Feminism: Sex and gender discussions

Solidarity in Aldi today!

JaneyHenderson · 13/02/2021 18:08

This is my first thread in a very long time but I wanted to share the uplifting and fabulous experience I had today in Aldi😂

I reached 'peak' during the last lockdown and lurk regularly on here while trying to make sense of the madness.
DH is supportive to a degree but very nervous of me being vocal about my GC views as we are both teachers. I am a middle leader in a secondary school and he worries about me getting sackedConfused
So I can't discuss this much IRL.

Anyway, queing outside Aldi today and saw a woman a few people ahead of me with a 'Woman
Noun
adult human female' tote bag. I was thrilled and as soon as there was an opportunity (by the fruit and vegWink) I told her I liked her bag and that I knew what it meant.
She said I had made her day; I replied I she had made mine. Then she said 'Solidarity sister and see you on the next march'
We went on our separate ways but bloody hell it was brilliant. To vocalise it and be recognised. Felt a bit emotional and even now re-writing it, am a bit teary.

Just wanted to share. It was wonderful.

Are the shirts 100% cotton?

gardenbird48 · 14/02/2021 13:24

Thank you Want2 - I’ve just placed my order - woo hoo!! Just planning how I can do some covert stickering (I’m terrible at that sort of thing - fear of getting caught)

littlbrowndog · 14/02/2021 13:26

Oh thanks for book link. 👏👏

littlbrowndog · 14/02/2021 13:28

And for your daughter moodymarshal campaign in to get a plaque 💪💪💪👏

MozzarellaMonster · 14/02/2021 13:38

@Want2beme just ordered one, thank you Grin

Faffertea · 14/02/2021 14:02

I’m going to have to start taking my bag to Aldi when I do the food shop! Would love this to happen to me.

despairenting · 14/02/2021 14:04

Aw, that's sweet! I would've wanted to make friends immediately, hahaha. And when is the next march?!

I would get beaten up or at least shouted at here for carrying that around. Trans stickers everywhere - 'trans is beautiful', 'punch a terf', 'some women have penises'

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 14/02/2021 14:08

About that trans definition t-shirt, upthread a longish way: the online dictionary I use gives this.

trans woman or trans-wom·an, trans·wom·an
[ trans-woom-uhn, tranz‐ ]
noun
an adult who was assigned male at birth but whose gender identity is female

www.dictionary.com/browse/trans-woman?s=t

Too long to fit easily on a t-shirt, perhaps.

AyrshireAmbler49 · 14/02/2021 14:11

I don’t get it? 🤷‍♀️

Don't get what? Have you read any of the thread?

  • noun an adult who was assigned male at birth but whose gender identity is female*

They could simplify that to ' adult male with feminine gender identity'
That might fit.

picklemewalnuts · 14/02/2021 14:22

Kitchenfairy you look fabulous in that T-shirt! I don't fit in T-shirt's- it will have to be bags and pens for me!

MissLucyEyelesbarrow · 14/02/2021 14:32

Haven't rtft so it may have already been said but this is really quite unhelpful. Why not just explain in a few words. It doesn't take much

Google is your friend here. Maybe also Google 'sealion' while you're at it.

NoGoodPunsLeft · 14/02/2021 14:44

A few posters asked & my DH has delivered:

www.redbubble.com/shop/ap/70821721

He's another one who is outraged on the unfairness of males playing against women in sport, particularly as we have a sporty DD

GrimSisters · 14/02/2021 14:57

I got a hug from another woman at a gig at Leeds student union in 2019, because she recognised my 'Adult Human Female' hoody.
Very pleased to say that my DD (14) has nicked off with it now. Grin
I'm openly GC at work in the NHS and don't desperately need my job enough to worry about it. Appreciate am in a fortunate position though.

TinselAngel · 14/02/2021 15:00

@MiddlesexGirl

I'm fully aware of the issues involved and 100% on the GC side but .....

There is a video link up thread which explains it ⬆️

Haven't rtft so it may have already been said but this is really quite unhelpful. Why not just explain in a few words. It doesn't take much.
If someone wants to watch a video for a deeper understanding all well and good but as a first port of call... no .... I don't want to spend time/data attempting to access a video which may not have subtitles so I need to fetch my earphones etc etc.

If you're linking a video, please always explain as well.

Just a thought.

Nothing to stop you explaining it.
Want2beme · 14/02/2021 15:03

Kellie-Jay Keen's latest video re tote bag.

MoodyMarshall · 14/02/2021 15:03

@AyrshireAmbler49

I'm a teacher and the phrase 'I don't get it' is banned in my classrooms. Students are only allowed to ask questions which elicit a clearer understanding of the topic so, 'please explain what X means'.

Helenia · 14/02/2021 15:10

Yes I noticed that on Kellie's video. Trans rights activists been at it again as they don't like the truth and they are determined to silence women. Their actions bring even more publicity to this madness though.

Fact: Woman: Adult human female. An uncomfortable truth for them that it will never be possible to change.

SunsetBeetch · 14/02/2021 15:14

I find it hard to believe that VivienneMary doesn't know what GC stabds for when she's so often to be seen popping up to argue with GC posters if a thread appears on another Mumsnet board.

I have the "fuck kind" tshirt from Standing for Women, in honour of Sweary Godmother.

SmudgeButt · 14/02/2021 15:25

Well everyone loves a compliment. I try to always comment when I see things I like.

But it's even better when it's also showing solidarity for a political cause. So many would not have the nerve to make a stand and it's marvellous to have it acknowledged.

EdgeOfACoin · 14/02/2021 15:28

When I first started looking into this subject, I think I assumed that transgenderism had some sort of basis in science. I was suffering from cognitive dissonance in that I firmly believed that sex stereotypes were silly and socially constructed, yet I also believed that there was probably some sort of basis for a male brain ending up in a female body and vice versa.

When I started digging deeper, I realised that there is no science underpinning this ideology. From what I understand, male and female brains have certain characteristics. On average a male brain may display certain characteristics more often than female brains and vice versa. However, it's a bit like being told that you are about to meet a 6 foot tall person. Going by the law of averages, that 6 foot tall person is likely to be male - however, not all 6 foot people are male and not all 5 foot people are female. It is the same with brains.

Questions to consider:

What is a woman if not an adult human female (female being the sex that produces large gametes)?

What do all women and transwomen (ie mtf transitioners) have in common that they do not have in common with any men or transmen (ftm transitioners)?

Not one trans rights activist (TRA) who visits this board has ever been able to give a straight answer to either of these questions.

I encourage all newcomers to reflect on these questions, to read the threads and links posted, and to have a think about why 'woman = adult human female' is considered to be so offensive.

RagzReturnsRebooted · 14/02/2021 15:31

@Winesalot

She'll explain it to dogs, whistlers and serial name changers. She's a bloody marvel.

GrinGrinGrin

Particularly those who whistle for dogs with nothing to offer of substance. It is like they read about dog whistling, but don’t know how to handle what results. Just delivers the ‘bad dog’ lecture while knowing that they themselves are conflicted on some issues and can hear that whistle clearly themselves, they just developed earmuffs telling them they are ‘righteous’ to filter it out.

Someone is going to have to explain this one to me... Please. Dogs, whistlers?
Mrsmorton · 14/02/2021 15:43

There seem to be an awful lot of posters on this thread for which google isn't working today or, who would rather ask "what's GC" multiple times when it would be easier and quicker for them just to RTFT dog whistle
