The one that doesn’t include women is it? ANy women out there still voting for any party in Scotland?

Moirarose2021 · 11/03/2021 20:19

They couldn't have picked a worse week to pass a bill that does not include women. Hopefully more people will add sit up and notice but I am sadly not convinced.

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 11/03/2021 20:19

The SNP are really going to regret this. It's going to be another one of their flagship laws that is going to make them look stupid and probably end up being repealed. See also the OBFA and all the Named Person stuff.

ArabellaScott · 11/03/2021 20:20

That's the one. Although a protected characteristic in the Equality Act, and despite impassioned speeches from several female MSPs arguing to amend the Bill to include sex, MSPs declined to do so.

Cross dressers are explicitly named as included.

There are no words strong enough to express the contempt I have for those that voted for this shitshow of a bill.

EdgedInBlue · 11/03/2021 20:23

Under his Aye.

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 11/03/2021 20:23

Is who voted for what available yet?

nauticant · 11/03/2021 20:26

Well, looking on the bright side, for years we've been told that crossdressers don't fall under the trans umbrella and finally we'll be able to point them to an Act of Parliament specifying this in law.

I'm being flippant but it might be useful in the future to be able to say that Scottish law defines trans people as including those who have [fill in your own word(s)].

Doyoumind · 11/03/2021 20:27

I'm in England but this is so depressing, and the timing is shameful. How to reinforce how little women are valued.

EachDubh · 11/03/2021 20:27

I actually think we need a revolution here. What abtoxic party the SNP have become 😩

terryleather · 11/03/2021 20:28

Under his Aye.

The votes are here, but I'm a bit confused what all the divisions mean

I don't think the final bill vote is up yet though the divisions (I assume for amendments?) are useful.

ASmallMovie · 11/03/2021 20:32

It's awful. A very sad day to be a woman in Scotland.

I write to MSPs and donate what I can to ForWomenScotland and MurrayBlackburnMackenzie, and of course there's not a chance in hell I'll vote for SNP in May after this. But it'd be great to do something else. Like, if a bunch of women stand in Holyrood wearing 'Woman, Adult Human Female' tops or with a banner or something, would it potentially be reported as a hate crime. it would be great to get it tested in court pronto, to highlight its incompetence.
Just wondered if anyone had any better suggestions for getting it a bit of a higher profile.

ArabellaScott · 11/03/2021 20:34

I think people have already suggested it needs taken to court. Of course, this means taxpayers shelling out yet again for a Judicial review to fix the govts terrible law that has been already paid for by our money!

I am so saddened and angered by this. I don't know who I will vote for come May.

UnderHisAye · 11/03/2021 20:38

@EdgedInBlue

Under his Aye.
You called? Grin

Also, fuck everyone who voted for this excremental piece of legislation. SNP have lost my vote and Labour ruled themselves out too.

Joisanofthedales · 11/03/2021 20:39

My contempt for the SNP and the Green party, north and south knows no bounds. Both seem to hate natal born women. I'm glad I no longer live in the Highlands and I never thought I would say that.

acatcalledjohn · 11/03/2021 20:42

I'm so utterly disappointed that this has been passed.

We really are irrelevant aren't we. How dare we be born with female reproductive organs.

I'm not sure whether I'm overwhelmingly angry or sad.

MissBarbary · 11/03/2021 20:42

Well i think you can safely assume the No votes were the majority, if not the whole of the Conservative bloc.
Ifyourefeelingsinister · 11/03/2021 20:44

I will be checking which of MSPs voted for this and will be writing to them to tell them they've lost my vote. I think they have underestimated how angry women are about this - the only thing is, it needs more publicity.

ArabellaScott · 11/03/2021 20:45

I got a response from my Tory MSP - good on him, within about half an hour of my panicky last minute email - saying he could not and would not vote for the Bill.

He'll get my vote.

OP posts:
SunsetBeetch · 11/03/2021 20:46

Oh dear Sad

2Rebecca · 11/03/2021 20:46

The Tory MSPs opposed it. Murdo Fraser is tweeting about that. Really disappointed in Labour
