Just wondering how the SNP plans to campaign for independence without stirring up hatred against the English - something that definitely happened last time.

Babdoc · 11/03/2021 23:58

I am delighted with this ill conceived, misogynist and ridiculous hate crime bill. It should finally deter anyone with a functioning brain cell from voting for the vile SNP.
Roll on May election day. I’m sharpening my pencil...

MissBarbary · 11/03/2021 23:58

All hope is on queenie and her advisers then

If by "queenie" you mean Her Majesty, no. Royal Assent is a formality. Royal Assent should actually be 4 weeks from when the Bill is passed- I was confusing that with the Scottish Government's curious practice of bringing legislation in to force in piece meal fashion.

There's swathes of a flagship Act passed in 2016 which aren't in force yet.

Andante57 · 12/03/2021 00:01

So, if I say something that would not be allowed on MN rules on FB then, am I tonight, committing a hate crime?

If these rules now also apply within people’s homes then you would be committing a hate crime if you said it in your kitchen.

MsSavouryPancake · 12/03/2021 00:50

Utterly despicable . I miss my homeland but this is awful . How f*cking dare they ?

Whatsnewpussyhat · 12/03/2021 01:06

Does anyone know what the potential harms that might have arisen from including sex would be?

Well, by adding sex they would have to define it. That would upset all the male feelings and make them feel 'exclued'

Couldn't possibly protect women from the malicious reports that will now happen because of this ridiculous bill could they...

Whatsnewpussyhat · 12/03/2021 01:07

'excluded'

glasgow357 · 12/03/2021 01:14

Can someone give me an idiots guide to what this means please?

LunaHeather · 12/03/2021 01:26

I'm not sure up to date with this

Last I heard, comments made at a private home were going to be removed but I don't know if they went ahead with that?

quixote9 · 12/03/2021 03:09

"Cross dressers are explicitly included."

While 51% of humanity isn't even visible.

The bloody weirdest thing is how so few people even think that's at all odd.
The votes are here, but I'm a bit confused what all the divisions mean

www.theyworkforyou.com/divisions/
It's very confusing as it doesn't give the wordings but as the SNP/Green were all NO on the one I looked at and virtually everyone else was AYE, it must have been a Labour/Tory amendment I was looking at.

dotoallasyouwouldbedoneby · 12/03/2021 03:34

@ThePankhurstConnection

Got to say I found a lot of sense in Murdo Fraser's contribution.
Reassured by Murdo's speech there. I did get supportive replies from Conservative MSPs but wasn't sure how much they agreed with me about the attack on women's sex based rights. He specifically alludes to it in that speech so even happier about voting Conservative in May now. I sound like a bot. I really am not lol.
ChattyLion · 12/03/2021 06:30

Solidarity with adult human females in Scotland. Flowers
You made all the right points but the misogyny is so strong.
I hope this can be legally required to be remade to address the blatant sexism.
I’m scared this sexism will spread to similar laws in England and Wales too www.lawcom.gov.uk/project/hate-crime/

Capital76 · 12/03/2021 06:42

As a scottish woman living in england i am horrified and worried for my aunts cousins and sisters still there

I PRAY the SNP dont win in May- balance is needed and we need to scream this from the rooftops... SNP are trying to irradicate and ignore women!

FlyPassed · 12/03/2021 07:21

I don't think women should be added to the bill, the entire thing needs to be torn up, burned and buried so it can be dug up and catapulted directly into the sun.

You can't legislate people's feelings.

As for potential harms of adding women to the bill, the victim hierarchy of critical theory will be based on a trans/not binary and we'll be firmly at the bottom. It will be another category of "hate" to use against us.

Faffertea · 12/03/2021 07:23

What —excuse— reason has been given by those opposing including sex in this bill? Or misogyny?
Obviously I know the actual reason but I’m wondering how the SNP have justified it. Or have they just ignored those who spoke up on it?

Igmum · 12/03/2021 07:33

Appalling. I have no words

Well they haven't exactly given transgender a defined concrete definition 🙄

Apparently the ScotGovs pet charities told them that if sex was included men would use it against women Hmm
FindTheTruth · 12/03/2021 09:12

“one of the most pernicious and dangerous pieces of legislation ever produced by any government in modern times in any part of the United Kingdom”.

Presumably it would be "used against women" if a specific woman's behaviour was sufficiently egregious to merit it. Is there a problem with that concept? It might not happen very often but women's behaviour should not be excluded.

This. It’s the most ill conceived and poorly executed piece of legislation. I’m not sure the SNP ever had a plot to start with, but they’ve definitely lost it now.

OvaHere · 12/03/2021 10:20

Totally in agreement with this. I think it's very telling they won't add women but that doesn't change the fact it's dreadful legislation.

334bu · 12/03/2021 10:27

Does anyone have a link to voting record?
