I chose to raise my children somewhere inclusive where others have similar values etc. I work with some lovely people in a very leftie job. Mostly I love it but....occasionally it's wearing! I would love to find a local women's/feminist group but all are TWAW.
Having a grumble!

That's why we are here!

Dispiritingday · 16/03/2021 21:13

I am ashamed to say I have long stopped reading because I found it so frustrating. It doesn't go away though does it.

I don't understand, you wanted to raise your children somewhere inclusive without being inclusive yourself?

Dispiritingday · 16/03/2021 21:30

Inclusive wasn't the best word, its what my tired brain came up with. There are many better words.

But you would still make your point and be part of the experience I am familiar with.

OP posts:
Daca · 16/03/2021 21:30

How can you be ‘inclusive’ if everyone around you is just like you?

Dispiritingday · 16/03/2021 21:36

Well I have just said that inclusive wasn't the right word.

BrilliantBetty · 16/03/2021 21:36

The super middle class leftie brigade are not always as woke (behind closed doors) as you'd think. It can just be how they wish to be perceived.
I bet there would be others who would think the same as you on this.

Daca · 16/03/2021 21:43

Sorry, OP, I take your point and I do know where you’re coming from.

Why don’t you connect with old friends or relatives from outside of woketown? It sucks to feel like the odd one out but it can be a good opportunity to make new connections.

notyourhandmaid · 16/03/2021 21:49

'Wokely selectively tolerant' is I think what you meant? There will be others who get it, don't worry. Bit harder to find at the moment though.

ARoombaOfOnesOwn · 16/03/2021 22:04

I agree with pp that there are probably quite a lot that agree with you but can’t say it publicly. That’s part of what is so exhausting I think, that wokeness is so performative.

WindyPudding · 16/03/2021 22:08

'Wokely selectively tolerant'

I guess OP wants to be inclusive and tolerant of other people, but not be expected to spout an ideology that doesn't have a basis in reality There's a difference. "Inclusive" doesn't actually mean "bow down to anyone who tries to force you to agree with their beliefs".

GNCQ · 16/03/2021 22:10

Not Brighton is it?

Dispiritingday · 16/03/2021 22:15

Thanks for comments. I'm rather wary of expressing myself badly by posting more!

Flowers for you @Dispiritingday . One can still be socialist without actually letting the wolf in, out of some nutty misplaced kindness.
Keep looking for friends, we all need them. They don't have to share our politics, although I would draw the line at TWAW too.
Keep banging on about women's prisons, that may get through the wall of denial?

lughnasadh · 17/03/2021 04:46

@Hibari.you always take the same line on threads like this.

Just to be clear, will you set out what you believe to be the biological process by which humans can change sex?

notyourhandmaid · 17/03/2021 04:57

The 'report' button is the second on the top right-hand margin, for anyone who needs this info.

JohnRokesmith · 17/03/2021 05:07

I kind of like Hibari posting, because Hibari provides some great examples of how people think when they mistakenly believe that they are liberal left-wingers, whilst actually holding views which more appropriately place them on the far right.

I absolutely get it. I share many of the same personal interests with ‘the woke’ but not many of their values.

And I’m honestly wondering if I should put my kids in a religious school even though we are atheists 😞

Someone's projecting.

Awwww come ON, Hibari. Just pause The Terror for a while and share your superior knowledge with us. Pleeeease??? And why is the question stupid?? I dont know the answer either.

lughnasadh · 17/03/2021 05:53

Hmm @Hibari, but do me the service , given my posting history, of assuming I'm acting in good faith.

I'm open, either way. The biological process?

I'm a chemist, for what it's worth .

Man, the TRAs not only use anime avatars but they also appropriate Japanese names too 🙄 it’s not like Japan is trans-friendly either. I don’t get it

I'm not too sure that they're that worried about appropriation..
