Sorry I don't have a share token. Anyone? The comments are very good and very supportive. A lot of criticism of academia and about time. Grace Lavery features of course. US is now breaking ranks and the comment from Obama is interesting

(Off topic but I can't work out how to do share tokens! Anybody know?)

highame · 21/11/2020 08:03

I've tried to find out but Times call centre staff don't seem to know either

I can't do share tokens from my tablet but from my phone and both computers I use.

Thanks for the share token. Interesting article, great comments.

whyohwho · 21/11/2020 08:32

What was the Obama comment? Thanks

boatyardblues · 21/11/2020 08:34

I mostly want to know who Jo March is. She is always so incredibly articulate. I would like to send her flowers/buy her a drink/whatever. Grin

SophocIestheFox · 21/11/2020 08:45

Grave Lavery is certainly an interesting character. As is Chase Strangio. Worth a google.

What was the Obama comment, I missed that?

highame · 21/11/2020 08:50

As Obama has stated, ‘the woke generation have formed a circular firing squad and are shooting each other’.

Thank you !

I loved Grace Lavery criticising GC people for taking her statement about burning the book literally, while then immediately going on to treat the image on the cover of the book as if it is a literal claim.....Hmm Hopefully Times readers will be astute enough to pick up the hypocrisy.

Winesalot · 21/11/2020 09:05

It is amazing to see the reaction to this book. It is like the furore about Troubled blood. It is the Streisand effect that keeps going.

Transpeople keep trying to get it banned, stating (or shouting) that it is full of lies .... yet I have not seen one person discredi the reports mentioned in it successfully. And I have seen not one of the people the chosen case studies reference come forward to say they have been misrepresented....

Yet, we have been told by the males who post on FWR that the book is full of lies and I doubt they have even read it. These are also posters who advocate for affirming only treatments including medicalisation for under 18‘s despite their lack of acknowledgement that the majority of that age group is female and the effects of medicalised transition for them has higher risk and irreversible consequences. Consequences they wave away as acceptable from their positions of having had children and a sex life and as males who transitioned as adults and often as mature adults. Ie they have no experience as teenage girls going through the difficulties associated with puberty, sexism or the specific mental health issues unique to the teenage girls of today.

So many people don’t want this issue explored so that our children and teens have access to the best treatment options FOR THEM. Not what some mature males would have liked available for when they themselves were teenagers because that is only relevant to a diminishing portion of those seeking help now.

I always ask just who benefits from this shutting down of discussion.

The answers I come up with are never the children and teens.....

And I would like one of those mature male posters to state exactly what lies are told in this book they have tried to discredit.... any takers?

I hadn’t heard of Grace Lavery and thought that picture was a curious one for an academic to use so I looked them up. Well would you ever ...

Winesalot · 21/11/2020 09:18

Lavery is very vocal on twatter. Very vocal indeed.

Collidascope · 21/11/2020 09:38

It's on Audible. I might download that today.

Very curious. Honestly don’t think many people would take me seriously if I used a similar image ... amazing what they can get away with isn’t it?

The comments underneath this article are really fantastic, they are really getting to the point.

I like the very reasonable commenter who was peaked by asking reasonable questions and getting the typical responses we have come to expect.

Jo March is not on Twitter she says but the issue arrived in her work place. I wonder what she does for a living...

Rolled my eyes at the paragraph: “However, the book was titled Irreversible Damage: The Transgender Craze Seducing Our Daughters and it features on its cover a picture of a young girl with her belly removed.”

Comments are good. Seems that Disgusted of Manchester hasn’t found the article yet. Suspect he doesn’t read the world news section...

kesstrel · 21/11/2020 10:11

I wonder if Lavery even realises that testosterone removes female fertility after a few years, with no surgery required? And that nearly 100% of prepubescent kids given puberty blockers go on to cross--sex hormones? Because that's how I understand the image on the front of the book.

Of course, male-born people who transition after puberty can just use a sperm bank, if they want to preserve their fertility. So why should they care, or bother to inform themselves about what the situation is for females?

Sometimesonly · 21/11/2020 10:28

@persistentwoman Thanks!

FannyCann · 21/11/2020 10:29

Just picked up the copy I ordered yesterday. Cost rather a lot but I refuse to use Amazon or give Waterstones the business when they have basically blacklisted it but can order it in, so my local independent book shop had to get it from USA whilst explaining the extent of the censorship going on with the book to me.
It looks really good, just need to crack on and finish Troubled Blood and get stuck in.

Winesalot · 21/11/2020 10:30

I find this is a common theme unfortunately. Particularly with regards to FWR regulars. Their lack of self awareness is glaringly obvious.
