeswithnofingernails · 27/03/2021 17:21

Where exactly does she express fear, distrust or hatred of trans people? Print just one sentence or paragraph . Just one

nauticant · 27/03/2021 17:26

Yes, I'd be interested to see this too. Give it your best shot Hibari. Only one rule: JKR's own words.

Biscuitsanddoombar · 27/03/2021 17:27

You’ll be waiting forever midge!

AvocadoBathroom · 27/03/2021 17:27

@Hibari if people are hurt by a woman saying that sex is real and that women need safe spaces we have to wonder what kind of people they are. People who do not believe in biology and do not want women to be safe?

Sounds pretty fucked up to me.

AvocadoBathroom · 27/03/2021 17:29

@Hibari do you believe that male-sexed people have the right to undress and shower in a communal changing room with teenage girls?

midgeswithnofingernails · 27/03/2021 17:34

I am waiting

Mumofgirlswholiketoplaywithmud · 27/03/2021 17:35

@midgeswithnofingernails

If people were hurt because they decided she was transphobic well they are their own worst enemy
The problem is young impressionable children adolescents who are trans are basically being told "JK hates you" by adults who should know better. The adults propagating this lie are the ones responsible for the hurt caused to the children.

Imagine being told that your favourite author hated you. When it wasn't even true. It's like the people spreading these baseless accusations don't even care about the children hurt by them.

Mumofgirlswholiketoplaywithmud · 27/03/2021 17:39

Did the teacher question whether there would be any teanagers who consider themselves trans in the room? Did they think that they were giving a message of solidarity when they said "this person hates you so I'm not going to buy and of the merchandise associated with them.." (and by implication anyone who owns or likes that merchandise also hates you by extension...)

This message - a whole bunch of people you don't even know hate you and wish you dead- is not good for young people's mental health.

nauticant · 27/03/2021 17:40

"Everyone outside of this supportive group hates you". Now, what groups give that kind of message to their members?

Mumofgirlswholiketoplaywithmud · 27/03/2021 17:43

Someone trying to encourage negative cognitive biases and depressive thinking?

Groups that are inherently unhealthy

ArcheryAnnie · 27/03/2021 18:30

Shame she never bothered to fucking listen or respond to the people she hurt with her transphobia.

Where's your evidence for this, Hibari? I don't need a lot of evidence - just one bit will do.

ArcheryAnnie · 27/03/2021 18:32

Imagine being told that your favourite author hated you. When it wasn't even true. It's like the people spreading these baseless accusations don't even care about the children hurt by them.

This, exactly. And all the enthusiastic readers who are enthusiastic because of Harry Potter, told that they are by extension Bad People who are hurting trans people. It's wicked.

I too would like an answer to this question.

Zinco · 27/03/2021 19:10

I would like an answer as to where the video is with Carl Benjamin as a "guest" of King Critical.

I suspect that Hibari is just making stuff up, and didn't actually watch such a video, because it doesn't exist.

(Even if such a video exists, it's still misleading to fail to mention that King Critical is actually a critic of Carl Benjamin.)

Ereshkigalangcleg · 27/03/2021 19:29

I have just been through his timeline, and I can't see such a video either, it looks like he is doing a critical response to things Benjamin has said. But maybe he has deleted it? Can you link to the one you mentioned Hibari so we can make up our own minds about it?

Ereshkigalangcleg · 27/03/2021 19:30

So it looks like you are trying to smear someone through association, when they aren't even a fan of Carl Benjamin!

No! Say it ain't so, Hibari!

Zinco · 27/03/2021 20:00

There is a recent King Critical video called:

"Reacting to Destiny on ContraPoints on JK Rowling (Featuring Sargon)"

But in no way is that having Sargon as a "guest". Rather, Sargon is included in someone else's video and King Critical responds a little bit to what he said.

If another video exists, let's see a link please...

The Coddling of the American Mind is an interesting read:

A timely investigation into the campus assault on free speech and what it means for students, education, and our democracy

The generation now coming of age has been taught three Great Untruths: their feelings are always right; they should avoid pain and discomfort; and they should look for faults in others and not themselves

These three Great Untruths are part of a larger philosophy that sees young people as fragile creatures who must be protected and supervised by adults. But despite the good intentions of the adults who impart them, the Great Untruths are harming kids by teaching them the opposite of ancient wisdom and the opposite of modern psychological findings on grit, growth, and antifragility. The result is rising rates of depression and anxiety, along with endless stories of college campuses torn apart by moralistic divisions and mutual recriminations^

The culture of “safety” and its intolerance of opposing viewpoints has left many young people anxious and unprepared for adult life, with devastating consequences for them, for their parents, for the companies that will soon hire them, and for a democracy that is already pushed to the brink of violence over its growing political divisions. Lukianoff and Haidt offer a comprehensive set of reforms that will strengthen young people and institutions, allowing us all to reap the benefits of diversity, including viewpoint diversity

Justhadathought · 27/03/2021 20:19

I would say there are rather more unthinking virtue signallers who don't apply much critical thinking and just react according to how they think they should

What has happened to critical thinking skills? As a teacher my job was to enable pupils to evaluate different views and perspectives. Key skills.

To evaluate something you have to engage with it. But it seems that far too often these days the default position is 'cancel' and 'not engage'. As a result ideologies held to like shibboleths tend to collapse into a mass of unexamined contradictions.
