Amnesty International (Ireland) and NGO's argues for removal of political representation of women who defend biologicial reality

GrainneMhaol · 21/11/2020 14:17

But don't worry they are arguing for the right to access surrogacy, so they do know what biology is

"Let us say unequivocally that the statements of newly launched organisations that seek to defend biology or fight gender identity and expression do not represent the wider LGBTI+ community nor feminists in Ireland."

"We call on media, and politicians to no longer provide legitimate representation for those that share bigoted beliefs, that are aligned with far right ideologies and seek nothing but harm and division"

"Even now, transgender people continue to work for reforms that will increase the rights of gay and lesbian parents in surrogacy and adoption."

My DH has been a long term supporter of Amnesty. I think this is the final straw for him. He's cancelling his donation.

peanut2017 · 23/11/2020 14:13

[email protected]

If anyone has the time could they email Amnesty and tell them how ridiculous this all is and actually so offensive. I've sent one this morning asking for Colm o Gorman to resign.

Not sure how long I'll be left waiting.

Still waiting for National women's council and Irish girl guides to acknowledge my emails.

Weatherwarning · 23/11/2020 14:25

The National Women's Council board also needs to step down. I am not a supporter of cancel culture but they are funded by the taxpayer and are supposed to represent Irish women. To attempt to silence the ones they deem guilty of wrongthink shows how far from their purpose they have strayed. I am really disgusted by their actions.

GivesNoFox · 23/11/2020 15:27

The newspapers really need to pick this up, its past scandal territory now.

3timeslucky · 23/11/2020 16:09

When a letter like this is directed specifically to media and politicians you'd like to think either (or both) would respond. The silence is deafening.

Liberty is meaningless where the right to utter one’s thoughts and opinions has ceased to exist. That, of all rights, is the dread of tyrants. It is the right which they first of all strike down. They know its power. Thrones, dominions, principalities, and powers, founded in injustice and wrong, are sure to tremble, if men are allowed to reason of righteousness, temperance, and of a judgment to come in their presence.’ Frederick Douglass

‘Freedom of speech is a principal pillar of a free government; when this support is taken away, the constitution of a free society is dissolved, and tyranny is erected on its ruins. Republics and limited monarchies derive their strength and vigor from a popular examination into the action of the magistrates.’ Benjamin Franklin.

peanut2017 · 23/11/2020 16:50

I haven't spotted anything on this letter in the media - chicken shits

Cailleach1 · 23/11/2020 16:56

The irony of these people who expect everyone to swallow whole their men's rights/domination demands of the very imported ideology based on the Yogyakarta Principles. They have no problem adopting an unbridled men's rights ideology created in Yogyakarta and then being rolled out globally, it seems. They are happy to adopt and import that. But so unfair if women around the world showing solidarity, helping and learning from each other in the face of this attack on this renewed attack on female rights. To defend their and their daughters rights. Like they did to gain the vote in the first place. Well that's just not cricket. It is the only these wokie men who take from the Yogyakarta principles and use their statistics which can only come from other global places. Far, far away and dishonestly presented. Are they really trying to pretend it is an Irish home grown assault on women? That wouldn't actually be the 'good' thing they think it might be or on the right side of history. Definitely a case of them asking each other 'Are we the baddies'?

Gosh, pity the acorn isn't falling far from the tree. I was involved in the previous referenda and hoped the next generations wouldn't be happy to create a culture and legal system brutalise women and children with the stick of another imported ideology.

So 85% of the Dáil who passed the GRA were men. And these flowers of 'progressive' Irish manhood have nothing to say about that. Now they want to basically disenfranchise women. Well, the curtain is well and truly pulled back. And the sly little digs at Northern Ireland. They are really trying hard aren't they if they are scraping the bottom of the barrel like that. Of course, you can't expect them to do anything but go low. They have no rational argument and know they are just trumping and brandishing men's power. Like their predecessors did with the church.

MichelleofzeResistance · 23/11/2020 16:57

Women being beaten and gassed in Polant - press: nothing.

This atrocity signed by people who should be held accountable, calling for democracy and basic civil rights to be withdrawn from women who refuse to pretend biology has stopped existing - press: nothing.

What the hell does journalism mean these days? Cowardice, not kindness, is the virtue of 2020.

