I chose to raise my children somewhere inclusive where others have similar values etc. I work with some lovely people in a very leftie job. Mostly I love it but....occasionally it's wearing! I would love to find a local women's/feminist group but all are TWAW.
Having a grumble!

I get you OP. I'm a lefty liberal (hell, I'm even vegan), but also operate on the basis of science and logic. I can't say that I believe people can change sex, and I am of the opinion that gender is a word to describe whether a person's personality matches the stereotypes attributed to their sex. I am also vehemently in favour of single sex spaces for both sexes. This appears to be a minority view amongst my friends Sad

I'm not too sure that they're that worried about appropriation

True 😂😂😂

I don’t think it would be minority opinion even among the left if our arguments were given equal time and weight. It’s very persuasive once you hear it from unbiased sources.

@UsedUpUsername

Man, the TRAs not only use anime avatars but they also appropriate Japanese names too 🙄 it’s not like Japan is trans-friendly either. I don’t get it
I've had it for 34 years so I've been appropriating it for quite a while if that's what I'm doing.
GNCQ · 17/03/2021 07:47

Eh? You're saying you use your real name as your Mumsnet username? Confused

Dispiritingday · 17/03/2021 17:09

I'm not too sure that they're that worried about appropriation.. this made me smile.

Its an effort at times to keep my children from going down the gender stereotype route in their thinking . That's perhaps most disappointing and will probably be a bigger issue as they progress through secondary school.

What possibly be the aspects of Japanese popular culture that are so attractive?

Often the girls are portrayed as being very youthful and with large eyes.

I can only imagine that these people believe that these sort of images in some way embody "being a woman"

According to my weeb daughter,

There are multiple genres of manga/anime devoted to gender defying characters including otokono tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/OtokonokoGenre

including the 80's manga classic - Stop!! Hibari-kun!

Username really does check out 😂

I know they do ‘gender-bending’ in a very playful way, but I recall that trans people are required to have sex reassignment surgery (sterilised, in fact) before they can be recognised as the opposite sex and they can’t have underage children, which ... says a lot about their views on it ....

I hear you OP.

I'm in 'be kind' lentil-weaving, pronoun-brandishing north London and work in a woke sector.

I am so happy I have some terven friends IRL - and even my TWAW friends are fortunately rational and open to discussion - but I have yet to find a feminist group in my area.
