Solidarity in Aldi today!

This is my first thread in a very long time but I wanted to share the uplifting and fabulous experience I had today in Aldi😂

I reached 'peak' during the last lockdown and lurk regularly on here while trying to make sense of the madness.
DH is supportive to a degree but very nervous of me being vocal about my GC views as we are both teachers. I am a middle leader in a secondary school and he worries about me getting sackedConfused
So I can't discuss this much IRL.

Anyway, queing outside Aldi today and saw a woman a few people ahead of me with a 'Woman
Noun
adult human female' tote bag. I was thrilled and as soon as there was an opportunity (by the fruit and vegWink) I told her I liked her bag and that I knew what it meant.
She said I had made her day; I replied I she had made mine. Then she said 'Solidarity sister and see you on the next march'
We went on our separate ways but bloody hell it was brilliant. To vocalise it and be recognised. Felt a bit emotional and even now re-writing it, am a bit teary.

Just wanted to share. It was wonderful.

Maybe KJ would do this as entertainment for us to get through the rest of lockdown. She could do a coded message at the end of each of her videos.

Impatiens · 14/02/2021 00:42

@Member869894

What is GC??
If you have a look at the post by Talkingtolangcleginthedark at 00.05 it explains it really well. Smile
TinselAngel · 14/02/2021 00:42

Also, I have the Leeds Spinners "Wrong Side of History, my Arse" tote bag, which is a thing of beauty.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 14/02/2021 00:46

Fabulous, Tinsel!

Friedmushroom · 14/02/2021 00:50

Ok, so after ALOT of head scratching and trying to work out what GC is Grin I think I’m with you. Definitely critical of gender stereotypes (long time gender neutral baby gift giver!) and do agree with the ethos of not being able to transition out of/into another sex’s privilege or lack there of.

BUT I’ve seen a lot of ‘there are only two sexes’ comments and, sorry if I’m wrong, but isn’t this an oversimplification of what can be a complex issue? How would you view intersex people? Someone with female genitalia but an XXY chromosome for instance? Not attacking but genuinely interested!

Ooh, I'd like that!

Not as good as a real numbers station though. :(

TinselAngel · 14/02/2021 00:57

@Mockolate

That's OK then my lovely. (I can do patronising too.) Handmaiden? So you did understand my post just a little bit then, nice try trying to make out it was just rambling, I'm a handmaiden and a love to boot just because my post was against other opinions.
WotchaTalkinBoutMockolate?
Winesalot · 14/02/2021 00:58

How would you view intersex people?

Those with differences in sex development can still reliably be classed as female or male with modern medicine.

Sex is not a spectrum. You can only have a male produced sperm and a female produced egg to create another human being. There are body differences around the production of small gametes (sperm) and large gametes (egg). People with DSDs still fit into this.

And those with these medical conditions ask not to have their bodies used as explainers for people with a separate condition of gender dysphoria. Some people with DSDs will also have gender dysphoria of course.

Winesalot · 14/02/2021 00:59

Really Tinsel? I did wonder.

Member869894 · 14/02/2021 00:59

Member869894 · 14/02/2021 01:02

Will someone please.tell me what is TWAW?

ErrolTheDragon · 14/02/2021 01:03

@Member869894

What is twaw???
A reference to the oft-repeated mantra 'Trans Women Are Women'. But people who say this can never actually come up with a definition of 'woman' which makes any sense.
OldCrone · 14/02/2021 01:04

TWAW = "Transwomen are women"

They're not, of course, because women are female and transwomen are male.

Member869894 · 14/02/2021 01:05

Aaah. Thanks both

Have a read of this thread. There are some great posts and resources linked to it that answer your questions. :)

It's a pretty complex issue and one that might take a little thinking and note-taking before you quite grasp it.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 14/02/2021 01:05

There are still only two sexes. Intersex conditions are disorders of sex development - variation within the male/female binary. There are two gametes. Males as a sex produce small, motile gametes and females large gametes.

XXY is Klinefelter syndrome, they are male with male genitalia.

Friedmushroom · 14/02/2021 01:10

Thanks @Winesalot and @Ereshkigalangcleg - I’ll do some further research. Currently half asleep on a doom scroll!

JackieWeaverIsTheAuthority · 14/02/2021 01:14

Ahhh love this Op. I have an AHF bag too but so far I’ve had no comments at all. (Not that I bought it for comments!)

Winesalot · 14/02/2021 01:31

Friedmushroom

There are theories being presented as facts about sex being a spectrum. There are some scientists who push it and some medical doctors too. If you come across papers and articles search google and add ‘debunked’ to the title and you might find equally interesting counter points.

Basically, no one who propose this spectrum can do so without using DSDs. They cannot name the other sex or sexes. They cannot define how the other sexes are used in reproduction. It is conflation of gender and sex.

And even then they miss the point that if a body still has working testes or ovaries and synthetic hormones are stopped , the body will resume making the original sex hormone.

I recommend reading widely and evaluate it all yourself.

Modern medicine use a range of things such as genitals, reproductive organs, hormones, chromosomes to decide on sex. It isn’t just chromosomes. It isn’t just genitals. And so on. This is true. It is not just one thing. But artificially changing one or two things still doesn’t change sex no matter how hard they argue.

and unless it is hormonally driven many health issues effect males differently to females so, the body ultimately knows every time.

Winesalot · 14/02/2021 01:38

Only people set on shaming women for discussing the impact of other groups rights uses terms like dog whistle. If you feel there is no conflict in rights, please discuss this rather than seeking to shame others. There are plenty here who are interested in learning more so open discussion is great.

Nothing? You see no conflicts at all? Tell us about how you feel about women’s sport mockolade. Should people who have had the benefit of male puberty be competing against women? Why don’t we start there?

Or are you just doing the pointy finger of shame. As usual.

RagzReturnsRebooted · 14/02/2021 01:42

@Ereshkigalangcleg

Can someone explain the Thought Criminal one and who the Emily is that the description references?

Emily was arrested in Leeds for speaking in the public square because the W Yorks police decided they didn't recognise the Standing for Women event as a legitimate protest, despite the organisers having done everything required of them to hold one under the law at that time.

In an iconic photo as she was being put into the police van you could see her T shirt from the back read "Thought Criminal". Hence "the Emily".

Thank you! I wanted that one but felt I should really know what it was referencing, outside of the obvious that our thoughts on gender somehow are radical and subversive! It wasn't that long ago that being feminist was seen as progressive and positive and now it feels like a dirty word.
TalkingtoLangClegintheDark · 14/02/2021 02:03

I actually couldn't watch all that, whoever the man is made my skin crawl. He was quite aggressive with his delivery and it made me really uncomfortable. Like he was talking down at women for daring to have and defend their own words. Maybe my current PMT is making me oversensitive, but 15 seconds of him talking and I switched it off.

RagzReturns give it another go and keep watching - he is indeed such an arse, but Posie wipes the floor with him and it’s glorious!

There’s a jaw-dropping, hilarious bit where he accuses women of “appropriating” the word woman... you couldn’t make it up! (something like that - it’s been a while since I watched it!) Anyway. She doesn’t stand for it, don’t worry!

Downunderduchess · 14/02/2021 02:08

Just came on to say I have learnt so much from reading these types of posts. Turns out I am GC also, I just never realised. I support facts & science. I’m not sure this issue has the same coverage in Australia as I don’t hear too much about it other than people who like to show how woke they are.
