I've long admired Bel Mooney since I learnt of her connection to Sands.

Her article 'The Deletion of Womanhood' published by the Daily Mail on 17th Feb makes me want to stand and applaud.

It's both eloquent and brave.
Bravo

That's a very powerful article. Don't agree with all her choice of language but loved this:
I have known many women who, after having a first child, feel their lives transformed. Yes, they may become tired, ratty and disappointed, yet in embracing motherhood they step up to join a long line of miraculous women .
They inhabit a glorious bundle of timeless ideas, from the Great Goddess, the essential feminine, the mother ship, the motherland, the matriarchy, the grandmother, the mother. So it was — and so it will always be

MindtheMinotaur · 18/02/2021 00:25

Janet Street Porter, Bel Mooney and Sarah Vine have all written this week about this.

I suspect there's a lot more to come.

BitterAndOnlySlightlyTwisted · 18/02/2021 00:38

They are more numerous and they are getting braver.

“Courage calls to courage everywhere”

Lifeaintalwaysempty · 18/02/2021 00:40

Wow. Shehas actually gone further than some of the more recent articles on this, by not just speaking about the disappearing of ‘women’ in language but also getting into the broader issue of the no debate TWAW ideology itself. Hats off. Let’s hope the light continues to shine on this!

Great article.

PuffItsGone · 18/02/2021 00:56

Wonderful article! I do feel there may be an awakening of the wokesters soon

dotoallasyouwouldbedoneby · 18/02/2021 01:20

I remember Bel Mooney from years ago when she used to write for the Daily Mirror. That's a fantastic article and covers a lot of the ground very clearly.

Whatsnewpussyhat · 18/02/2021 01:41

Always get the men in the comments with the bullshit, "you women wanted equality" etc.
As well as the one who thinks transwomen can menstruate and breastfeed Hmm

MrsHuntGeneNotJeremyObviously · 18/02/2021 02:03

I thought this was very good and was pleased to see it.
If I had a midwife who refused to use the words 'woman' and 'mother' I'd request one who had a basic understanding of biology! Pg women don't need to be dealing with this - they have enough going on. Especially women who have lost a baby - their status as mother's is really important.

MoleSmokes · 18/02/2021 03:49

Fantastic article!

This is the ludicrous article in The Lancet that Belle refers to - medicine and health care is going to become seriously dangerous. Medical students in some universities in the UK are already being taught that "sex is a social construct" FFS! Angry

That was great!

This from Relate was hilarious
There was a form requiring people to choose a gender from the following: ‘Male, Female, NA, Androgyne, Androgynous, Bigender, Cis, Cisgender, Cis Female, Cis Male, Cis Man, Cis Woman, Cisgender Female, Cisgender Male, Cisgender Man, Cisgender Woman, Female to Male, FTM, Gender Fluid.’

Either someone truly has no idea..or they were trolling via the form! 😂

I've just read this. What a mangled mess of an article. There are some moments of lucidity within it, but not many, and the 'arguments' keep folding back on themselves to the point of absurdity.

BettyFilous · 18/02/2021 07:24

It’s a good article, but Bel still wants to play the cool lib fem and doesn’t want to upset men:

I call myself a feminist and yet I have nothing in common (except biology) with screaming harridans who loathe men.

Hmm Not cool Bel.

NoMoreMuchin · 18/02/2021 08:33

Yes that line really stung me BettyFilous, it was hearing that sort of dismissive bigotry of feminism that meant I didn't really engage for far too long

I enjoyed that for the most part. I think it's a shame Bel felt the need to have that dig, although I do understand why. I suspect she will soon discover that, when the shit hits the fan, it's the screaming harridans who have your back.

I didn't know Janet Street Porter had written about it too?

BaronessWrongCrowd · 18/02/2021 08:47

It's a good article. That line did get my back up. It's like she's almost there but is still labouring under the 'we have to be kind no matter what' mantra.

No Bel, you don't have to be kind all the time. Respect is a two way street and it's not given it's earned. It's okay to let go of our female socialisation and say no.

Also she seems to be under the impression that the majority of transwomen have had complete surgery and hormones when around 80% (I believe) haven't.

persistentwoman · 18/02/2021 09:37

All older woman of course - but this is all part of the tide turning. The overreach and the contempt for women are so evident that people are having the confidence to speak out in greater and greater numbers.

LaVitaPuoEsserePiuBella · 18/02/2021 09:38

Thanks for linking this, it's spot on and useful guide for those who don't "get" why so many women are angry.
Although I am dismayed to agree with something in the DM. ..

MadamBatty · 18/02/2021 09:41

I think I’ll change my name to screaming harridan, I quite fancy releasing my inner harridan. After a lifetime of being nice &!keeping my mouth shut I’m going to scream a bit.

Let’s reclaim the insults.

ArabellaScott · 18/02/2021 10:10

I call myself a feminist and yet I have nothing in common (except biology) with screaming harridans who loathe men.

Crikey, Bel. Grin

ArabellaScott · 18/02/2021 10:12

I mean, the fact that this silly trope is STILL doing the rounds is proof positive, should you need it, that feminism is still needed. This is self hatred, really. Misogyny snarling - don't speak up for your rights lest you become a 'screaming harridan'.

BuntingEllacott · 18/02/2021 10:18

Aye, lass. If the screaming harridans had been politely sitting with our knees together and our hands in our laps, you wouldn't even fucking know that this shit was going down.

I mean, whatever. I don't actually need to be thanked for doing the legwork, because I know what I'm doing is the right thing to do. But jaysus it'd be nice if the Janey-Come-Latelies would at least hold off the nasty barbs.
