Thanks. Although it is hard to get an emergency order as was recently achieved that tends to be the start not the end of the process as later there is another hearing where both sides have a lot more time and chance to put much more evidence of their position. I hope the order can remain. I don't think it is really worth the ONS fighting on to the next hearing and they should just give in unless they want a clear legal finding that can be used in future about what goes into guidance etc.

Thanks. That's Thursday of next week. Three days before the census!

Sir Ian Diamond (head of ONS) was on Andrew Marr this morning and AM directly asked did ONS get this wrong with inviting self-ID of sex - ID resolutely did not answer the question and just said they will do as the judge has instructed.

Annoying Marr didn’t ask why the ONS position changed from when ID was on R4 Today saying that sex is biological sex only, to issuing guidance inviting self-ID via stealth. Missed opportunity but slightly heartened it was raised on the BBC at all.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 14/03/2021 12:37

He didn't even say "instructed", he said "requested" as if it was optional. It was a court order.

MaryGubbins · 14/03/2021 13:21

Ian Diamond didn’t even seem to get it. He said we are asking the same question “what sex are you.” But he doesn’t seem to comprehend what sex is.

Ian Diamond know very well or he wasn't paying attention to the briefings.

It's interesting that he knew how to misrepresent that the legal outcome is binding, not optional.

This is the clip of Ian Diamond being asked on this by AM and failing

Ian Diamond looked very shifty when he was asked about this. Presumably aware that a certain organisation would send in the heavies to punish him if he so much as admitted any scientific facts / reality live on TV Grin

Sophoclesthefox · 17/03/2021 07:48

That’s such great news!

EmpressWitchDoesntBurn · 17/03/2021 07:51

And awarded costs too! Fantastic!

Xenia · 17/03/2021 08:16

Very good news. They should keep at it with other similar areas as they arise.

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 17/03/2021 10:25

Fabulous. Best £20 I've spent in recent times.

EightiesRobot · 17/03/2021 12:13

Bravo Dr Nicola Williams - what a shero 👏👏👏

Ian Diamond (a clear misogynist) should lose his job

Mollyollydolly · 17/03/2021 12:24

What an excellent win. Congratulations to Nic. They knew as well, they knew it was indefensible.

FusionChefGeoff · 17/03/2021 12:27

I wish this was feted under a different headline

Trans people win the right to be counted in the census

Ultimately this is a big win for them too - I am still completely baffled as to why the previous approach would help them?!

MaudTheInvincible · 17/03/2021 14:54

Yes FusionChefGeoff it's baffling.

Xenia · 22/03/2021 21:27

I mentioned earlier CV19 legislation referring to a person giving birth known as M.
I am very pleased to see tonight that the new CV19 legislation (which is awfully restrictive if course as ever and I dislike) at least finds itself able to use the word "mother".

"Exception 8: births (12)Exception 8 is that the person concerned is attending an expectant mother giving birth (“M”) at M’s request."
