Puberty blockers reversible according to them

Amnesty are a bunch of cunts.

testing987654321 · 03/12/2020 20:05

They don't know what they're talking about.

HermioneWeasley · 03/12/2020 20:07

They came out as woman hating misogynists a number of years ago when they declared sex was a human right

This is not a surprise

allmywhat · 03/12/2020 20:11

I assume they didn't read the judgement! They're just so confident they're right. The way that Stonewall and Mermaids were so confident they were right that they didn't prepare properly for the court case, and the Tavistock were so confident they were right that they didn't prepare either. They're all talking to each other in their little woke bubbles and blocking anyone who asks them inconveniently logical questions, and they literally don't know how reality works any more.

Amnesty may have to go under. Lots of organisations may have to go under. But I think there are enough people who are in touch with reality that eventually they all will get swept away by the tide.

Siameasy · 03/12/2020 20:14

I’m not shocked really as I know what they’re like but this argument is ideology-based and not factual. So many people trust them, I used to...

Melroses · 03/12/2020 20:14

Presumably they have all the PB data Tavistock couldn't find?

testing987654321 · 03/12/2020 20:15

Liberty as well.

They missed important parts of the judgement.

That the drugs don't have known long term consequences and are thus experimental.

That under 16s cannot consent to treatment they can't understand the implications of, gillick competence is only for things where they can appreciate the consequences.

That the Tavistock failed to collect data which a reasonable person would have expected.

Bit embarrassing for Amnesty and Liberty if you ask me.

"UNCRC: article 36 (other forms of exploitation) Governments must protect children from all other forms of exploitation, for example the exploitation of children for political activities, by the media or for medical research."
www.unicef.org.uk/wp-content/uploads/2010/05/UNCRC_summary-1.pdf

"Secondly, at present, it is right to call the treatment experimental or innovative in the sense that there are currently limited studies/evidence of the efficacy or long-term effects of the treatment."

MichelleofzeResistance · 03/12/2020 20:17

The judgement was an independent, objective legal assessment of the evidence submitted by the Tavistock.

It puts to bed the whole 'they're just a reversible pause button' argument. That door's closed. It's gone. Done. Finished. The ship has sailed. It's a dead parrot.

yourhairiswinterfire · 03/12/2020 20:18

So many professional organisations disappointed that the high court doesn't work like Twitter and tumblr. It'd be hilarious if it wasn't so alarming.

Siameasy · 03/12/2020 20:19

I wonder if they’ll backpedal - this is a high court judgement not some decision made on a whim. The arguments are the usual emotive activist stuff rather than fact or even balance

Why is this in their remit? Is the RSPCA also commenting ? The National Trust ?

They have no expertise in child development, medical matters or gender issues. As the millennials would say - stay in your lane.

zanahoria · 03/12/2020 20:22

All these people being disappointed is the jcing on the cake

be as disappointed as you like, it will not change the law

Defaultname · 03/12/2020 20:23

I just mis-read one of their tweets as appealing to "Trans' Supreme Leader" rather than "Iran's".

Give it a couple of years, mind, and who knows?

This, exactly. Also really evident in the liberal circles I move in.

"But they're fully reversible!"
"Hmm, and how do you know this?"
"Tavistock said so!"
"Why did they not present it as evidence then?"
"But everyone knows they're fully reversible! Tavistock said so!"

And so on.

I'm actually quite surprised. Used to work for them, aeons ago, when they still concerned themselves with small matters like the death penalty and prison camps in China..

I see Amnesty, too, are asking for money "During these uncertain times".

Luckily, the Court of Protection added certainty to at least one obscured corner yesterday. Something Amnesty should surely welcome?

It’s unbelievable.

The arrogance is staggering.

Good idea to archive Sunset as they will withdraw I think

I don’t understand how this is connected to Amnesty. Don’t they deal with political prisoners?

This is what happens with organisational capture and echo chambers
It was a bit like the election, it was such a shock to LOJ and co.

They were 'disappointed' about the government's response to the GRA consultation as well.

I think many people (particularly women) are ‘disappointed’ in Amnesty tbh
