Lui - says there is no evidence to support the people saying there is a risk of harm in self ID

Berthatydfil · 17/03/2021 16:20

And Jane wants us to emulate Ireland .. right ho

highame · 17/03/2021 16:20

SO we need to look at the Welsh (health) and the Irish governments for guidance.

jeaux90 · 17/03/2021 16:21

"No evidence that self ID is an issue" Hmm

Panicmode1 · 17/03/2021 16:21

Are any women being asked for their views at all? Or are all of the speakers trans lobby groups?

This is awful.....

highame · 17/03/2021 16:21

EA safety is case by case basis. This is wrong. It is the whole estate that can limit access or stop access. She has that completely wrong

OvaHere · 17/03/2021 16:21

@JustTurtlesAllTheWayDown

Nancy Kelley: "A GRC is not how you get allocated into a particular part of the prison estate", except that this was confirmed that this automatically happens when you've got a GRC in the initial arguments for the MoJ review. She really has no idea, does she? She doesn't even seem to know what Stonewall has put forward on sex exemptions. It's really bad.
Are the people listening to her clued up enough themselves to know she is talking bollocks? That's the concern here, that they will assume Nancy knows what she's talking about.
Berthatydfil · 17/03/2021 16:22

Are women ever put in men’s prisons ? Cat says so

ChattyLion · 17/03/2021 16:23

Apparently women who pose a risk to women in the female prison estate would be housed in the male estate? Eh?

OvaHere · 17/03/2021 16:23

@Panicmode1

Are any women being asked for their views at all? Or are all of the speakers trans lobby groups?

This is awful.....

There's been 2 or 3 previous panels where women's groups and women's advocates have spoken. It just happens that this afternoon is the turn of the gender organisations.
Leafstamp · 17/03/2021 16:23

Nancy: "a GRC is not how you get into a single sex space".

Lui: "no evidence to support that self ID harms women"

Jane: "recommend that the panel look at the Irish 4 page GRC-equivalent on self-declaration... I don't see why it has to be any more than that"

Cat: "EA2010 addresses safety on a case by case basis. She is saying if a women prisoner is assessed as being a danger to other women then she is put in the male estate" Is this true??!

highame · 17/03/2021 16:23

Sport has nothing to do with the EA10

Berthatydfil · 17/03/2021 16:23

Cat says it doesn’t matter that girls get thrown off a sports team. What about that girl’s feelings ????

Berthatydfil · 17/03/2021 16:25

Cat - what about Emily bridges ???

Panicmode1 · 17/03/2021 16:25

@OvaHere Thanks - I did watch one of the earlier ones and they were (seemingly) so dismissive of women's concerns.

(and just listening and it's not true there are no elite trans athletes - Laurel Hubbard, Veronica Ivy....?!)

AnneListersHat · 17/03/2021 16:25

Who's the MP in a green dress that is obviously TWAW?

ChattyLion · 17/03/2021 16:25

Good that an MP is asking about fairness at any level of sport not just elite sport.

highame · 17/03/2021 16:26

It was completely wrong that a case by case situation was used. This is a misinterpretation and in actual fact exclusion is used on the whole estate and not just individuals. This whole misinterpretation has been catastrophic

teawamutu · 17/03/2021 16:27

Time for some letters?

rogdmum · 17/03/2021 16:28

I’ve only listened to a bit of it, but my impression was that Mermaids seem to be rowing back a tiny bit. Lui was emphasising that very few minors go down the medicalised route and most of their needs were around social support (and I am at complete odds with their affirmation only position here), but this was quite different to previous sessions where Susie Green has pushed for fast track access for young people to the medicalised path.

Plus she was actually acknowledging detransitioners. Not in a comprehensive way, but even a year or so ago they wouldn’t have had a mention.

They do seem to be shifting their position ever so slightly. Publicly at least. Not convinced about in private and am still at complete odds with their position.

Nancy was awful- the whole schools support bit viewed completely through the lens of trans and no acknowledgement to the complexity of the issue and the validity of watchful waiting as an acceptable approach.

highame · 17/03/2021 16:28

Stonewall definition is umbrella and therefore numbers much greaster than anticipated. Anyone who feels.............oh had to backtrack on that

Berthatydfil · 17/03/2021 16:30

Cat was being disingenuous saying she is weaker than her former self. But surely what needs to be comparable is an other woman the same age surely ?

highame · 17/03/2021 16:30

Crossdresser having protected characteristic, can that be right. Staying Stonewall not the government therefore context. Narrower definition for government but in community this might be different. Welcome and invited.

I love this questioner, who is she? anyone know? I haven't seen her before.

Changemusthappen · 17/03/2021 16:33

Talking about XX and XY is infantile evidently. I really need to turn this off.

Now we're on intersex!

Berthatydfil · 17/03/2021 16:33

So sex “might” be a biological factor - and here comes intersex
