Amnesty International (Ireland) and NGO's argues for removal of political representation of women who defend biologicial reality

GrainneMhaol · 21/11/2020 14:17

But don't worry they are arguing for the right to access surrogacy, so they do know what biology is

"Let us say unequivocally that the statements of newly launched organisations that seek to defend biology or fight gender identity and expression do not represent the wider LGBTI+ community nor feminists in Ireland."

"We call on media, and politicians to no longer provide legitimate representation for those that share bigoted beliefs, that are aligned with far right ideologies and seek nothing but harm and division"

"Even now, transgender people continue to work for reforms that will increase the rights of gay and lesbian parents in surrogacy and adoption."

MerchedCymru · 23/11/2020 20:51

(a joke - not actually suggesting anyone is a Nazi mods)

XXSex · 23/11/2020 21:24

That was some take down. Well done to Iseult White.

DublinCrone · 23/11/2020 22:26

Great to see O'Gorman get ratioed on Twitter. That letter is a long rambling mess of incoherent bile, and no-one but the usual suspects are supportive.
The related petition isn't getting much traction at all either.
Maybe Colm could spend a bit more time actually familiarising himself with what is happening to women's rights, but that might entail some actual work.
Such a dissapointment. I remember how articulate he was in the past, speaking about clerical sexual abuse. Where is that clarity and passion now - certainly none of it for women.

StillAFeminist · 23/11/2020 22:30

Colm O’Gorman loves his anti-British rhetoric when he’s talking about women. I don’t recall him ever standing up for the North or speaking out about the Troubles or the Good Friday Agreement. He just uses it as another stick to beat women with and to do this at a time when we’ve had so many years of mostly peace and its fragile is disgusting.

ForeverFaithless · 23/11/2020 23:00

I'm forever grateful for the support and education of feminists here, no matter where in the world.
I want to stand up and shout louder with my Irish sisters but am too concerned about the consequences.

I will do what I can but I often despair at the hate towards women. It's difficult to stomach but at least my eyes are open to the truth of what's happening.

MaudTheInvincible · 23/11/2020 23:10

Once you see it, you can't unsee it ForeverFaithless.

It colours my life now, the knowledge of how much [some Hmm] men hold us in contempt, and how our rights to physical and psychological safety are apparently expendable, and that makes me angry.

Consciousness raising it used to be called. Now we have to do it all again, but the intelligence and humour of the women make it easier.

littlbrowndog · 23/11/2020 23:11

Stand up,stand up

Don’t let them divide us

What we all have in common is we are women 💪💪💪💪

littlbrowndog · 23/11/2020 23:14

I actually don’t think it’s the men we live with and interact with every day

I think it’s the men who have the power.

And don5 like the fact the women might just challenge that power

It’s global,

MaudTheInvincible · 23/11/2020 23:17

Cod! I loathe, loathe the underlying anti-British rhetoric accompanying some of that misogynistic piffle.

As the Psychologists will tell us, someone who has an innate sense of being "less than" will always try to find an out-group on which to project that uncomfortable sense.
Prejudice will always find a home- it might change it's target from people who are gay, to people who are travellers (the ultimate out-group in Irish society) to people who are women , but it's the same hatred underneath.

TLDR; "haterz gonna hate".

NiceGerbil · 24/11/2020 00:05

Personally any anti British (English) antipathy is a totally different ball game to the misogyny.

The first is a very different conversation to the second.

In this case I think the first is an excuse for contempt for women wherever they're from.

FionaMacCool · 24/11/2020 07:33

Umm, I dont know Gerbil.
There's a bit of "wrap the flag around me" sentiment to it, which attempts to make the misogyny impervious to criticism or examination.

I have no time for it, in any case.

Cailleach1 · 24/11/2020 07:57

Yes I agree. For women only though. It was like in the past women should be good Irish Catholics rather than getting notions about having reproductive rights or bodily autonomy from pagan England.

For the men though, it's our people (mra) all over the world. From Yogyakarta to Stonewall icons. MRA from UK saying to O'Gorman, 'one of the unbelievers on your patch'. Colm happy to say 'ta' on his twitter. Not don't be interfering in Ireland. MRA holding hands across the water. But Irish women have to be isolated. No support or solidarity. Fuck off Colm. In homage to that gobshite TD, I won't be taking lectures from the likes of you misogynists.

Agree with all of that Countess.

Cailleach1 · 24/11/2020 15:43

Excellent article, littlbrowndog.

There are a few good organisations being started up to defend women's rights. It is important that women lives aren't dragged back due to another version of 'the brothers'.

Women in Ireland seem to be in a worse situation than the UK as women as a sex don't have any protection of that characteristic in an Equality Act. Of course we don't (says she bitterly). I hope any fundraisers for actions or similar are well advertised. Those mra dominated orgs are getting women's flipping tax money to support their misogyny and campaign for women's erasure in public life and women's rights erasure full stop.

After discovering the wonderful Iseult White, I clicked on the O'Gorman twitter. Well, he is giving what we now know is his empty performance still. He has been revealed for what he is as joined a lobby advocating for the Irish legislature and media to shut down women's voices or concerns. Not even to be represented politically, but I'm sure he wants women's taxes to fund his misogynistic endeavours.

Never mind his retweeting about someone far, far away campaigning for women's equality and empowerment. As he fell behind a letter lobbying to withdraw women's voices in public life and political representation in the country he lives in.

I think they may have even surpassed John Charles McQuaid.

purplepizzabunny · 24/11/2020 15:51

I have emailed the Irish Centre for Civil Liberties to ask them what their views are on a letter that calls for people to be disenfranchised. No response. In the meantime the TRA takeover of NWCI and Abortion Rights is complete. I've started calling them Teni junior.

Weatherwarning · 24/11/2020 16:12

I just realised Iseult White is the granddaughter of Sean McBride, winner of the Nobel Peace Prize, and great granddaughter of John McBride and Maud Gonne. An impressive family and an impressive woman. I'm in awe.
That statement from the Countess is very good.

I would be shocked if they responded to you. Like the politicians and media who have done nothing to stop this.
purplepizzabunny · 24/11/2020 16:21

Amnesty Ireland is now tweeting without any sense or irony on the lack of freedom in Saudi Arabia.

Cailleach1 · 24/11/2020 17:54

It is no more than a shill now. Fake shell by woke blokes who in reality want women broke.

Far, far away. Sad face. We're such good, nice men.

Women where they live, 'take their voice and votes away'.

Cailleach1 · 24/11/2020 18:10

I'm so very cross at these Gobshites trying to stomp all over Irish women. Probably all women, given the chance. One of the comments in reply to Iseult White was

@amnesty @AmnestyIreland
have certainly learned a few lessons from regimes that abuse human rights.... Sadly they are meant to be applying the lessons to stop oppression, not further it.

Whoever added Amnesty's name to that document of hate has really compromised it, hasn't he?

Abhannmor · 24/11/2020 18:51

@Escapeplanning

Yes first thing they do is publish a diatribe demanding women are told to shut up.

It's Father Ted does Stepford Wives.

Love it ! That's about the size of it though.
