And would you vote for them, as a possible lesser evil?

I’m struggling

HubertHerbert · 17/01/2021 23:52

Lesser evil to what?

MissBarbary · 18/01/2021 01:29

I'd vote for any candidate who would defeat an SNP candidate.

WouldBeGood · 18/01/2021 08:24

Lesser evil to the current SG, and their repeated attacks on women.

BuffysBigSister · 18/01/2021 08:55

Monica Lennon is full on TWAW which is disappointing as I liked her. Her comments on the #sixwords #sexnotgender debate were the final straw for me. I won't vote for anyone who does not 100% commit to recognising that women are adult human females. I am not sure they are a lesser evil than current SG as they will follow the UK Labour party line which is strongly TWAW. So its a hard no for me.

ArabellaScott · 18/01/2021 09:02

I'd always have considered Labour/Scottish Labour. Sadly the candidates they've offered have been less then possible to vote for. And the Labour party overall are stampng on the rights of women to a ludicrous degree.

Goingtothebudgies · 18/01/2021 09:32

There doesn't seem to be anyone to vote for, assuming you don't want to show your support for the current shitshow government in Westminster?
Any ideas?

littlbrowndog · 18/01/2021 09:58

I dunno

The greens have Patrick

SNP a lot seem woke

Labour. Same

Homeless here

Babdoc · 18/01/2021 10:23

I’m in a SNP/Tory marginal, and the only possible vote to get rid of the abominable SNP is therefore Tory.
I’m v torn about a possible resurgence of Labour in Scotland.
On the one hand, I would be delighted if they took votes away from the SNP - hell, I’d hold my nose and deliver leaflets for them if I lived in an SNP stronghold! - but my big worry is they will simply split the Unionist vote and let the separatists gain control of the regional assembly at Holyrood. Which would lead to yet more demands for another referendum.
And God help women in the Woke Republic of Scotland if it ever got independence.

Goingtothebudgies · 18/01/2021 10:36

I think I'm heading towards not voting, which has never happened before.
I usually vote tactically, but I've never loathed every single party, the way I do currently.

Goingtothebudgies · 18/01/2021 10:38

I suppose that on the bright side if Scotland does end up getting independence (very big if) and if it joins the EU (big if) some of us may be able to retire to a more sensible country. It's also possible that the SNP will be booted out at some point.

vivariumvivariumsvivaria · 18/01/2021 10:39

Lib Dem/Tory constituency here.

Doubt very much the libdems will get back in.

I can't bring myself to vote Tory, but, there's no bloody way I'm voting Lib Dem again. They hate women, even the women MSPs hate women, it's bizarre.

WouldBeGood · 18/01/2021 11:20

I didn’t vote last year because of all this.

I’m worrying again and debating whether to vote Labour just because they’re not the SNP, but they’re all in Rainbow Quest and stuff.

I guess I started this thread to gauge what others thought on whether this is a line in the sand.

I am very scared about the Woke Republic of Scotland - great name!

littlbrowndog · 18/01/2021 11:21

It’s weird how Scottish politicians have stuck biology into a bin

Mass delusions

ArabellaScott · 18/01/2021 12:27

I dont know who to vote for. I very much want to vote.

But there is nobody I am willing to give my vote to.

Stuck.

Babdoc · 18/01/2021 12:28

WouldBeGood, please vote for someone - anyone - who is a unionist candidate, whether Labour, Tory or whoever has the best chance in your constituency.
Because otherwise the SNP get in by default.

XDownwiththissortofthingX · 18/01/2021 12:34

They can elect who they like as their next leader, it wont make the blindest bit of difference to me as I simply can't vote for a party that still believed in the Union, never mind one with such a ridiculous and unworkable position as SLab's 'Federalism'. High time they realised that there's no space in Scotland for a pro-Union left-leaning party, as the SNP have the moderate left ground completely sewn up. Get real, acknowledge reality, and adopt at least a neutral stance on the constitutional issue, and then they might stand some chance of relevance once Scotland is out of the UK.

They need to disengage from Westminster Labour to have any credibility, but doing so would leave them unable to fund election campaigns at any sort of level, so that's never going to happen. SLab is, for all intents and purposes, dead.

Babdoc · 18/01/2021 12:36

Goingtothebudgies, Scotland does not qualify for EU membership. Their deficit is way beyond the permitted maximum for new members, and they have to demonstrate at least three years fiscal stability on their own currency before being admitted to the EU and forced to accept the Euro.
They have no plans for a currency - they intend to use the pound sterling without UK permission, so would have no control over exchange rates or interest rates, and no way to fulfil entry criteria.
It just shows what a poorly thought out “plan” independence is. They’ve made no progress on major issues like currency since their laughable 2014 white paper of fantasy economics.

XDownwiththissortofthingX · 18/01/2021 12:38

Scotland does not have a deficit FFS

NonCisWoman · 18/01/2021 12:49

If you're a GC feminist, you have two options:

  1. Vote Tory
  1. Spoil your ballot
Sad
andyoldlabour · 18/01/2021 13:01

In 2018/19, if you include North Sea Revenue, there was a deficit of £7.9 billion. If you exclude NSR then the deficit was £9.4 billion.

www.gov.scot/news/government-expenditure-revenue-scotland-2018-19/

Total expenditure for the benefit of Scotland by the Scottish and UK governments came to £75.3 billion, which works out at £13,854 per person, which is £1,661 greater than the UK average.

littlbrowndog · 18/01/2021 13:04

Monica Lennon is standing

littlbrowndog · 18/01/2021 13:05

@BuffysBigSister

So there we are. She’s out
peak2021 · 18/01/2021 13:18

There may be independent candidates whom you can question and consider voting for. Perhaps it should be down to individual candidates.

BlackForestCake · 18/01/2021 18:36

If you are GC and pro-indy, you can vote for the ISP on the list.

TheShadowyFeminist · 18/01/2021 18:57

Anas Sarwar responded to emails on the Lamont Amendment with:

"I supported Johann Lamont’s amendment and was pleased that it was passed by Parliament and included in the Bill."

Others who supported were more fulsome in their support & didn't wait til after to confirm their position. That said, Monica Lennon didn't even respond & we all know what she said before the vote, which was comprehensively slapped down by Johann.

They're both claiming the equality/diversity badge & Sarwar is supporting the Hate Crime bill. Monica is supported by Heather Herbert who is a Labour list MSP & a TW.

I don't think either are great options tbh & I can't see either reviving Scottish Labour's fortunes. They definitely won't do anything to support women's rights. Monica struggles to use words like 'women' & 'girls' despite pushing the free period products bill.

So I'm 🤷🏻‍♀️ over this contest.
