The audacity of this... requesting erasure of word "women".

If anyone is keeping a record of the many instances of individuals and organisations attempting to stop the use of the word "woman" to describe women/women's services, here's another example...

"Hi President Biden! Thank you so much for doing this. I'm wondering if you could adjust your wording from "women's healthcare" to "healthcare for people who get pregnant and bleed". I am a (trans) woman but dont need these services. Thank you for your work!"

Note this isn't an attack on that individual and I don't want to focus on them , but their statement which is far from an unusual phenomenon unfortunately, and organisations are even willfully doing it.

Its all sunshine, let people see what it's really about rather than "we just want to pee".

Clearly, it is appropriate that there exists a short, simple word that denotes half the human population - those of the type from which all human beings came forth at their birth. What word are we to have then? Why should "feminine" people have the word. In fact does that mean that I as a non-feminine woman should be called a man? Why shouldn't the female sex have the word? It so obviously makes sense.

Is it too much to hope that Biden gets to see this obnoxious tweet and that it makes him stop and think?

Ereshkigalangcleg · 31/01/2021 19:34

Yes, I wondered if this might possibly get through to him. Misguided optimism, I guess.

Some people really need to be told no...

Im guessing they haven’t heard that word much,

Exactly. It is also the age-old meaning of 'women.' And it is necessary because discrimination on the basis of sex or apparent sex is widespread in this world.

I was thinking of the female erasure in the trans theories recently and realised that we are all being erased if we define ourselves as women on the basis of the sex of our bodies. That is no longer allowed among the wokerati. Yet erasing the gender identities of others is a bannable crime in social media.

@Ereshkigalangcleg

Step by step, they intend to take everything that belongs to women. They must be amazed at how easy it’s been so far. Every surrender to their demands encourages them to push for more.

100% this.

I never thought this would be the case, but I must sadly agree. Each compromise so far has resulted in more demands.

@iklboo

healthcare for people who get pregnant and bleed".

WTA&UF? Not all WOMEN get pregnant. Not all WOMEN bleed? These WOMEN still need healthcare services.

I thought 'trans women are women' anyway...so what's their problem with the word WOMEN?

It seems like Biological women are only allowed to use the word woman when it involves things that transwomen can do too

Which would imply by logic that biologically female women are not included in this new and inclusive version of womanhood, and that this form of womanhood is not intersectional.

Ok, if the new ground is that female women are other and excluded and separate (from womanhood as defined under this sense), we're back to where we started aren't we? There are females and there are transwomen, they are different groups, with different needs, transwomen wish to have their own definitions and be separate from biological women because of biological difference - I can wholly respect that. Let's relabel as female all the things necessary to make the distinction such as female health care and female changing spaces and crack on with that model.

JustTurtlesAllTheWayDown · 01/02/2021 10:48

Ah yes, people who get pregnant and bleed. Now who's reducing people to their biological functions.
