I follow Jo on Twitter and feel that the GoodLaw project is a needed and good thing when it comes to holding ministers/gov spending to account. He seems to take refuge in the rule of law and facts .... so, so WHY after the recent ruling on puberty blockers is he tweeting and retweeting Trans folk who are sharing (in emotive and extra detail) their experience post ruling. What his deal?? What’s his skin in the game? Looked through some old tweets and he really seems to have come down hard against women’s rights.
Ca anyone explain his deal here?

Pressed the button too soon... And yes - his response does seem very performative and OTT. Maybe he was hoping for a role in panto.

Intersectionality in feminism never has to intersect with penis for fucks sake.

Man holding forth on what bad feminists women are gets this face from me Hmm

ghislaine · 11/12/2020 15:35
Does that include the windmill?

woodforgood.com/case-studies/jack-windmill
The windmill was put up for sale at £3m (bought for just over £1m) earlier this year and is currently under offer. I believe the sale is related to the court action being brought by the builders re £500k unpaid fees...
So just back to the London pad then.

@DannyGlickWindowTapping

We're a phalanx, now, then? I thought we were a cabal? You'll be telling me that we're no longer The Vulva People next! FFS.
I will accept nothing less than coven. How are we to know otherwise whether we are the goodies or the baddies?
yourhairiswinterfire · 11/12/2020 15:45

So frustrating. We have nothing in common. Women and transwomen are discriminated against for completely different reasons. Women and transwomen are persecuted by men for completely different reasons. Our healthcare needs are completely different, different life experiences, etc.

It makes zero sense to include them in feminism because we're poles apart.

WinterIsGone · 11/12/2020 15:57

I just read the Guardian article mentioned above, and I thought it was interesting that although he didn't meet his biological father until he was 17, it was through him that he actually got his first step on the ladder.

So when Katie Hopkins accused me on Twitter of being out-of-touch with the majority of people thanks to me having an Eton-educated father called [David] Benedictus, it seemed right to answer............ with David’s help, in time got a clerical job at the BBC. My work there... was enough to persuade Durham to offer me a university place, despite my grades.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 11/12/2020 16:33

Does that mean I have to just fucking shut up and listen to other people tell me about how my life is and what it means to be me?

Just like white, wealthy, middle class women for ages past, eh? Is this really it? We had, what, 50 years of being people and now we have to go back to being passive vessels to reflect somebody else's sense of who or what they are?

No, you don't. It's just a lazy way for misogynistic men like Maugham to try to dismiss women who raise inconvenient objections.

nauticant · 11/12/2020 16:47

Intersectionality in feminism never has to intersect with penis for fucks sake.

This might come as a real disappointment but according to Kimberlé Crenshaw it does:

books.google.co.uk/books?id=CLlaDwAAQBAJ&pg=PA58&lpg=PA58&dq=%22intersectionality+is+an+analytic+sensibility%22+%22trans+women+within+feminist+movements%22&source=bl&ots=i5RBxHIOo3&sig=ACfU3U0ngTm6BsopigQl0f16efReG54C1Q&hl=en&sa=X&ved=2ahUKEwjoyuad-8XtAhVuQxUIHRZ9DREQ6AEwFHoECCMQAg#v=onepage&q=%22intersectionality%20is%20an%20analytic%20sensibility%22%20%22trans%20women%20within%20feminist%20movements%22&f=false

See the paragraph "Intersectionality is an analytic sensibility" then "trans women within feminist movements".

SophocIestheFox · 11/12/2020 16:50

Can’t see the quotation, nauticant, but I think I knew that Crenshaw had gone down that route. Like so many things in life, it started out as a good idea, then...stuff happened.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 11/12/2020 17:16

If it doesn't consider 51% of the population as a discrete group with specific disadvantages and needs, then it isn't a good idea.

OldCrone · 11/12/2020 17:25

The fallout from JM's tweet about the holocaust continues.

Helen Mary Jones of Plaid Cymru is currently getting the witchburning treatment for a retweet of Rosa Freedman's tweet responding to JM (see screenshot).

www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-wales-55259522#

Rosa Freedman has written to the BBC to complain about this article.

Always this
Ereshkigalangcleg · 11/12/2020 19:45

That Plaid Cymru stuff is ridiculous. FFS.

RealityNotEssentialism · 11/12/2020 21:14

It’s disgusting that there isn’t more public outrage at the blatant anti-semitism on show.

Also saw this. Words fail me.

"Nicholas James, a member of Plaid Cymru from Wrexham since 2015, said he had cancelled his membership saying the retweet by the member of the Senedd (MS) for Mid and West Wales was "the final straw".

It's the final straw, man, the final straw! (Man.).

Passmeabottlemrjones · 12/12/2020 09:10

I know it's just blatant anti-semitism isn't it? Appropriating the holocaust in this way? A Jewish woman is saying 'hang on, this is seriously not ok' and a politician gets a bollocking for standing with that woman? Because.... Trans?

Yes, this.

It's even worse than that. Helen Mary Jones has been accused of holocaust denial by some idiots on twitter. For supporting a Jewish woman who was offended by someone comparing a High Court ruling to the holocaust. I posted some screenshots on the other thread.

You couldn't make it up.

SirVixofVixHall · 12/12/2020 09:44

The Holocaust denial accusation was bizarre - a deliberate attempt to throw mud and hope it sticks ?
I am so disappointed in the response from Plaid towards HMJ . Nothing it that retweet could possibly be construed as “transphobia”. Making her apologise was disgraceful.

SophocIestheFox · 12/12/2020 09:46

Even as Twitter bonkersness goes, that really is bonkers.

Helmetbymidnight · 12/12/2020 10:24

The most vociferous, high-profile and politically influential anti-trans group has turned out not to be the well-funded religious right or the supporters of Nigel Farage but a phalanx of wealthy, white, middle-class cis women (of whom billionaire J.K. Rowling is queen).

Jolyon still going on with his women-hate and his untruths.

nancywhisky · 12/12/2020 10:28

He sounds unhinged.

Helmetbymidnight · 12/12/2020 10:32

Oh wow, Fiona Millar responded to this tweet on Jolyon's timeline: This is one of the most upsetting aspects of being mother to a trans child - an army of white, posh, loud, women, who are hostile to my family & make hideous allegations about my parenting having not met us once. The only fact they know about my family is that my son is trans.

I did think she was more intelligent than that.

So now women are now not only unjustifiably being called white cis and posh - but also called 'phalanx' and 'army'.

Honestly, fuck them.

Clymene · 12/12/2020 10:38

It's DARVO in action. A bunch of women trying to stop children being driven down a path of lifelong infertility and medication and we're the baddies?

And if you're arguing for your child to be put into a state of adult prepubescence, I am questioning your parenting. Sorry Fiona.
