Puberty blockers reversible according to them

"We tend in England, especially those who are white, middle class, privately educated and of privilege, to talk with meretricious authority about subjects we in fact know little about"

Like the privately educated & Oxbridge Barrister Martha Spurrier who runs Liberty perhaps? or Kate Allen who runs Amnesty UK who went to Brasenose College Oxford to study PPE

Siameasy · 04/12/2020 11:00

What do you reckon they’ll do?
Withdraw? Hope it goes away? Double down ?

Be good if newspapers picked up on it

Double Down - they have no other strategy. Its like a game of chicken really - see who flinches first. They're used to people capitulating in the face of their fury, they dont really have a strategy if that doesnt happen other than to just shout louder and announce people are literally killing children

TheCuriousMonkey · 04/12/2020 11:29

Ken yes they will almost certainly have had animal trials as that is a prerequisite for most medicines to be approved by MHRA (medicines regulator). PBs are MHRA approved, although their "on label" approval is a treatment for prostate cancer. They are legitimately used "off label" for precocious puberty.

TheCuriousMonkey · 04/12/2020 11:40

One of the shocking things to me is that the case shows up the opposite of what they say it does. It is those children who identify as trans who were receiving experimental drugs without proper oversight and without proper regard to their ability to understand the potential side effects. "Non-trans" kids haven't been subjected to this, and the same people proceeding their outrage now would be properly outraged if they were.

If the evidence on efficacy and on side effects had been available the Tavi would have provided it. The judges were rightly m horrified by the lack of an evidential base for the treatment. It is the trans children who suffer from this. It is them who the judgment protects.

One has to wonder why the fox killer and Amnesty and Liberty think the lives and wellbeing of trans children are so much less important than those of others.

Thingybob · 04/12/2020 11:44

A person on twitter, Maria Munir, has said that as Amnesty UK trans lead they were proud to work on that joint statement.

This person came out as non binary to Barrack Obama a few years ago.

The video of them doing it has just left me speechless.

OldCrone · 04/12/2020 11:44

And they certainly haven't been approved as treatment for a condition which we are told is not a mental health condition and is diagnosed largely on the basis of non-adherence to gender stereotypes.

Like vulnerable women. And vulnerable people. And females in general. And other people's rights. And legal judgements we should have read before opening our mouths. Yes.

I keep reading the title of this thread and mentally converting it to Amnesty disappointed by facts and reality.

cantdothisnow1 · 04/12/2020 11:46

Bloody disgrace, as the mother of an autistic girl who could very easily have been swept up in this born in the wrong body ideology, it is horrifying that an organisation like this does not see fit to SAFEGUARD children.

They don't care about children, at all!

Have they read the bloody judgment or are they just buying into the Mermaids school of thought?

I'm really really angry, I've previously made donations to Amnesty they have made a huge mistake.

Double down.

Its always double down when an individual/group has invested so much of their personal self/ image into an idea.

It always turns into a car crash.

Trump is the most obvious, high profile and current example of the same thing.

thinkingaboutLangCleg · 04/12/2020 11:48

Amnesty is now knowingly spreading lies. I can barely believe that, but I am reading them in Amnesty’s own statements. They no longer have even the flimsy defence of not knowing — and it was always a flimsy defence: Amnesty could have looked up the research about puberty blockers, suicide etc. But they choose to keep on spreading lies.

MichelleofzeResistance · 04/12/2020 11:49

it must be down to who they are hiring.

You're right. Having had in a work role once some contact with big charities, it's a very incestuous pool of people who periodically all swap jobs: little new blood, just seat swapping. And those employed (and kept) are very much of the type and Think Like Them. Anyone with different ideas rarely gets through interview, or if they do, either jumps ship or gets managed out quite rapidly. The ivory towers are very well moated and protected from reality and the thoughts of most ordinary people seeping in. The high ends of political parties now work much the same.

PotholeParadies · 04/12/2020 14:47

I'm really disappointed in Amnesty for this.

I don't generally believe in policing Likes on twitter or facebook, because you can't tell why someone liked it, what they were thinking, or if they even meant to Like it.

But this!

How is Colm O'Gorman, founder of One In Four, clicking Like on this, just because someone is saying it in service of the same side of the debate he's chosen?

The comment "Yes we must be nice until we are dead" sums up the state of play neatly.

ThatIsNotMyUsername · 04/12/2020 14:53

New name? Am Nasty?

PotholeParadies · 04/12/2020 14:55

What happens when we do recognise a predator?

You know, like Karen White, Eric single sex toilets are an out-moded concept Joyce, Barbie Kardashian and the other male in Limerick Jail? We get told we're transphobic!

VulvaPerson · 04/12/2020 15:37

Imagine being upset that GNC children will have the same protections, and same quality of care in medicine as all other children. They are basically WANTING this to be disregarded in favour of experimenting on such kids, and apparently they are the ones 'on the kids side'?!

PragmaticPrinciple · 04/12/2020 22:27

There must be no further curbs to the bodily autonomy and determination of any young person

Do they not know that you can’t even get a tattoo done under 18?

Silly twats.

Amnesty, run by Stonewall Wink

Thingybob · 04/12/2020 23:37

@Melroses

I just don't get it, how some people can be elevated to positions of power and influence so quickly. It can't be due to intelligence, talent or experience so is it just that they are useful puppets with someone else pulling the strings?

I am reminded of AC

Melroses · 04/12/2020 23:46

Yes, AC rose like a rocket.

A combination of entryism and helping hands?

I expect it is the old "It ain't what you know, it's who you know" thing.

Exactly this. The Tavistock were giving these kids a lower standard of care than children would get in any other part of the NHS. They were in effect discriminating against GNC children.