VulvaPerson · 23/11/2020 16:58

"We call on media, and politicians to no longer provide legitimate representation for those that share bigoted beliefs, that are aligned with far right ideologies and seek nothing but harm and division"

All well and good. Until you realise 'bigoted beliefs, that are aligned with far right ideologies' means..people who believe sex exists or/and that women should have rights Hmm

3timeslucky · 23/11/2020 17:09

@ VulvaPerson. Is it really "all well and good" to silence those who hold bigoted beliefs? I'm hoping I've misunderstood your post.

I have lived through the most bitter and acrimonious debates on divorce, abortion, marriage equality. There were bigoted beliefs expressed and views that I found really offensive were aired daily. Those beliefs and views had to be aired so that they could be countered. Closing down discussion and debate is never ok.

I completely agree that is is bonkers that the existence of sex and women's rights can be construed as bigoted beliefs!

Cailleach1 · 23/11/2020 17:20

There can be no debate, because daylight will show it up for what it is. O'Gorman couldn't even support this signature to Iseult White. Just 'Did you read it?'

Nasty, cowardly gobshites.

VulvaPerson · 23/11/2020 17:24

Maybe a bit blase that, sorry I didn't mean that at all Blush Was just a..often use phrase really. I don't think silencing even those who hold 'bigoted beliefs' is right, and trying to stop others having representation, even if you disagree with their views, is quite shit really.

TweeBree · 23/11/2020 17:46

Great to see Iseult White speaking out against this. She seems to get it.

Cailleach1 · 23/11/2020 17:47

Interestingly Amnesty was originally a British organisation until Sean Mac Bride came along and made it international. Is that not a problem for you and your men's rights activists, Colm? I thought that you and your fellow men's rights activists have problems with anybody campaigning for human rights that have links outside of Ireland. Except for those campaigning for the men's rights and demands from the Yogyakarta Principles. Men's rights campaigners from all around the world. In Yogyakarta in Indonesia. It is just women who have to be kept isolated. All the better to suppress them.

I hoped that was where you were coming from Smile

The madness of what is going on has made me hypersensitive to words.

She was really good. And CO'G had no reply to her. Ironic that he asked had she read the letter when it seems pretty clear he doesn't fully understand what he put his name to (or is claiming he doesn't).
goodbyetrump · 23/11/2020 18:11

Colm O'Gorman sounds like he is out of his depth intellectually,

Weatherwarning · 23/11/2020 18:59

The email sent out by LGB alliance raising safeguarding concerns about the Belong To education in schools was sent on 15th November.
On 20th November that letter was signed calling for them to be silenced and makes reference to this
"They have attacked LGBT+ education in school,"
They call for the group not to be given airtime, for politicians and media not to represent them.
But educational material for schools must be open to scrutiny. Safeguarding should always be a priority. Even if you question the LGB Alliiace motives, they have a right to highlight safeguarding concerns. The fact that "respected" groups such as Amnesty and the Women's Council signed letter that attempts to silence this group is shocking.

Escapeplanning · 23/11/2020 19:01

Miles out of his depth. That letter went on and on and on. It's obvious someone told him it was about LGB Alliance so he just signed it.

That's what is so appalling about these donkeys. They are so misinformed but so sure about their firm grasp on everything. It's just stupid. I bet he's paid a lot for wandering around aimlessly.

Escapeplanning · 23/11/2020 19:58

Last Friday, to mark “Transgender Day of Remembrance” (TDoR) a number of Ireland’s leading non-governmental organisations signed an open letter calling on the “media, and politicians to no longer provide legitimate representation for those that share bigoted beliefs”.

It seems like it's been written by this person.

On November 13, the National Women's Council of Ireland appointed five new board members, including leading trans activist Sara R Phillips

NiceGerbil · 23/11/2020 20:31

It is very very long.

I skimmed and noticed that Marsha p Johnson was a woman, and surrogacy is awesome especially for lesbians...

MerchedCymru · 23/11/2020 20:39

“I have been amazed at the work of inclusion Sara R Phillips has carried out for women across Ireland. Feminism is intersectional, and her advocacy for women, trans people, and intersex people is amazing. Well done, the NWCI will benefit from you work, passion, and heart.” CEO of TENI Éirénne Carroll

Interesting take on the meaning of 'advocacy for women'.

Escapeplanning · 23/11/2020 20:48

Yes first thing they do is publish a diatribe demanding women are told to shut up.

It's Father Ted does Stepford Wives.
