Feeling a bit bruised

Gagh. I've been "discussing" transgenderism on Twitter and been called a stupid bitch etc multiple times, and I just wanted to come on here to lick my wounds a bit because I am feeling very shaken and upset right now.

Are you new to the internet?

IncludeWomenInTheSequel · 14/01/2021 16:10

Urgh it feels awful doesn't it? I had to stop after a while because SANITY. You can't change their minds, you just can't. May as well step away for a bit,

SnuggyBuggy · 14/01/2021 16:11

There doesn't seem to be much room for a rational, respectful debate does there?

rabbitwoman · 14/01/2021 16:13

Twitter is probably not the best place for a sensible conversation about this subject. Strangers are horrible to strangers - you can't talk to people like that in real life without consequences, but on twitter, why not just let rip and let out all your frustration on someone who is completely anonymous? who is going to hold you to account, what are the consequences going to be?

I also don't think that a lot of the most viscous of these online bullies even care about trans rights. The cause doesn't matter, its just an excuse to let out their vile side.

When it's real life friends you have known for decades, that's when it is really sad.....

Seriouslymole · 14/01/2021 16:15

Just step away from Twitter for a bit - it's like a bear pit sometimes. You know you're right, we know you're right, don't sweat it.

Nice to see BumbleBiscuit continuing the theme of 'any rude arsehole can get online' though.

rabbitwoman · 14/01/2021 16:17

On the other hand, engaging and listening does arm you with all the information you need to fight your corner. You know exactly what they are going to say and how to counter it (there is a thread on here at the moment with a poster parroting all the usual fake facts, and they are being handed their arsed because we have heard it all before!!)

That is one thing many of these people won't do. They won't listen or engage, so when presented with facts, statistics and rationality they got nothing - except male pattern rage.....

WorryBadger · 14/01/2021 16:19

Thanks, all. I try not to get into these discussions, but sometimes it feels like we're being silenced because if you DO speak up you get piled on, so it's safer to say nothing and let the bigots have their way.

And I was accused of arguing against scientific fact, because as any phule noes, there are "male brains" and "female brains".

@BumbleBiscuit

Are you new to the internet?
Lol, that made me smile. Yeah, you'd think so, wouldn't you. Why is it surprising that nasty people say nasty things online?
OP posts:
rabbitwoman · 14/01/2021 16:23

There are male brains and female brains!?

Fantastic!! No need for self ID!! Just get a brain scan at birth - problem solved....

(see! Enough practice and you can counter any of their nonsense.....)

rabbitwoman · 14/01/2021 16:29

..... Of course, the brain thing is nonsense. What does a female brain do that is different to a male brain except exist in a female body? Of course, anyone who works with children knows that girls develop speech skills earlier than boys - does this mean that if a girl's speech is delayed, she is a boy? Or if a boy develops speech earlier, then he is really a girl? Of course not!

And what if a transgender person had a brain scan and found that they had the 'right' sort of brain after all, what would that mean? That they weren't transgender? They would be compelled to change the way they dressed, maybe?

What if I had a brain scan and actually my brain was a man's brain? Would I no longer be allowed to wear jewellery or make up?

It is nonsense......

1forAll74 · 14/01/2021 16:36

Why bother with a lot of this social media rubbish, when you know for a fact that there are thousands of angry debating idiots on keyboards all over the world..

SnuggyBuggy · 14/01/2021 16:43

If something not true is said enough people start thinking it is true.

fatblackcatspaw · 14/01/2021 16:45

hugs if its affecting you take a break - I'm pretty combative on twitter.... same handle as here.. btw you don't convert the people you spar with you do however convert the silent ones who follow you...

Newwayofthinking · 14/01/2021 16:49

I am at the point of being so upset and angry, in equal measure

I don't know what to do to stop the erasure of the word woman and the TWAW, TMAM mantra (although the second causes no issues)

I feel like we (women) are just fighting a losing battle and should just give up.🤷‍♀️

Basically I feel your pain xx

Kit19 · 14/01/2021 16:50

Whenever you feel downhearted about twitter, look at the ratio when any company or organisation starts with the "people with cervixes" type nonsense. The push back now is huge. yes there will always be the anime avatar blue haired wokey blokey types shouting "TWAW you TERF suck my lady dick" but i think a lot of them are doing it to annoy because they know it teases

WhereYouLeftIt · 14/01/2021 16:57

Twitter is cage-fighting in a cesspit. Being called a stupid bitch generally means the person calling you that has no facts to counter whatever you posted, so resorts to insults.

And I agree with rabbitwoman - "I also don't think that a lot of the most viscous of these online bullies even care about trans rights. The cause doesn't matter, its just an excuse to let out their vile side."

Best way to approach Twitter is - why would I rate these strangers opinions of me, when I don't rate their opinions on ?

SnuggyBuggy · 14/01/2021 16:58

A lot of these TRAs are just men who hate women.

OhHolyJesus · 14/01/2021 17:10

I understand why you would dive in OP but increasingly social media is just a waste of time.

I'm not sure I'll stick to it but my New Years resolution is to take all the time and energy from arguing with people on the internet and out that into complaint letters or emailing my MP.

It feels like real life but it really isn't. None of them would call you a stupid bitch to your face because they are cowards and they only ever do it as they have nothing else to say. Rise above.

StrippedFridge · 14/01/2021 17:22

Twitter is ridiculous.

Ask yourself why you engaged with the activists on there. It wasn't to change their minds was it?

The worst zealots tweet. Remember everybody knows the difference between males and females, everybody knows humans cannot change sex. Anyone claiming that is messing with you and with logic. It's faith not facts. Arguing on twitter would be like trying to convert a priest to atheism via twitter. Just a waste of energy. Do something else instead.

thinkingaboutLangCleg · 14/01/2021 17:33

Here, WorryBadger, have this Brew. And some Cake. Relax and read something funny and light.

I admire decent people who engage on Twitter so that the facts are out there for people who don't know what's going on. I'll fill in all the consultations, surveys, calls for evidence etc that researchers or the government can come up with. But I don't go near Twitter because I couldn't stand it, it makes me feel sick. Thanks for doing it so I don't have to. Flowers

NotTerfNorCis · 14/01/2021 18:23

religious dogma

There's certainly cult-like aspects to it. The mystical thinking, the furious refusal to allow any debate, the sense of belonging it gives some troubled people. (I just finished reading Abigail Shrier's Irreversible Damage by the way and can recommend it. That also goes into the cult-like nature of genderism.)

terryleather · 14/01/2021 19:26

Twitter is like taking the butt plug out of Satan's arse and then wondering why you got covered in a red hot shower of shit....

Having said that, back in the mists of time, Twitter was one of the first places that alerted me to what was going on with the genderist agenda and exposed me to GC voices so in some ways it's invaluable...but then I only really lurked and learned and didn't engage much.

In the end I couldn't even deal with that - I felt like it was destroying my sanity and fuelling my fire at the same time. That was when I found FWR...Grin

(Witches) hats off to all those women, past and present, who do engage - it's a dirty job and I'm not up to doing it Flowers Gin Wine Cake
