No nonsense from Tracy Barlow on last night's Corrie

OP posts:
CranberriesChoccyAgain · 06/02/2021 16:16

And then asking David if he identified as one. 😆😆

Lordamighty · 06/02/2021 16:18

HaHa I saw that too, well said Tracy Barlow.

BaggoMcoys · 06/02/2021 16:18

What, Tracy Barlow actually said that on Corrie, or is this some kind of joke I'm not getting!?

BuffysBigSister · 06/02/2021 16:21

I loved that exchange between Mary & Tracy. First time I've smiled about this whole mess in ages.

JaimeLeeCurtains · 06/02/2021 16:25

Yes, Mary has gone temporarily woke and it is interesting seeing the Corrie writers show how this shit will really go down inside the Red Wall. (Spoiler: quite badly.)

JaimeLeeCurtains · 06/02/2021 16:26

I always knew that the FWR and Corrie threads would intersect eventually Grin

Yes, during a convo with Mary.

Then later, it was ladies night at t'Bistro. David walked in to talk business with Debbie, and Tracy told him to get out because it was ladies only. Mary said something along the lines of ''you have to be careful these days Tracy, David may be identifying as a woman.''

Is this for real? If so, it's brilliant. I've never been tempted to watch Corrie until this very second Grin

Moirarose2021 · 06/02/2021 17:04

It was great, love corrie as it doesn't seem forced unlike other soaps which decide on a storyline and then get a character to do it no matter how unsuited that character is to the new storyline. It just seemed like something Mary would say and Tracey would be having none of it

AnyOldPrion · 06/02/2021 17:04

I've never been tempted to watch Corrie until this very second

Neither have I, but that sounds brilliant!

But here’s the question.... how many complaints will it take to cancel Corrie?

Grin
Helmetbymidnight · 06/02/2021 17:06

agree with the Shock's!

JayAlfredPrufrock · 06/02/2021 17:08

It was brilliant. I cheered.

MingeofDeath · 06/02/2021 17:11

Remember, Corrie was way ahead of the trend with Haley Cropper. The trans issues were handled beautifully. I certainly can't remember any cries of transphobic bigotry. Don't watch anymore so don't know if episode OP was referring to has been complained about.

Babdoc · 06/02/2021 17:13

It would be lovely to think a GC scriptwriter was portraying normal real life northern working class opinions, but I fear this might just be setting the scene for some woke storyline later, where Tracy gets reviled as a bigot by the witch hunters.
I never watch soaps, they’re not my thing, but they do have a lot of influence. So I hope this one remains true to its roots!

CranberriesChoccyAgain · 06/02/2021 17:14

The only problem really is they used a despised character (murderer) to point out be what should be just an average woman's opinion. So any wokey fans will interpret the comment as coming from someone whose opinion doesn't represent them, is evil, should be ignored, etc.

Tracey also said she was more of a feminist because she slept with a woman. Confused Not sure how that logic works.

Fieldofyellowflowers · 06/02/2021 17:15

Oh yes, after Mary made that 'Anyone who identifies as a woman is invited'. What I took from that was that Mary didn't want to assume that Tracey didn't identify as a man.

Saucery · 06/02/2021 17:18

Corrie tends to reflect the times rather than push an agenda. So Hayley Cropper was the sort of transwoman most people knew about and largely accepted at the time they were a character in the soap.
Not sure where they might be going with Tracey’s attitude, however. If she’s a largely reviled character (I haven’t watched it for years) then it could be as said above - Bad Person Says Bad Things Because Not Woke.

Akire · 06/02/2021 17:19

I thought was great, like you say they have done Trans issue well in the past and every other person seems to be LGB at the moment so hardly lack of representation. As things stand socially most people when asked what if they identify as what gender will not have a clue. It may change in 20y and we all be old ladies who say out dated things as see that lass from number 27... oh Gran you can’t say lass that’s implying someone’s gender etc etc

Fieldofyellowflowers · 06/02/2021 17:19

So basically, Mary was just stressing that it was the girls' time was open to all women, including trans women. She wasn't trying to suggest that we should describe ourselves as 'identifying as women' instead of just women.

HollowTalk · 06/02/2021 17:19

It was a fantastic moment. Tracey Barlow's as hard as nails. They were also the first soap to have a TW role - Hayley (Julie Hesmondhalgh) did a great job of acting a post-op TW.

Idratherberude · 06/02/2021 17:21

@JaimeLeeCurtains me too Grin although Roy had a little pop last year.
Having to skip past this whole thread until I'm caught up on Corrie so will be back later.

JayAlfredPrufrock · 06/02/2021 17:30

Oh Tracy isn’t reviled. She’s fab. And channelling her grandma.

BuffysBigSister · 06/02/2021 17:33

Not sure where this storyline will go - if anywhere. But much as Tracy is seen as a " baddie", Mary is the street's resident eccentric so most people would politely roll their eyes at her pronouncements
