I follow Jo on Twitter and feel that the GoodLaw project is a needed and good thing when it comes to holding ministers/gov spending to account. He seems to take refuge in the rule of law and facts .... so, so WHY after the recent ruling on puberty blockers is he tweeting and retweeting Trans folk who are sharing (in emotive and extra detail) their experience post ruling. What his deal?? What’s his skin in the game? Looked through some old tweets and he really seems to have come down hard against women’s rights.
Ca anyone explain his deal here?

His behaviour suggests he is a misogynistic tosser - hope that helps. Obviously I am not saying he is one, as I don’t know him personally: just his behaviour would lead me to think that with no other information.

I don't believe a word he says anymore. Wouldn't send them a penny now (I have in the past) .. he's not rational. Think he's treading a very fine line with bringing his profession into disrepute at the moment. Leave him to it. We're all blocked anyway.

Biscuitsanddoombar · 04/12/2020 21:14

Previous threads discussing this have ended up deleted or full of so many deletions they’re like Swiss cheese.....

But yes OP it is indeed odd that someone would seem to be so personally invested.

justanotherneighinparadise · 04/12/2020 21:14

Why wax anyone sending him money?

justanotherneighinparadise · 04/12/2020 21:14

PotholeParadies · 04/12/2020 21:15

I think the child for whom he's bringing his legal action is a nephew or niece.

InterfectoremVulpes · 04/12/2020 21:20

Wouldn't that be a conflict of interest?

HecatesCatsInXmasHats · 04/12/2020 21:22

Puberty blockers for kids does appear to be a very personal crusade for JM

PotholeParadies · 04/12/2020 21:37

Actually, I'm misremembering. He tweeted an article about someone and their nephew, and commented that he had also been on a similar journey with someone he loves.

Exact relationship unconfirmed.

I used to support the GLP on a monthly basis, I stopped recently and told them why.

JM seems to have lost the plot on this issue IMO.

Impatiens · 04/12/2020 21:52

His attitude towards 'trans rights', the Tavistock ruling and any Woman who dares to challenge him is highly unprofessional.

GoodbyePorpoiseSpit · 04/12/2020 21:53

Ah a personal connection makes sense, it also does seem to be where many people disconnect from women’s rights - which could seem abstract if you are a man I suppose - to supporting trans ideology. The emotion of someone you know personally.

It also seems odd, unfocused and unprofessional.

the good law project is not just him tho, is it?

are the other lawyers not freaked out that instead of holding the govt to account they are bow fighting for children to access experimental drugs?

Helmetbymidnight · 04/12/2020 21:57

he has blocked hundreds of polite women on twitter- i find his behaviour unhinged. i dont know how his colleagues are standing for it.

FKATondelayo · 04/12/2020 21:58

Well, I think we all have theories.

Glance to camera, MIranda style

SweetGrapes · 04/12/2020 21:58

The emotion of someone you know personally.

As opposed to Women - whom he never knows personally??? Hmm

Biscuitsanddoombar · 04/12/2020 22:02

I do find it amusing but enraging that JM lectures us that white middle class oxbridge men have too much privilege & that we need to listen to marginalised people

the board of the good law project

goodlawproject.org/about/

Living those values eh JM?

GoodbyePorpoiseSpit · 04/12/2020 22:04

Yes exactly @Biscuitsanddoombar exactly!

The Good Law Project was good
when it was non personal
but its now just him and his bugbears
the rest of us have had to walk away

PotholeParadies · 04/12/2020 22:11

I can't believe they don't have the nous or the will to separate the funds for the different types of legal action.

GoodbyePorpoiseSpit · 04/12/2020 22:16

I phrased that poorly @SweetGrapes - but you’re right, it’s depressing when men don’t value the “lived experience” (Envy vomit phrase) of the actual women in their actual lives.

Maugham is going to bring down the Good Law project. It has done some really good stuff, but his latest case (suing the NHS for long waiting times) seems very unrealistic. Plus of course, having raised some money for that case he has now changed the focus of the case to overturning the PB case.

It is fascinating and disturbing to watch a lawyer let their emotion overwhelm their reason and their feelings override facts.

littlbrowndog · 04/12/2020 22:22

Just two white privileged guys. 😂😂

Preach it joly. Go on preach it
