According to @SexMattersOrg on Twitter the Govt have backed down on the MOMA (Maternity) Bill and will now use the word 'mother' not 'person' in the legislation!

Women did this! We are winning!

Has it been mentioned when Lord WInston speaks and explains with a quick scientific summary. So wonderful to hear - him being staggered about chest feeding! Love listening to this - him talking about the different between breast feeding or grooming and cuddling a baby!

notoffee · 25/02/2021 19:37

This isnt about gender this is about the uterus - Winston or something like that. Woo Hoo.
Praising maternity, supporting mothers!

There is mention of him upthread yes, where he calmly explains human biology in a nutshell. Grin

Flowers brilliant news
Thank you for sharing

MenopausalCrone · 25/02/2021 19:42

Don't forget you've got a list of email addresses on the other MOMA thread and a thank you will go a long way! So many of them had our backs and mentioned time and again that they'd received many emails detailing women's distress about the erasure of women.

Time to show our appreciation?!

Alicethruthelookingglass · 25/02/2021 19:45

American here. I have joined to add my congratulations to British Women for their amazing efforts on the behalf of all women, and a hearty "Thank you" to a HoL that I never voted for (LOL) miles away for this well-timed broadside volley into the galleon of Orwellian double speak.

Cheers!

AbsintheFriends · 25/02/2021 19:53

I'm catching up on the debate on parliament TV now - thanks for the link Sunkisses (and for the thread!)

I'm also flicking through Mimmymum's twitter feed. Crikey, she's sounding very much like she needs to step away from the keyboard. She's certainly not doing the trans people she purports to support any favours AT ALL. What an embarrassment. Notably many of today's tweets have no likes.

StillWeRise · 25/02/2021 19:54

wonderful news, many thanks for the link
and of course many thanks to the HoL

NotMeekNotObedient · 25/02/2021 19:56

Woohoo!

Needmoresleep · 25/02/2021 19:58

It’s always two steps forward, one back.

A couple of stories after the report on the HOL victory, the Mail has the news that Mr and Mrs Potato Head are going gender neutral. A bit further down is the counter balancing news that the French are introducing legislation to restrict the use of gender neutral terms to protect their language. All on the day the Americans took a major step in the wrong direction.

There is a long way to go, but it seems that our Lords and Ladies have recognised that they need to stand up and be counted.

McDuffy · 25/02/2021 19:59

A PP said it was an exhilarating thread and that's exactly the word!
Thank you so much for flagging this, OP.
I trained in the public sector and we had the Nolan Principles drummed into us. Something has gone so wrong.

Orangeblossom1977 · 25/02/2021 19:59

Still doesn't seem to be any of this on the BBC at all - maybe tomorrow.

Wildswim · 25/02/2021 20:01

What the programme did have time for though was some dodgy survey from the US that 2% of Generation Z kids identify as trans.

Yes and Evan didn't probe why so many more girls are now identifying as trans. Why trans has become such a huge thing.

Shocking that he ran this niche survey story and ignored the HOL story. Such an agenda.

toconclude · 25/02/2021 20:02

@vivariumvivariumsvivaria

NO ONE HAS SAID THAT TRANSWOMEN ARE A THREAT TO US!

It's men, you muppet. It's the fucking men.

The whole of mumsnet seems determined that transwomen are the threat, though. Witness this thread. The level of glee and sheer hate is depressing.
MaudTheInvincible · 25/02/2021 20:02

That Jane Clare Jones thread is good and bracing.

malloo · 25/02/2021 20:08

Thank you for this, and for posting the links. I never thought I would be cheering on the HOL but here we are, it was magnificent. Common sense, at last, has prevailed on this issue at least.

vivariumvivariumsvivaria · 25/02/2021 20:09

toconclude if you see that then report it. Mumsnet does not tolerate transphobia or hate.

Women nearly lost our rights today, so, yes, many of us are feeling happy after being heard. Women tend to not be heard by systems, there is quite a lot of evidence showing that.

I do understand that having the difference between sex and gender highlighted can be challenging for someone who has a gender dysphoria. Doesn't make it is hateful, though.

Once again the BBC disappoint Angry

That’s a brilliant point.
Kettledodger · 25/02/2021 20:12

@toconclude I see no glee and hate toward Trans people I only see happiness in the fact women's rights have been maintained

BarbaraofKent · 25/02/2021 20:16

The level of glee and sheer hate is depressing.

Yeah, women's rights are so hateful. Hmm

Masks. Slipping. Everywhere.

persistentwoman · 25/02/2021 20:16

So wrong toconclude "The whole of mumsnet seems determined that transwomen are the threat, though. Witness this thread. The level of glee and sheer hate is depressing"

What you are seeing is a collective relief that finally some parliamentarians have the courage to stand up for women's sex based language and rights. This is nothing to do with trans people - women did did not ask for our language and identity to be erased in order to pander to trans activists demands. Most of us have watched in horror as this has spread via Stonewall and other powerful lobby groups with a determined attack on women's rights.
It should be possible to meet the needs of trans /non binary and all the other hundreds of genders without eradicating the language and rights of women. If only these groups would respect people other than themselves.

BuntingEllacott · 25/02/2021 20:17

The only hate here was a screen grab of a tweet from a woman who isn't even trans, claiming to support trans people by wishing death to come quickly to older people who spoke about women having rights.

Hate on this thread? Pull the fucking other one, it's got bells on.

MarshaBradyo · 25/02/2021 20:17

I got a really great email in response from Baroness Nicholson

So proud and moved today
