this is exciting. we need some good news

FindTheTruth · 24/02/2021 18:13

Right. it's past the 6pm deadline. now what happens?

Leafstamp · 24/02/2021 18:59

Not really sure what happens next other than FPFW posted this this morning on Twitter:

“Final touches now being made to our evidence bundle ready to immediately lodge with the court if ONS do not act”

So I guess we wait and see what the court say?

TheHoneyBadger · 24/02/2021 19:40

I’m really surprised that ONS have said nothing on this. I’m wondering if they actually want the legal action, because people who work for the ONS must be the kind of people that actually do understand the importance of accurate data, they’ve just caved to pressure from queer-theory lobbyists as many have, but wouldn’t mind being “made” to correct the guidance but be able to blame someone else when the TRAs get angry with them

Quite possibly imo!

Wow imagine being able to just drop 1000 carrots into the bucket. Maybe it was JK.

TheHoneyBadger · 24/02/2021 19:40

Or maybe they had a whip round at ONS Grin

I don't know if anyone saw it but there was a post here a while back about a Conservative Women's group who were opposing GR reforms and trying to promote women's issues etc in their party.

I'm not a tory but signed up and they send emails and they really are doing some good work. That maternity pay document parliament drew up saying 'pregnant people' rather than women has been strongly opposed by them and they lobbied lots of house of lords members successfully for when it went before the HOL.

They emailed a list of the Lords/Ladies who had spoken up strongly against it and supported women in one way or another requesting that people tweet or email them thanking them for their support. Would it be worth posting on this board or will people assume I'm a raging tory because of it or knee jerk reject it for partisan reasons? Personally I'll take support from whatever party women can get it from.

Was it the Conservatives for Women account? They've been posting on here:

House of Lords reading of #MOMA Bill (22nd February 2021) www.mumsnet.com/Talk/womens_rights/4166393-House-of-Lords-reading-of-MOMA-Bill-22nd-February-2021?msgid=105000075#105000075

I'm one of the many women who were Labour members and were effectively told by Labour that they didn't want our membership money or votes if we questioned the anti-reality mantras they've taken to espousing. I would consider the SDP but they don't seem to field a candidate in my constituency, so Tory it will be. This is my top priority, no question.

greatpurplepolkadots · 24/02/2021 20:32

I've also been really impressed by them TheHoneyBadger.

I've never voted Tory before but as per Maud's post I will do so if the candidate they put up in my area is clear they supported us on this issue.

TheHoneyBadger · 24/02/2021 20:57

Yes that's them. I've been really impressed.

Labour have become so out of touch with women and the actual working class (rather than navel gazing bourgeois types) that they've definitely lost me for life.

I'm not sure if I could ever vote tory but on this issue, which is really important to me, they represent me better.

Glad they've already posted the House of Lords stuff on here.

NonnyMouse1337 · 24/02/2021 21:24

Any women here who usually vote Conservative, please join Conservatives for Women and find out ways to help build support in the party for protecting our rights. It would be great if women from Scotland joined as well to put pressure on the Scottish Conservatives given there's an election in May.

Thank you for the votes of confidence.

We are particularly keen to get some Scottish women on board; despite one of our founders having lived in Scotland for many years that does not help when it comes to the day to day knowledge of Scottish politics! The elections in Scotland are imminent and we could really use some help in putting pressure on the Scottish Conservative Party to put a commitment to women's rights into their manifesto.

You don't have to be a Conservative party member, or even a Conservative party voter, to join us; our aim is to have a sane, sensible, gender critical woman in very one of the 650 constituencies of the United Kingdom. That way we can run coordinated campaigns to contact all MPs (and we have a newly established peers network too, because as we have seen, with the MOMA bill, they are very valuable). We work with women in other political groups whenever we can (see the census campaign).

The Conservatives are in power, so we must deal with what is in front of us. Come and lend us a hand. Have a look at our website and see if you agree with us; we are single issue.
We are for women.

Meanwhile, we are completely behind FPFW and look forward to an update. As you were!

Mollyollydolly · 24/02/2021 22:43

Jane Clare Jones was on with Glinner tonight taking about ONS. Well worth a watch.

Good to know you don't need to be an existing party member and this approach makes a lot of sense. Mumsnet is fab but I like the idea of being part of a more holistic approach - I'm looking forward to getting involved.

I’m not sure if it was this thread that recommended Alan Johnson’s podcast, but I’ve enjoyed the one with Suzanne Moore. Alan gets it.

PurpleWh1teGreen · 25/02/2021 08:40

ConservativesForWomen Than you for your post, I will look in to it. We have an ambitious right winger as our MP here and I have been hugely disappointed with her responses to my letters to date.

However she is young in a constituency that won’t be changing colour anytime soon. So I would be interested in anything that might get through to her.

It’s good, isn’t it? I think it was a different thread I recommended it on (totally taking the credit Grin ) We need more like him in politics now.

No response from the ONS yet that I’m aware of...payday tomorrow so I’m off to the garden.

TheHoneyBadger · 25/02/2021 10:37

I wonder if it is harder to get through to young women who are still, consciously or not, benefiting from being seen as nice, helpful, funny (and possibly fuckable)? They may not consciously know why they don't want to rock the boat or be assertive about women's issues but they gain a lot the status quo in some ways.

Office for statistics regulation have today published guidance on collecting sex data: osr.statisticsauthority.gov.uk/publication/draft-guidance-collecting-and-reporting-data-about-sex-in-official-statistics/

Interesting timing....

They are asking for feedback:
[email protected]

greatpurplepolkadots · 25/02/2021 20:00

Isn't it a bit late for them to be asking for feedback?!

'As the regulator of official statistics, it is not for us to define what data about sex are collected across the statistics landscape.'

Hmm
