Does anybody else think we NEED her to stay? She is the highest ranking FEMALE police officer.

I do, however, think she could at least meet with the vigil organisers and look into what went wrong.

Also she needs to make a commitment to making the streets safer for women.

Absolutely agree with you

Ifailed · 15/03/2021 06:59

Nothing went wrong with the vigil, it's what happened after when it was hijacked by people with a different agenda.

I also agree with you about her being an excellent role model.

MarieFromStTropez · 15/03/2021 07:03

@Ifailed Can you please expand on this? What people with what agenda?

The woman who should be leaving her post is the Home Secretary, Priti Patel.

MarieFromStTropez · 15/03/2021 07:31

Rather than forcing them to resign, we should make them stay and FIX things.

OP posts:
TheQueef · 15/03/2021 07:33

Said to my Ddad yesterday that she's fortunate to be a woman, it's only because we would get a male replacement that more aren't calling for her resignation.

It has come to this.

sashagabadon · 15/03/2021 07:36

I think she does a very hard job in very difficult circumstances. Policing is overseen by two people in London, the mayor Sadie Khan and the Home Secretary prity Patel who as you can imagine are polar opposites and demand different things of police officers all the time. It must feel like being in a gaslighting abusive relationship to Cressida sometimes pulled between two warring parents neither of whom stick to their decisions. Last week the met was being chastised for not being robust enough. She has a lot of respect from a lot of people so I think she should stay.

sashagabadon · 15/03/2021 07:39

It does also seem the vigil is was hijacked from footage I saw. A load of young men attacking the police! Most women had gone home. I wasn’t there but did consider going. It seemed very well policed until about 7pm when some of the more radical groups turned up.

WarriorN · 15/03/2021 07:40

I er on the side of her staying but I've not spent time learning about her nor know what happened, bar a lot of people invading what was to be a vigil.

It would actually feel like the ultimate slap in the face to women if she also befell the issues of male violence in this.

If she was at fault in some way then maybe, but I feel it's much wider than on just her shoulders.

FAQs · 15/03/2021 07:42

There were two groups of people there, those for Sarah, Libby and highlighting woman’s safety, the second from Reclaim the Streets, and others who turn up for anything for their social media likes, who want to defund the Police, some, not all, of those were trampling on the flowers, I believe 20 + officers were injured, again it took away from what was trying to be achieved, you could see the way it was going via Twitter, shame as myself and my daughter wanted to attend, although Covid also of course meant it was an illegal gathering.

onyourway · 15/03/2021 07:50

I actually think she should have been at the vigil, properly in charge, acting as a real commander in chief. And if she had any doubts about any of the so called commanders at the scene, she should have taken control and pulled rank.

highame · 15/03/2021 07:50

I have a feeling that on day to day operations, the London Mayor should have been consulting with the Met but as far as I know, he just didn't.

I wondered why the News coverage suddenly stopped interviewing sisters uncut or maybe I just stopped watching. Must have sussed out pretty quickly when they were TWAW immediately they started talking.

comfyoldcardi · 15/03/2021 07:54

It comes back to manipulative misogyny. As usual. An opportunity was spotted to hijack a peaceful vigil, make women look bad, make the police look bad. Add in the ignorance of the press and awful reporting and there you have it.

MarieFromStTropez · 15/03/2021 07:58

Do Sisters Uncut subscribe to TWAW?

OP posts:
EwwSprouts · 15/03/2021 07:58

A retired police chief has just been on the news and said if she had met the organisers in advance it would have made it official & then they would have equally been judged if the organisers were not fined £10k each. This board is supportive of the vigil (as am I) but many are not due to the COVID regs/law.

UnaLength · 15/03/2021 08:00

The spin around Cressida Dick has never been positive unfortunately. I do hope she stays, she certainly seems defiant but if Sadiq Khan gets his claws in, it will be game over I feel.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 15/03/2021 08:02

Do Sisters Uncut subscribe to TWAW?

Zealously.

MarieFromStTropez · 15/03/2021 08:04

@Ereshkigalangcleg What are you trying to say?

OP posts:
Alternista · 15/03/2021 08:04

I want her to stay, and not just because she’s a woman (though that’s part of it).

I want her to stay because I think she’s experienced and has overall done a decent job in office, and because I hate the culture that sacks people the moment anything goes wrong.

THAT SAID, I think last week was handled dreadfully from start to finish, and I would like her to work with all parties and report back to the public what has been learned and what will change.

MarieFromStTropez · 15/03/2021 08:05

@Ereshkigalangcleg I misread your post.

Why does EVERYTHING have to be about TW?

OP posts:
Cwenthryth · 15/03/2021 08:11

Probably because, if they bother to mention Sarah Everard at all, they keep saying/posting things which would prejudice the case against the man charged with her killing. And the next day staged another not socially distanced protest about “women murdered by the state” including in this a transgender paedophile who died by suicide. So showing their full agenda pretty quickly. I actually think the more sunlight that SU get the better so everyone can see how plainly batshit they are (IMO) to be honest, but I understand that the media has to avoid contempt of court.

I think Cressida Dick should stay. I’d appreciate a lot more open explanation of policing strategies and methods though because the public are reacting to dramatic images without adequate explanation.

TheLaughingGenome · 15/03/2021 08:15

Towns and cities other than London and Brighton managed peaceful vigils.

The large gathering at Clapham Common was entirely predictable. I could see it coming, just looking briefly at social media and the publicity around Catherine Cambridge's visit.

The Police intelligence unit(s) must have seen it coming.

So the question remains: why these particular tactics? They were wrong for the event.

I am not keen on witch-hunting Cressida Dick and Priti Patel, because I do worry about chucking even more misogyny around. Sadiq Khan and Boris Johnson have responsibilities too. But, Cressida Dick does have to answer for those policing tactics.

burritofan · 15/03/2021 08:17

She is the highest ranking FEMALE police officer.
You can be the highest-ranking female anything and still not be good for women. (Cf. Thatcher, May.) Simply being female is crap, “girl boss” feminism that does a disservice to women.

GCAcademic · 15/03/2021 08:19

Sisters Uncut are vile. They actively support violence against women.

MarieFromStTropez · 15/03/2021 08:26

@burritofan You do have a point there. Although as a police officer she has to be politically neutral and I would hope has enough intelligence and insight to do the right thing.
