Just saw this on BC news, confirmed that outcome of House of Lords debate is that the new bill will refer to ‘mothers’ and now ‘people’ or ‘persons’! Government agrees to call pregnant women mothers www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-56204865

Well done House of Lords!

Just read this, and I followed the debates, but I still can't believe that this was an issue in this day and age.

It's Mother's Day soon, will
That become people's day?!

That’s progress! Thanks for sharing.

I was on the CDC website looking up vaccine info and it’s language is “pregnant people and lactating people” - really infuriated me.

There is a huge thread about this from yesterday that you might be interested in.

the government "recognised the strength of feeling" on the use of language in the bill and would change its mind.

Good. I hope others recognise the strength of feeling on this. This change happened because the various lords and ladies actually listened to women and understood that the erosion of women's language matters.

Rather astonishing that a bill to give ministers the right to maternity leave was still needed in 2021, but its turned out to be important for all women.

Couldn't find it for a second and thought it had been deleted!!
