Exciting one.

Tweeted by Maya.

twitter.com/MForstater/status/1351928600522596359

'A new org campaigning for clarity on sex in language, policy and law, in order to safeguard the human rights, health, safety and dignity of everybody. Launching soon.'

They say: 'Sex matters, in life and law. This is particularly important for protecting women's rights, and safeguarding children and vulnerable people. It shouldn't take courage to say so.'

Set up by Maya, Emma Hilton, Rebecca Bull and Naomi Cunningham (of legalfeminist).

:)

Oh and great news about this new group of course - nice one, Maya et al, and what a fantastic submission to the WESC.

TinselAngel · 20/01/2021 21:25

@WichBitchHarpyTerfThatsMe

That's you on the naughty step OhHolyJesus!
She's got some serious crawling to do.
MouseandCat · 20/01/2021 21:32

This list makes me so happy!!

TheShadowyFeminist · 20/01/2021 21:41

I'm curious about FPFW forming back in 2016. I had no idea. Can anyone from FPFW give us some preamble on this as it was well before most of us realised this stuff was happening. They started before the WESC trans enquiry committee hearings in the Dec '16 I think it was? I wonder what brought about the formation before we knew what was happening?

Voice0fReason · 20/01/2021 21:45

So many women want their voices heard.

FannyCann · 20/01/2021 22:14

What a great list. Thanks for the compilation. It's very heartwarming to see such a long list and think of all the many women that represents.

The WESC report was actually published in January 2016, not December. Which might make more sense of things for you!

@Voice0fReason

So many women want their voices heard.
Don’t we just!
OhHolyJesus · 20/01/2021 22:24

Sorry I was (quite rightly) on the naughty step. One min for every year meant I was there for quite a while....

@TinselAngel forgive my dreadful omission and I'm reminded of Children of Transitioners and Detransitioners Advocacy Network to add to the list too.

Thank you for corrections of dates on group launches too. I clearly can't be trusted to keep official historical records!

But before I get my coat...

If the GRA consultation hadn't been discussed here, I never would have known about it, so I remain grateful to all those who kept talking when no one else was and when it really wasn't something that could be discussed. It's still tough of course but with all these women gathering and speaking up loud I wonder why anyone ever thought we would shut up.

Such a terrible game plan.

TheFleegleHasLanded · 20/01/2021 22:51

Don’t forget the political women’s groups too. Can’t link to the websites from this device but there are a few now;
SNP women’s pledge
Labour Women’s Declaration and Lesbian Labour
Conservative Women’s Pledge and Conservatives for Women, all have websites.
WEP, Greens and Lib Dem’s all had petition/pledge groups but not all have websites.
And don’t forget their cross-party working group, Women Uniting.

Almost all submitted evidence to WESC, most not published yet

TheShadowyFeminist · 20/01/2021 23:07

Thanks, I've obviously got my dates all mixed up. Makes sense now!

MerchedCymru · 20/01/2021 23:24

[cough]
and Merched Cymru + LGB Allies Cymru making waves in Wales.
Plus Safe Schools Alliance, Filia, ObjectNow.
And rumour has it that Labour lesbians are about to appear in a puff of green smoke.

Fab innit!

Melroses · 20/01/2021 23:43

It is truly amazing to see all those groups listed together.

Then more come up.

And they keep on coming Grin

Who would have thought it just 2 or 3 years ago Star

TheShadowyFeminist · 20/01/2021 23:44

Not so 'niche' now is it? 😎

OvaHere · 20/01/2021 23:47

What a great thread. Of course I know about all these groups but seeing them laid out in one place is such a good reminder of how far we've come.

WichBitchHarpyTerfThatsMe · 21/01/2021 01:19

Have Man Friday been included? I had a quick scroll through this thread and didn't see them mentioned, I might have overlooked them.

PlantMam · 21/01/2021 01:39

Legal Feminist

legalfeminist.org.uk/about-us/

And a special mention for a non feminist group over on the healthcare professional side of this discussion, SEGM (international but with several familiar U.K. faces)

HubertHerbert · 21/01/2021 07:57

This is a fantastic thread.

Sadly I fell out with an old friend who felt that I was disproportionately concerned about all this. His primary argument was/is "if what you say is true then how come women don't appear to mind?".

Send him a link to this thread Smile
Odense · 21/01/2021 13:23

@HighHeelBoots. I did think WTF.

I read it as a Headline on some recent research:

‘New! Group sex matters‘

yourhairiswinterfire · 21/01/2021 13:29

Shall I ask MN to change the title around? Blush

OP posts:
HecatesCats · 21/01/2021 13:30

Haha! I read it as "group sex" initially too Grin

PurpleHoodie · 21/01/2021 14:19

Fantastic thread.

NecessaryScene1 · 21/01/2021 14:42

Fantastic thread.

Only let down by the new, boring title. Wink
