The audacity of this... requesting erasure of word "women".

If anyone is keeping a record of the many instances of individuals and organisations attempting to stop the use of the word "woman" to describe women/women's services, here's another example...

"Hi President Biden! Thank you so much for doing this. I'm wondering if you could adjust your wording from "women's healthcare" to "healthcare for people who get pregnant and bleed". I am a (trans) woman but dont need these services. Thank you for your work!"

Note this isn't an attack on that individual and I don't want to focus on them , but their statement which is far from an unusual phenomenon unfortunately, and organisations are even willfully doing it.

Hideously misogynistic. And proves what we already know, that this female erasure is really about the sensibilities of male people.

PointBreakOrBadBoys2 · 31/01/2021 17:20

Not all women get pregnant.

Every human being bleeds.

What the actual fuck is wrong with these people? They're so incredibly self-centred. like toddlers who haven't learned the world does not revolve around them yet.

iklboo · 31/01/2021 17:22

healthcare for people who get pregnant and bleed".

WTA&UF? Not all WOMEN get pregnant. Not all WOMEN bleed? These WOMEN still need healthcare services.

I thought 'trans women are women' anyway...so what's their problem with the word WOMEN?

Gizmo79 · 31/01/2021 17:26

‘Bleeds’ yuck. Just why use that term. Women menstruate. It is not bleeding as such.
Such an offensive term.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 31/01/2021 17:27

Women who don't have periods for medical reasons and can't get pregnant still can have other female health problems. Pure ignorance.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 31/01/2021 17:27

I think it's more about attention seeking.

TheChip · 31/01/2021 17:29

Its all getting fecking ridiculous now.

Amen/awoman

HeadPain · 31/01/2021 17:35

Was it bleeders or breeders, or both, that were used as a derogatory word s for women by some trans people on Tumblr and wherever else?

Btw this is the tweet that they were replying to:

"Today, I issued a Presidential Memorandum to protect and expand access to reproductive health care. I am fully committed to protecting women’s health here at home and around the world." mobile.twitter.com/POTUS/status/1354953657796722693

seems their tweet isn't visible now because their account is on private, I think because it got quite a reaction.

OP posts:
HeadPain · 31/01/2021 17:38

Because they're not included as they're a trans woman and don't need the services, in their view we can't use the word woman apparently

"Hi President Biden! Thank you so much for doing this. I'm wondering if you could adjust your wording from "women's healthcare" to "healthcare for people who get pregnant and bleed". I am a (trans) woman but dont need these services. Thank you for your work!"

Women who don't need the services because of health conditions or whatever have never complained about the use of the word woman.

DialSquare · 31/01/2021 17:42

As a menopausal woman who can no longer get pregnant or bleed, I strongly object to the erasure of the words woman/women.

MichelleofzeResistance · 31/01/2021 17:43

Note the increasing intolerance of female people in womanhood.

NotFabulousDarling · 31/01/2021 17:44

It's ridiculous how people clamouring to be accepted as women are simultaneously lobbying to remove women from language and existence. Which is it? Because I'm starting to feel that TWAW has a silent "only" at the beginning: (only) trans women are women.

AuntyPasta · 31/01/2021 17:44

It’s the natural progression of the current ideology. Everything we’ve fought for in terms of maternity benefits, access to contraception and abortion, subsidised childcare etc can no longer be described as ‘women’s rights’ because that’s triggering. The fact they are relevant to every ‘cis’ woman isn’t enough.

DialSquare · 31/01/2021 17:49

Meant to type "bleed" as a quote.

Just had to go and check definition of woman in dictionary - yes, so far it's still in there

Mustreadabook · 31/01/2021 18:05

I’m not sure I like the term ‘women’s healthcare’ though. Presumable what they actually mean is healthcare related to the female reproductive system. And dispute what they used to think in Victorian times, women do have other health needs too and we are not just a hysterical womb! It’s a euphemism, and could be more descriptive. So you go to ‘female reproductive system healthcare’ for your womb, ‘circulatory system healthcare’ for your heart, ‘male reproductive system’ healthcare for your testicles and prostate. And if you don’t have any of these things then ignore said department.

CaraDuneRedux · 31/01/2021 18:06

Never was Magdalen Burns' "Fuck off you wanker" more appropriate.

But as others have said, I think we're just looking at a raging narcissist on a desperate quest for supply.

thinkingaboutLangCleg · 31/01/2021 18:08

Step by step, they intend to take everything that belongs to women. They must be amazed at how easy it’s been so far. Every surrender to their demands encourages them to push for more.

MichelleofzeResistance · 31/01/2021 18:09

Three discussed bits of evidence on the board this weekend:

what the world would be like if no c* people existed for a week

the youtuber whose long and detailed rant about the resented privilege of c* (female) women taking resources away from more the deserving types of women includes a version of feminism that has no interest in female people

  • This: please can female health care not be included in womens healthcare.

The pattern's pretty obvious.

NotFabulousDarling · 31/01/2021 18:10

@Mustreadabook I would have thought women's health is more than that, though? Would it not include mammograms? Sexual health/contraception? Post-natal mental health (e.g. post-natal psychosis, post-natal OCD, post-natal depression)? Treating female victims of male sexual violence? If women's health was just the reproductive system, surely we already have a word for that: "gynaecology."

HeadPain · 31/01/2021 18:20

Biden didn't even write "women's healthcare" btw, he wrote "Today, I issued a Presidential Memorandum to protect and expand access to reproductive health care. I am fully committed to protecting women’s health here at home and around the world." mobile.twitter.com/POTUS/status/1354953657796722693

So this person was asking to change wording that wasn't actually there

""Hi President Biden! Thank you so much for doing this. I'm wondering if you could adjust your wording from "women's healthcare" to "healthcare for people who get pregnant and bleed". I am a (trans) woman but dont need these services. Thank you for your work!"

100% this.
