Last few days to support For Women Scotland's fundraising

Just spotted a tweet from Sarah Phillimore that the hearing is on 6th and 7th January, there is £18k to go to hit the target!

I thought/hoped some of you might be up for a bit of last minute seasonal digging to support them.

For those who don't know, FWS are challenging the Scottish Government's redefinition of "woman" to include men, whilst excluding some women. This has implications for the Equality Act throughout the UK.

Please google For Women Scotland and "judicial review" to find the page- Direct links to it here will result in the thread being removed.

Happy New Year to all the FWR gardeners; may this year be a fruitful one.

Potentially far-reaching judgment due on Tuesday. Whichever way this goes, the implications for women and for the rule of law are huge.

Appreciation to For Women Scot for fighting this misogyny, in a genuinely terrifying context. The Scottish Government appear to have taken leave of their senses.

PS makes me even more worried about the UK government's plans to limit the basis for judicial reviews. Without them women would have been utterly up the creek without a paddle or a picnic.

Dig for victory 💪💪💪

Lovely to see a “MN lurker” in the comments!

Manderleyagain · 23/03/2021 11:03

Just bumping because the judgement will be published at noon today. Couldn't find a better thread.

OvaHere · 23/03/2021 11:06

Thanks for the reminder. Scottish women could do with some good news. Keeping everything crossed.

It's so nerve wracking. 😰

I can't imagine what it's like for the FWS women.

ArabellaScott · 23/03/2021 12:06

Hidden? Okay.

The judicial review failed.

Absolutely gutted Sad

Grim news. I'm hoping that someone who understands legalese will be able to analyse this so that I can get a grip of what's going on.

OvaHere · 23/03/2021 12:22

Very disappointing. I'm not hugely surprised though. Scotland is such a mess with their dire treatment of women.

TalkingtoLangClegintheDark · 23/03/2021 12:23

Me too.

Awful, awful news.

Sad
Waitwhat23 · 23/03/2021 12:35

On a very quick read, the only thing that seems to be positive in this review is that the Government's representative was corrected over her use of the word policy when referring to the Scottish Government's stance that transwomen are women, as it has not been discussed, announced or assessed.

Waitwhat23 · 23/03/2021 12:40

On the whole though, not good. For the first time in my life, I'm embarrassed to be Scottish.

Nah, I was pretty embarrassed a few weeks back when despite listening to the impassioned narrative from multiple women the SG still decided that sex wasn’t an aggravating factor in hate crime.
Waitwhat23 · 23/03/2021 12:44

Sorry, I meant as a cumulative effect over the last few months. It's just got worse and worse. The rejection of the amendments to the Hate Crime Bill was the last straw for me - this is just putting the nail in the coffin.

Sexnotgender · 23/03/2021 12:45

I know the feeling. It’s heartbreaking watching them treat us like shit.

I’m 37 weeks pregnant with a daughter and I honestly don’t know if I can raise her here.

Sophoclesthefox · 23/03/2021 12:46

Fuckity fuck fuck.

I’m an expat Scot and husband wants to move back. Between this trend of women getting shit on, and the howling mess of the Nats, I really don’t want to Sad
