Time for a new thread. Please can someone c&p the header post? (Am on phone.)

Changing tack, have all those “Part 1, 2, 3, 4, 5” threads on AIBU really been deleted because MN decided the OP was a PBP??? After all that time??

Not the OPs (they weren't all started by the same poster, iirc) - but a contributor who dominated some of the later ones, I think?

Re 'deadnaming' - the TRA is imposing their view on this historical figure. Is there any evidence as to whether they cared about so-called deadnaming, one way or the other? If someone wanted to find out more about this interesting person, would the post-transition name suffice? (Akin to needing to know a woman's name before marriage if she changed her name then and you wanted to find all her publications, really)

MoleSmokes · 08/02/2021 18:36

Thank you Winesalot! I had misremembered the Titles!

The other interesting thing about “Stepmum” was their repeated assurances that MN had agreed not to delete any replies to their posts if they were reported by other members.

Why would mods respect the wishes of “Stepmum” over the no doubt (ahem!) heartfelt distress and/or outrage of anyone reporting replies to “Stepmum”? Possibly ignoring reports of posts that were in breach of general Talk Guidelines and the “Special Rules”?

If MN was scammed by “Stepmum” then it makes me wonder if “Stepmum”’s motive was, at least in part, the usual garnering of screenshots?

Or maybe “Stepmum” was bragging about an imaginary agreement with MN? That is, that their wishes would override:

  • reports from other MN members
  • MN modding rules
  • MN site-wide Talk Rules
  • MM Special Rules for discussions around “Gender Identity and Sex”

Maybe a question for “Site Stuff”?? Hmm

@MoleSmokes

Well, I’m back after a week on the Mumsnet Naughty Step but have been cruising by for a spot of Unlogged-in Lurking from time to time Smile

Datun I see MN has deleted your post of 30/1/2021 where you said nice things about my posts. I’m very sorry if you were collateral damage in some way. I don’t recall you saying anything that would merit deletion Flowers

I asked MN if it might be helpful to list new “banned words and phrases” in the Special Talk Guidelines, eg. the “mountaineering” one, the “courageous” one.

The reply was that they are NOT outright bans but that they “consider the context”. Sort of Mumsnet Russian Roulette - what fun! Hmm

Which means that I might, for the purposes of clarity, get away with citing them here. Then again, it might result in another strike and another stint on the Naughty Step, so I’d rather not risk it. (Sigh!)

Changing tack, have all those “Part 1, 2, 3, 4, 5” threads on AIBU really been deleted because MN decided the OP was a PBP??? After all that time??

(I did a Search for “Part 4” in Titles and nothing came up.)

I was puzzled by the strange smattering of apparently contradictory opinions and beliefs held by “Step-mum” but did not get to see that all unravel.

Hey mole. Don't worry about it. It's a minefield!

It certainly sharpens my language skills, though. So that's a good thing 😁

ArabellaScott · 08/02/2021 21:16

Glad you're back, Moles. I would archive those aibus but am on my phone....

MissBarbary · 08/02/2021 21:19

@Ereshkigalangcleg

Excuse me, I don't often post on this thread as I don't think it's the place for me, but does anyone have any recipes for cassava root?

And, exactly how poisonous is it if you get it wrong?

You can make cassava chips. Peel, chop, parboil until soft and then roast in oil in the oven until crispy and golden. Generally the sort sold in U.K. supermarkets isn't the most risky kind.

I love cassava!

Thank you

Where has the Special Talk Guidelines thread gone this evening? It's usually pinned to the top of the board.

MoleSmokes · 08/02/2021 22:34

I can still see it there:

"Mumsnet moderation principles for discussions around gender identity and sex"

EndoplasmicReticulum · 08/02/2021 22:53

Maybe just me then? How strange.

ErrolTheDragon · 08/02/2021 22:58

I can see it in the browser. I usually use the app, that doesn't have any pinned threads anyway.

littlbrowndog · 08/02/2021 23:05

Cassava crisps are amongst some of the best

littlbrowndog · 08/02/2021 23:06

Welcome back moles 👏👏

MoleSmokes · 09/02/2021 04:05

Thank you littlbrowndog ! 😘

I will have to try to be on my best behaviour from now on! 😇

There's an outbreak of posts arguing how GC people taking action in the courts is somehow hypocritical/dishonest/wrong. At the same time, there are dark mutterings about how posters here might find themselves on the sharp end of a legal action.

In other words, "look GC people, it would be best for everyone concerned if your campaigning didn't involve the courts and you'd best do whatever you can to avoid them".

In the real world, after years of institutions ignoring arguments that they are acting unlawfully, it turns out that the one thing they can't ignore is a legal action that succeeds against them.

How coincidental!

Winesalot · 09/02/2021 09:30

Obviously not related to that thread but Is that the same logic as white women being told that reporting sex crimes in their work place is them being ‘calling for the manager’ and will lead to discriminatory policies, so women you should suck it up?

However, would the poster talking about court cases be the one that believes young women should do more anal, even if there is no pleasure in it, to remove the stigma for males?

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 09/02/2021 11:09

I find it very possible to lose track of what a particular poster has claimed and said, over time, especially if it is contradictory, and great length and very dull, repetitious a lot of the time, and with dubious statistics not worth checking and links to articles not worth reading.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 09/02/2021 11:13

Yes, good point.

DeaconBoo · 09/02/2021 14:01

Someone asked a few days ago, possibly on another thread - but I can't see any way of archiving (using the Archive.org or similar) pages that are 'cached' google results.

nauticant · 09/02/2021 15:04

When I do it I simply access the cached webpage, copy its URL (http:/...), put that URL into the archive webpage, and request that it be archived.

DeaconBoo · 09/02/2021 15:22

Pretty sure that's what I tried! No matter.

nauticant · 09/02/2021 15:54

Did you know that archive.fo/ is more likely to succeed in archiving a webpage but is less likely to be around in 10 years time while web.archive.org/ is the opposite?

Ereshkigalangcleg · 09/02/2021 18:17

That's useful to know nauticant.

MaudTheInvincible · 09/02/2021 23:16

I saw this tweet and thought of you all in here. It needs a content warning. It's quite abominable.

My eyes! my eyes are burning!

ErrolTheDragon · 09/02/2021 23:28

The only excuse for that is if you're really having to live out of your store cupboard and you're on about day 53.

littlbrowndog · 09/02/2021 23:29

But Errol why would you even have that in your kitchen. It belongs in the diy cupboard for sticking stuff together
