Bristol gender critical / radfem groups?

Yeval · 14/03/2021 20:48

I'm based in Bristol and wondering if anyone knows of any gender critical or radfem groups in the area? I think there was a Bristol branch of ReSisters, but their Twitter profile no longer exists. I just need to meet up with some like-minded women...

OP posts:
BrizzleGirl · 16/03/2021 19:57

I'm in Glos, have tried contacting ReSister but to no avail.

severnboring · 16/03/2021 20:24

Once we can actually go to real life meetings again, go to a Women Talk Back event. (Been talking about the abusive crap they have to put up with on another thread). You don't have to be a student to go to the public events, and there is always pub afterwards for networking. I went to several and both speakers and pub connections were top quality!

(Now I'm sobbing at the thought of being able to go to a meeting and the pub...)

Latinista · 16/03/2021 22:33

I’m in Exeter too ... would relish opportunities to meet up (post LD?!) or at least virtually connect with similar GC women. Should we be starting a SW women’s group with branches eg Ex, Bris, Taunton, Plym etc??

RadandMad · 16/03/2021 23:57

I'd be interested in an Exeter one @Latinista

Came across this group today. Shared by Filia on Twitter. They seem very new but have begun challenging gender ideology in Bristol institutions. Looks interesting.

I'm in Bristol too and would love to meet up once we can. I did see a couple of "a womans' place is..." signs at last Sunday's protest/march, but didn't manage to get close enough to strike up conversation, to establish GC stances or not (one sign said "womxn" so I was a bit wary).

Looks like a brilliant group. I see they describe themselves as a group of academics, former teachers, parents, grandparents and feminists. Perfect.

Their letter to BCC is well worth a read and I may take the liberty of sharing to one or two resource threads on this board.

Thanks for highlighting this @unwashedanddazed

I've posted in the general Local Bristol chat, and am so impressed, I think it warrants a thread of it's own:

Thanks again @unwashedanddazed

Greetings to GC feminists who have posted in this thread and are searching for GC feminists in Bristol. I wonder whether you have discovered Bristol Education Research Group-
bergbristol.wordpress.com/blog/
We are writing to mayoral candidates at the moment about their policies in Bristol schools- you can read our letters to them and our correspondence with Bristol City Council on our blog. You will also find links there to useful resources and articles- and an invitation to get in touch with us if you are a parent and would like to hear more about our work.

Leafstamp · 24/04/2021 18:14

I know this is an oldish thread, but if anyone (perhaps moreso those with children or who work in education etc) is interested, this group are right on the ball - take a look at their letters and blogs etc:

I’m in Bristol, interested xx

Hi gender critical sisters,
If you are a gender critical Mum in Bristol and concerned about how trans ideology is being introduced in your child's school- check out the questions we will be asking of Bristol mayoral candidates at the livestreamed event tonight -
www.bristol.gov.uk/voting-elections/local-elections-thursday-6-may-2021
Our questions are posted on our blog:
bergbristol.wordpress.com/2021/04/19/letter-to-mayoral-candidates/
The event will be live-streamed on Youtube and you can can use the chat to post questions. You can also send questions to the editor (Martin Booth) in our personal capacities or from LRA or other groups-
hopefully see you there- we could use some support!

Margaret71 · 26/04/2021 16:31

HI again- have just realised the Bristol Mayoral hustings are on Thursday 29 April this week, not Monday as in my previous post today- hoping to see some of you there-

Leafstamp · 26/04/2021 17:20

Thanks Margaret. I can’t make it on thurs but good luck!

Can I also just apologise for repeating myself re the BERG site above, too keen to publicise!

Bergwoman · 19/05/2021 17:15

Hi @ Leafstamp
The Mayoral candidate zoom was a waste of time- questions sent in advance not answered or acknowledged and in the zoom, questions selected with no explanation of criteria. Also an annoying chat thread promoting prostitution as 'sex work'-
Apparently the Festival of Ideas zoom was better managed
Please advise on how best to promote the Berg blog- we post most weeks - latest is a letter to Cotham school- we would love to hear more from parents. I am not a frequent visitor and its hard to figure out where best to post- and on which threads!

I’m just going to mention that we know hostile TRAs / MRAs have been monitoring the site for some time now, so take care when planning meet-ups or sharing personal information.

Olderbadger1 · 19/05/2021 21:04

www.bristolsu.org.uk/groups/women-talk-back
This is (was) the group set up by Raquel but I'm not sure if it is still operating... open to non-students too.

And I can vouch for BERG - lovely people doing some great feministing.

A bit of solidarity goes a long way.

AdultHumanFemale77777 · 19/05/2021 21:44

Nearby and happy to travel

Writersblock2 · 19/05/2021 22:36

Just mentioning our group — Let a Woman Speak. We are down in Cornwall.

Olderbadger1 · 19/05/2021 22:45

Merched Cymru are just over the bridge in Wales - though issues do differ somewhat given the devolved government.

TheTamingOfTheresa · 24/05/2021 15:46

Pleased to hear Bristol’s Watershed was reopening ; went online to book cinema trip for my birthday only discover they now boast “ gender neutral toilets”. I’ll give that one a miss. Ffs

Margaret71 · 01/06/2021 13:14

Hi all
BERG has written again to Cotham School asking how the school actively challenges gender identity ideology. Also do the three named external organisations that come into school (all of whom appear to subscribe to gender identity ideology) bring that ideology into school with them?
We would love to hear from anyone else who has any connection with the school- teachers, governors, children attending.
In solidarity with you all!

FerretFumbler · 01/06/2021 20:14

I’m a little further South too, by Burnham.

If there enough of us, maybe we could start our own group. It’s very lonely and tiring.
When I try to explain people look at me like I’m off my rocker going on about a weird paranoid conspiracy. Can totally see their point as it just flies in the face of common sense and what the ‘normal’ person on the street thinks could ever happen. Except it is.

Margaret71 · 08/06/2021 20:21

Hello again gender critical rad fems

You may want to check out our latest post-

'Letter to Bristol City Mayor, Cabinet and Scrutiny Chairs – leave Stonewall!'

bergbristol.wordpress.com/

Bristol Education Research Group is concerned with the safeguarding and well being of children in Bristol schools.

Many of our concerns stem from the ideology that Stonewall and organisations influenced by Stonewall promote. Stonewall promotes gender identity ideology (the belief that ‘gender identity’ should replace biological sex in policy making) and campaigns to remove single sex provision and protection thus putting women and children at risk.

During the past year we have written to Bristol City Council officers, to Councillors Keen and Godwin and to the Mayor.

On our latest post you can see the questions we have put to them.

Do get in touch if you would like to share your concerns and experiences in local schools.
