Yes, horses and stable doors do come to mind..... Especially as the deadline for feedback is 6th April (ie after the census!).

OnlyTeaForMe · 25/02/2021 20:20

The problem with that document asking for feedback is that most people won't have the time or inclination to draft out a lengthy email response.

Is there a way of engaging as many people as possible via the signing of a petition, or a collective response, which people could easily sign and which the ORS would have to acknowledge e.g. 50k people signed
And/or we need a self-generating, auto-fill email, but I have no skills in this area.

Signalbox · 25/02/2021 21:30

There's an update on the crowdfunding page...

"The deadline of 6pm on 23rd February for the ONS to withdraw their unlawful Guidance has passed. Our lawyers have been instructed to proceed. More updates to follow shortly"

Glad to see this thread. Contribution made.

@CormorantStrike

Office for statistics regulation have today published guidance on collecting sex data: osr.statisticsauthority.gov.uk/publication/draft-guidance-collecting-and-reporting-data-about-sex-in-official-statistics/

Interesting timing....

They are asking for feedback:
[email protected]

There's some interesting and positive things bin there if people have the energy left to respond eg

"A worked example: recording and reporting of sex in criminal justice statistics
Criminal justice statistics are important statistics which help the public understand the nature of incarceration in their country.

There are examples within official statistics relating to criminal justice across England and Wales and Scotland where breakdowns of the data are presented by sex, with data marked as ‘female’ and ‘male’. The data used to produce the statistics comes from the court system in each country. It is recorded by an operational officer and this means there can be variation in the way data about sex is captured across the system. This means it is not possible to know what definition of sex is being captured. This can, in turn, place limitations on how some criminal justice statistics can be interpreted and used.'

Bumping. After the outbreak of common sense in the House of Lords today, FPFW will be striking while the iron is red hot.

I think it was mentioned, Datun, wasn't it? I haven't watched the debate but have scrolled down the mega thread Grin Payday for me so I donated again.
Xanthangum · 26/02/2021 08:12

Fewer than 10,000 carrots left to go!

NecessaryScene1 · 26/02/2021 08:17

I think it was mentioned, Datun, wasn't it?

The ONS and the census were mentioned at least once. Not sure how many times.

McDuffy · 26/02/2021 08:48

Claire Fox has tweeted about it, my app is playing up and won't add photos but she said

@janeclarejones @AdamWagner1 It shifted it a little but in a way that will make it hard to shift back. I mentioned census in my speech on Monday and intend to return to it. Glad you are fighting back against smear. I wish I'd referred directly to it.

ChazsBrilliantAttitude · 26/02/2021 09:17

This is important from the OSR consultation

“Producers should be clear about definitions or terminology they use, and these should be harmonised to be consistent and coherent with related statistics and data where possible. The terms ‘sex’ and ’gender’ should not be used interchangeably in official statistics”

I am going to send a bullet point email highlighting some points that I think are key. There will be researchers / data scientists who can put in more technical responses.

e.g. For me, as a lawyer, any data collection that may be used to assess compliance with the Equality Act must be based on sex as that is the protected characteristic.

5 more days left to do some gardening. Star

Cwenthryth · 26/02/2021 16:33

I just bunged an extra ten carrots in the bucket as just got paid so it’s easier.

FindTheTruth · 26/02/2021 17:01

It's been a week never to forget hasn't it? last year the DfE guidance and Keira Bell weeks, I'll never to forget. Here on FWR, watching the court or parliament live. Will FPFW vs ONS will lead to another unforgettable week? hope so

EmpressWitchDoesntBurn · 26/02/2021 19:45

Bumping for more carrots!

Mrsmorton · 26/02/2021 19:49

Another 10 carrots which I'd rather not have pledged but here we are, facing an existential crisis because of our chromosomes.

NoSquirrels · 26/02/2021 22:49

89%. So close.

Accurate data in the census is just a no-brainer, isn’t it?

Datun · 26/02/2021 23:19

Payday for me so I donated again.

Yes, I think it was a referenced, albeit a bit obliquely.

FPFW are going to need every carrot they can crunch on.

fatblackcatspaw · 26/02/2021 23:56

If anyone has spare carrotts or even parsnips please forward over weekend...
