I wasn't sure if posting the title of the video would break the board rules, so just linking to it here.

I was very tickled at her description of what an audience in Hoxton looks like. I won't spoil it for anyone who listens on to the very good part about hecklers.

vivariumvivariumsvivaria · 08/01/2021 10:48

We need a bit of light heartedness to manage the misery of it all.

She's brilliant. Hope her husband is ok.

MoltenLasagne · 08/01/2021 13:04

Genuinely laughed at that. Thanks for sharing.

Thehollyandtheirony · 08/01/2021 18:05

Brilliant! Thanks for sharing.

PaleBlueMoonlight · 08/01/2021 20:54

This is great. How did I not know this woman?!

Pudmyboy · 08/01/2021 22:33

Thank you! I love Smurf also, great response, will definitely use it if ever challenged by the other term...what a breath of fresh air!

Molesmokes · 09/01/2021 07:13

YouTube suggested this video to me and I had never heard of Mary Bourke before - brilliant, so funny!

Here comes the “but” . . .

but then I looked for another video to watch and the first one I found she absolutely slams Mumsnetters. Harsh! Stereotypes to the max Sad

I still think this one is great though 👍

newyearnewname123 · 09/01/2021 10:38

she absolutely slams Mumsnetters.

Maybe we should go to the comedy ombudsman. Grin

Helmetbymidnight · 09/01/2021 11:00

Oh I didn't agree with what she said about poor old Neil Ferguson either.

I like her for saying it though. She's funny, agree with the views or not.

ArabellaScott · 09/01/2021 11:08

Here she is on Mumsnet.

MNers are smug complacent bitches, apparently. [waving]

Also 'how to be a Karen'.

Lazy. Her newer sketch seemed much more sharply observed.

Keep looking closely, Mary.

BuntingEllacott · 09/01/2021 12:09

Well some of us are pretty smug and complacent, tbh. I'm not getting it on a t-shirt or anything, but, you know, not everyone who posts on MN is an hilarious raconteur like me...Grin

Helmetbymidnight · 09/01/2021 12:27

Grin I never tell anyone I post here.

They'd hate me for it.

I hate myself for it.

PotholeParadies · 09/01/2021 14:53

She had a sketch about mumsnet in 2010, definitely. In fact, she made a thread on mumsnet at the time to let us know and let us give our feedback, which I thought was very honest. Grin

Full disclosure, I haven't watched the youtube link above to check it's the same one yet, but I will when I've got peace and quiet.

If it's the same one, I think, like all of us, Mary Bourke has been radicalised by MN changed as a person over the last decade. She's definitely gained far more stage presence and become a more accomplished comedian since 2010, whatever you think of the material.

KettlePolly · 09/01/2021 14:55

About time we had a new (and funny) voice on the topic!

UppityPuppity · 09/01/2021 15:46

Not watched her Mumsnet sketch - but anyone who is as insightful as in the ‘I am not a tr*f’ material surely cannot now believe in the Karen meme - even if she did material in it before.

And yes - I did have to google what a Jerusalem artichoke looks like!

PotholeParadies · 09/01/2021 16:03

Watched the mumsnet one now. It's the one from 2010, and as I expect I said on the sketch thread at the time, the Rastamouse thread actually happened. So did the threads about abusing au pairs. It's not all mumsnet was, but that element was there, and probably still is; it's just the rest of us have scared them into silence. Grin

MrsFogi · 09/01/2021 16:13

That is the best thing I have seen for a long time! Bloody brilliant!! I will be in line for her future gigs and we so need to have a GC live comedy night once life gets back to some sort of normality.

ArabellaScott · 09/01/2021 17:03

The 'Karen' sketch is from June 2020.

MichelleofzeResistance · 09/01/2021 17:39

Ha. I listened to that video in the OP and thought she is a MNetter. There are the giveaways. Grin

Comedians don't necessarily have to believe in what they use for material. Izzard spent making material on views he either never held or has done a complete reverse ferret on.

MichelleofzeResistance · 09/01/2021 17:40

*spent whole decades making material, that should say.

SkeeterP · 09/01/2021 17:49

I absolutely hated Mumsnet (and netmums and babycentre .. remember that?) when I was posting as a new mum. Full of sanctimummies who would loftily destroy anybody who didn’t toe the line.

I still never venture anywhere beyond this board (apart from when I’m trying to choose paint .. Mumsnetters know their Farrow & Ball).

Childrenofthestones · 09/01/2021 18:39

Mock the Week,
She was brilliant, but.......

Have I got News for You,
Would I Lie to You,
Task master,
8 out of 10 Cats
etc
etc
That's Mary Bourke off the guest list

Childrenofthestones · 09/01/2021 18:41

Sorry, MTW should be under "She was brilliant".

unlike the inability to edit on here.🤨

Molesmokes · 09/01/2021 21:47

Must admit that I rarely stray far from FWR and have taken the precaution of a name change posting in the Dog House, in anticipation of a savaging if I put one paw out of line. Those cuddly pet-lovers can be a vicious bunch! If you’ve never been there, it’s nature raw in tooth and claw Shock

timeisnotaline · 09/01/2021 22:03

I got a bit stuck on the let the old people die bit at the start, and couldn’t tell how much of that and the not sure I’ll take the vaccine bit was a joke. She’s pretty good though.
