US "left"'s mask increasingly slipping

Saw this via Ovarit, and it's quite jaw-dropping.

This is some reasonably-high profile American YouTuber/streamer called Vaush - I don't think he's particularly mainstream in what passes for the "left" there, but he is certainly part of it.

Here he is reacting to some video featuring Selina Soule - Connecticut student athlete who's fighting a legal battle for female-only sports.

And - oh my god. You do associate this sort of thing with America, but 20-30 years ago it would have been some right-wing shock jock type like Rush Limbaugh.

Now some on the "left" sound... exactly like that.

I offer this as maybe a companion piece to the other thread "Does anyone ever have a "are we the baddies" moment?"

He's obviously an incel. He gave the game away with "Stacey". Incels are part of the horrifying subculture that repeatedly produces male mass shooters in the US because they hate women for not providing them with sex.

It's pure undiluted hatred of women in its most obvious form.

Unlike a pp, I don't think they actually do believe TWAW. They say so, but their actions betray them. If they did think it, their spewed bile towards women would be directed at them too. No, I think they're merely profoundly happy to have presented in their brothers a new weapon with which to punish women more, that's all.

BitterAndOnlySlightlyTwisted · 28/02/2021 19:14

That Vausch character really isn’t representative of any group, unless you count brain-damaged shut-ins, resentful of other people who have actual lives.

Interesting side-note: the lovely Selina is now in higher education, studying at the same institution as everyone’s least favourite cycling cheat is a professor

NecessaryScene1 · 28/02/2021 19:53

Yes. But it's a sign of which parts of society are unhealthy, where these people gravitate to.If these people are gravitating to the "left" it's clear evidence of a problem in their policies, attitudes and/or ability to self-police.

I no longer get the impression that the right is the natural home for the really hateful. It's still the place for a certain strain of unhinged conspiracy theorist, but if you want to be really nasty to people and feel big for doing so, the left is the place. Okay, you might have to choose your targets carefully, but if you do, you can go nuts.

Ugh that was disgusting and extremely disturbing. Couldn't finish. I'm shocked YT haven't removed it considering they remove and demonetise videos for a hell of a lot less. How's this guy still got a channel- not that I think it should be removed, but very Hmm at the apparent inconsistency of YT mods when some of my favourite fact-based content providers are threatened with removal on a frequent basis.

Doomsdayiscoming · 28/02/2021 20:24

One person doesn’t define half the political spectrum.

He’s absolute incel who is just making dumb videos for clicks.

allmywhat · 28/02/2021 20:45

Over/under on him “coming out as trans”? I reckon three months. The only better cover for left-wing misogynistic hatred than being a TRA, is being a TRA who identifies as female.

Whatsnewpussyhat · 28/02/2021 20:47

They all believe in TWAW

They really don't though do they.
Saying it just gives them permission to spout their vile misogyny with impunity.

Just like Frankie Boyle and the like.
If they genuinely thought TWAW they would hate them too wouldn't they.

Cailleach1 · 28/02/2021 21:03

Yes, he kinda reminded me of Frankie Boyle. He/she/them/furry just loved calling women and girls Cnts, bitches, big f'kin tits etc. They think their 'be kind to the bro's and we'll treat every real woman like a hoe" crusade gives them cover. They dribble, they enjoy it so much.

I couldn't watch too much of it.

Cailleach1 · 28/02/2021 21:04

You said it better Whats.

NotTerfNorCis · 28/02/2021 21:05

Wow that's awful. I couldn't even watch more than twenty seconds. You rarely see that kind of pure, hateful misogyny even on the right.

justletmeadoreyou · 28/02/2021 21:08

Christ, what an awful man.

NecessaryScene1 · 20/03/2021 08:58

Bad form bump of my own thread, but I'm excusing it because someone else referred to it over in the "GC and the extreme right" one.

Saw a good little piece on Twitter by a psychologist the other day accurately describing what we're seeing here, and I tried to describe above about "people gravitating to the 'left'" to act like this.

One of most important things I've learned:

Severe personality problems find camouflage. No one thinks "I'm a sadist" or "I'm a malignant narcissist."

They find a belief system/social group that validates their most hateful, destructive impulses & construes them as virtues.

The most toxic and hateful people in the world are 100% convinced they fight for what is true and right.

They find a way to give free rein to their cruelty, to attack, to treat others cruelly and viciously. And they find allies to cheer them on who also believe they are on the side of all that is true and good.

For colleagues looking for more theoretical explanation, the psychological processes are splitting, projection & projective identification. Splitting means not recognizing one's own capacity for hate, cruelty, and destructiveness. The person is blind to the bad in themselves.

Instead, they project the badness onto some designated other. And this other person, via the defense of projection, is now seen as the repository of all that is bad and evil and necessary to destroy. That's the projection.

The person now feels fully justified in unleashing their viciousness and hate on the other person, who is now seen (via projection) as someone monstrous who must be destroyed at all cost. If the person who is projected on attempts to protect or defend themselves, this is now seen as further confirmation of how hateful and evil they are (this is what is called is "projective identification.") The end result is that the person can deny their own sadism, cruelty, and hate—while simultaneously acting it out without restraint. And feel themselves to be 100% on the side of truth and right as they do it.

Oh my goodness, that video is horrendous. I completely agree with you @NecessaryScene1. There is so much projection and splitting.

His video where he debates king critical is very telling. He and his followers use implying that king critical looks femenine as an insult and vauch even starts talking about how he has superior levels of testosterone. In that video he talks about how he is a "feminist"
Here is Vaush saying he believes CSA films should not be illegal
Uh huh? Another one who needs his hard drive checking over, for sure. We see you.
Mumofgirlswholiketoplaywithmud · 20/03/2021 11:45
In which vaush describes himself as a feminist In which vaush enjoys swearing at JKRowling
Ereshkigalangcleg · 20/03/2021 11:46

Vaush is part of a group of left wing Youtubers called 'breadtube' and it is incredibly male dominated.

Ugh, can't stand Breadtube.

allmywhat · 20/03/2021 11:47

WAS a professor. Grin, in case anyone's missed out on this delightful shot of schadenfreude.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 20/03/2021 11:48

What a shame for Selina that she won't get the chance to meet.
Horrendous.

Is...is that anime art in the background?

Mumofgirlswholiketoplaywithmud · 20/03/2021 11:58

(I'm just wondering if he is also one of the faceless anime avatars who enjoys being horrendous on twitter too)

MissBarbary · 20/03/2021 12:02

@NecessaryScene1

I'm torn between wanting to view for my own evidence and not wanting to give him clicks.

Don't worry, it's a 5-minute edit posted by a feminist user. Still hard to stomach, but there's a friendly crowd in the comment section.

If it's the video I watched 2 of the crowd comments mentioned they actually were MRAs and even they thought he was vile !
BitterAndOnlySlightlyTwisted · 20/03/2021 12:03

I can think of one compelling reason why Rhys feels the need to get out of Dodge and return to Canada.

It appears that CoC got shot of him very cheaply

nauticant · 20/03/2021 12:12

If you want to know why these people make these videos, apart from indulging in hatred and getting supported for doing it, it's because of the money:

socialblade.com/youtube/channel/UC1E-JS8L0j1Ei70D9VEFrPQ

If you watch the way the money comes in you can see that once someone starts doing this, they need to keep the hatred flowing. That's their business model and it's youtube's too.

WanderinWomb · 20/03/2021 12:17

Delicious. I'm off to get the full update..

I think the professor has just resigned and their resignation has been accepted Grin
