I'll revive the thread on Thursday

'Interesting' approach to the issue. I wonder if they tried to get two medical professionals, but couldn't get anyone to speak for the pro-blockers side, so resorted to this?

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 08/12/2020 10:48

Is it just me who thinks this will not end well?

nauticant · 08/12/2020 10:52

I think one side will ramp up the emotional manipulation in order to "win" and it won't inform anyone who hasn't already educated themselves about what's been going on.

I thought it was consent that was the issue.

They are missing the point with a pointless audio scrap.

Strictly speaking Motherhubbardinthecellar that decision of the High Court isn't in force at the moment because we're in the appeal period and if the Court of Appeal permit the filing of an appeal then the High Court decision will continue to be stayed until the Cout of Appeal decides on the appeal.

This seems quite odd to me. It's a complicated medical issue that is the thing, not an emotive one. So why ask parents who are not (presumably) medically qualified?

I mean, we can hear about their experiences as mothers, fine, but their opinions on the law is really not relevant, whatever they think, unless they are medics or lawyers, surely?

Am I coming at it wrong?

Clymene · 08/12/2020 11:37

Are they framing it as a decision that parents make like tiger parenting or extended breastfeeding or raising a child vegan or something? Surely not? Shock

ThatIsNotMyUsername · 08/12/2020 11:46

I wonder if they could get a mum of a child who was prescribed them for actual medical reasons? I can’t imagine they’d be sympathetic to kids getting them for other reasons.

HecatesCatsInXmasHats · 08/12/2020 11:54

I wonder if they'll ask the mothers and the presenter to read the full judgement beforehand 🤔

MedusasBadHairDay · 08/12/2020 11:58

I suspect this will be low on facts and high on emotion

ThatIsNotMyUsername · 08/12/2020 11:59

Anyone up for a bingo card?

SorryAuntLydia · 08/12/2020 12:10

I’m glad WH now treats mothers as the universal expert, ideal for illuminating the discerning radio 4 listener on all subjects.

I think on Friday, Woman’s Hour will feature two mothers debating whether it’s ok for boys to be gay.

And next Monday, two mothers will talk for and against the safety of the Large Hadron Collider.

I guess later in the week they can also decide if the COVID vaccine is safe or not.

Who needs experts when you have opinions?

StealthPolarBear · 08/12/2020 12:12

:o

ThatIsNotMyUsername · 08/12/2020 12:14

Maybe they need a ‘is R4 for for purpose’ discussion?

CaveMum · 08/12/2020 12:14

I thought the right to appeal was rejected yesterday?
CaveMum · 08/12/2020 12:17

I don’t fully understand the appeals process but this is what I saw on Twitter: twitter.com/radfemlawyer/status/1335926918223433734?s=21

NeurotrashWarrior · 08/12/2020 12:18

Oooh. Look forward to listen again on Friday.

Apparently it was make up for men today Hmm

ThatIsNotMyUsername · 08/12/2020 12:19

Oh - like we had in the 70s and 80s (not to mention ancient Egyptian times...)

Better a live X than a dead Y? I’ve heard that comment a few times and it makes me so sad.

ThatIsNotMyUsername · 08/12/2020 12:21

Reversible.

CaveMum, if you look at this tweet:

twitter.com/RadFemLawyer/status/1335929261560098817

the link it contains states in point 3. of the Order and Declaration that the High Court decision is stayed pending what happens with the Court of Appeal. This is quite common.
