Obviously there's been a lot of people asking this question recently, including a slow moving thread on dad's net atm. But without any real answers it usually just seems to get sidetracked into "how can men help women feel safer?". And whilst I appreciate men taking care whilst walking behind us to not make us feel followed or afraid, and committing to not actually assaulting us themselves, it doesn't really solve the big problems.

I thought this article was an interesting summary of the different ways of thinking about male violence and the relative successes of the different rehabilitation programs for violent male criminals.

The stat on 90% of boys viewing porn online by age 13 scared the shit out of me. I have a 4 year old son and a 2 year old daughter and honestly I just feel sick almost constantly.

Anyway, one thing the article mentions is that the most commonly used rehab programme, the "duluth model", which is founded in feminist theory of patriarchal male behaviour, is less effective than other programmes which are based around building a therapeutic community. I thought it might be interesting to learn a bit more about the different models, the theory behind them and their effectiveness.

Ban booze?

What do the stats look like in areas where alcohol is not allowed due to religion?

You never answered the question about 'delinquent' teens and knife crime.

NiceGerbil · 22/03/2021 03:05

So what's your solution?

You have mentioned castration, delinquents, Pitbulls etc.

Banning alcohol in the UK is pretty unlikely.

So what are your thoughts on reducing VAWG?

Or at least reducing it.

So stuff like

Trying to change attitudes in society
The authorities (police CPS etc) taking stuff seriously
Tackling 'low level' crimes
Etc etc

Is a no from you?

If it's essentially impossible without sci fi non solutions, how do you explain the difference in levels of VAWG around the world?

NiceGerbil · 22/03/2021 03:19

What are your views on how the met handled warboys, Reid?

What happened with the sapphire unit?

I mean all this stuff about evolution, castration and Pitbulls is all well and good but you're not really answering the questions directly.

It was you who brought up alcohol.

And not drinking alcohol does not make a person a religious extremist.

You haven't answered the questions again.

NiceGerbil · 22/03/2021 03:29

'Men are unquestionably more violent but there is always a catalyst.'

Crikey.

I'm talking about the institutional failings of my local police force to catch serial sex offenders when they had every chance to.

I'm talking about what happened with the sapphire unit.

Those were about rape. Not wolf whistling.

'Trying to change attitudes in society
The authorities (police CPS etc) taking stuff seriously
Tackling 'low level' crimes
Etc etc'

Low level to the authorities. Hence the ' '.

Flashing.
Being wanked at.
Being followed with sexually explicit threats.

That sort of thing.

'wolf whistles, mansplaining, manspreading'

Come on.

Of that whole post that's the (imagined) bit you respond to?

Let's keep it simple.

Warboys, Reid.

What are your thoughts.

NiceGerbil · 22/03/2021 03:42

Warboys. Reid.

What are your thoughts on the met handling?

NiceGerbil · 22/03/2021 03:42

You have no idea who I am btw.

This is about women being murdered and homicide. When you start talking about flashing etc it just defocuses and dilutes the whole discussion. This shifting of the goal posts along with demanding answers to a stream of distracting questions is typical FWR strategy.

How are flashers related to spousal murder?

Don’t know about spousal murder, but the cop who has been charged with Sarah Everard’s murder has also been involved, allegedly, in a flashing incident. We know that behaviours escalate. We need to be able to talk about patters of behaviour.

When people complain about being bombarded with questions it’s usually because they themselves have written a lot of posts making digs at people on here or at feminist concerns. And the “you’re all white and middle class” accusation is tedious because many of us aren’t, and it’s an obvious tactic to try to shut people up.

I'm finding the pitbull analogy pretty amusing TBH.
Because what hasn't happened with pitbulls is "not all pitbulls"
Instead pitbulls are banned, all pitbull-like dogs have to be registered and have conditions being allowed out such as wearing a muzzle and being on lead. Any hint of violence and they are put down.
Most people think those restrictions are fine even though not all pitbulls bite.
Its almost the opposite to male violence where nothing can be done, because not all men Grin

QuentinWinters · 22/03/2021 07:20

Also research suggests men who murder their partners do follow a pattern where "low level" Envy crime is the start

How do you stop violent people being violent? How do you end crime? You can't hold back the tide.
