I am just such a big fan of those women who were labelled 'bitches' and this article brought back to me how much we seem to be losing. Were they a product of the 60's (ish you might find a better date). We know 'be kind' is bad for girls.

We had 'killing eve' but she was a psychopath, so considered out on the edges. The fact that the programme hit very high viewing figures tells us there's a thirst for non-conventional women, can the 'be kind' tribe be saved?

A great and cheering read!

''Wokeism is not a revolutionary but a reactionary movement, and nowhere is this more obvious than in the modern left’s attitude to women’s issues. Every other oppressed group is told to riot. Women: #BeKind.''

YouSetTheTone · 15/03/2021 14:04

Yes! I read it at the weekend and particularly enjoyed the closing para:

"So beware of the bitch; she's back and this time - with so little to lose, as it's all being given away on our behalf, from toilets to sports tracks - her bite will be much worse than her bark."

It's behind a paywall unfortunately but this is certainly resonating.

It's true. There is absolutely fuck all to lose now. We're still being murdered attacked, harassed and threatened. And this time we've got fuck all place to go to recover, or even talk about it.

There is nothing left to be kind about.

It always comes down to either be kind, or 'be kind, or else'.

Or else what exactly ????

persistentwoman · 15/03/2021 14:51

That's a very good article.
I've been enjoying watching some of the political misogynist enablers in chief, the Ed Daveys, Johnsons & Starmers, falling over themselves to speak about women, women's safety and women's feelings. While the whole lot of them have presided over the wholesale removal of women's rights to safety, privacy and safety from men in collaboration with toxic Stonewall and similar groups.
It'll be fascinating to watch how quickly the word woman will fall from their lips when the proponents of cervix havers, chest feeders and menstruators raise their heads and remind them of what they have signed up to with their Stonewall champion awards. I don't expect it will take long.

That asking for our permission or consent was only ever a polite fiction as it was always in the power of those with structural or societal power to unilaterally refuse to abide by these conventions? And to withhold adherence whenever it's convenient for individuals or a whole class?

Apparently, we don't even have the basic right to the name for a sex class. Other people always had the right to define and name us, it seems.

(I might be glum in response to filling in the current VAWG surveys as it's prompting a lot of uncomfortable self-reflection.)

Looks like she's going to be out of pocket.

Read this morning she's finally apologised to Ash Sarkar and will be paying a substantial settlement. It was of course one of those non-apology apologies but better than nothing I suppose. At last some good news following the harrowing past couple of weeks.

RedHoodGirl · 16/03/2021 13:59

I think Julie Burchill’s (now self-confessed) racism was disgusting. How it could ever have been framed as “free speech” is beyond me. It seems as though following Julie’s comments and actions that Ash Sarkar received a load of rape and death threats. I appreciate people might have different opinions, but how is this ever acceptable?

adrianmolesmole · 16/03/2021 14:16

She is awful, horrible person. She is no "feminist". for treating another woman so horribly, for no reason than pure racism and hate.

Bobbybobbins · 16/03/2021 14:52

I don't think she could be accused of being kind! Glad she has finally apologised for her online behaviour (to some degree)

Defmy · 16/03/2021 15:03

If this is something for women to aspire to we're clearly no better than anyone we call oppressive.

She's a bully. #noexcuse

CatChant · 16/03/2021 15:45

Not a fan.

There's a big difference between rejecting "Be Kind" (which boils down to STFU woman) and "Be a Bitch". I'm opting for neither, thanks.

Zevia · 16/03/2021 19:27

I dont see how you can speak about feminism with any authority after publicly subjecting someone to a campaign of misogynist abuse.

unwashedanddazed · 16/03/2021 19:31

She's always put her foot in it. It's part of why I love her so much!

MaryHappyWin · 16/03/2021 19:38

I do not like nasty people whether they be male or female. I do not think anyone should be proud to be a bully.

SpringCrocus · 16/03/2021 19:44

Very disappointed in Julie doing this. Not OK at all. Very wrong.

GCAcademic · 16/03/2021 19:48

I was agog when this happened. I couldn't believe what I was reading.

She's always put her foot in it.

Yes, she has. But this was way beyond putting your foot in it. And I say that as someone who normally really likes her, and finds Ash Sarkar as annoying as hell.

MyGhastIsFlabbered · 16/03/2021 20:19

I loathe Julie Burchill with a passion. Nasty, hateful bully. If this is what feminism is about then I'm out. Urgh

Defmy · 16/03/2021 20:44

So it's abuse and harassment if a man does it but just Julie putting her foot in it if she does it.

Right.

Most of the bullying and harassment I've ever experienced in life has been from women who call themselves feminists.
