Conservative Asian Female Home Secretary accused of bullying

MsSafina · 20/11/2020 16:24

If this were a BAME female Labour Minister, would the reaction be different? Just goes to show, it's nothing to do with gender or race but all about politics.

@MsSafina

I think she'd get a softer ride from the left leaning press were she Labour and accused of bullying. I prefer if people are judged by their record in office and not whether they're BAME or female.
But this is another part of the problem : Patel's record in office is appalling. I can't ever recall a Defence Secretary running their own policy without reference to the government. May quite rightly dismissed her. How on earth was she allowed back in ? But a fish rots from the head they say.
XDownwiththissortofthingX · 20/11/2020 20:04

How is the promised inquiry into racism going that was talked about at the leadership election?

Surely any Tory inquiry into anything is utterly pointless, since as we've seen today, the leadership will just completely dismiss the findings if it doesn't suit them.

"The Tory Party is institutionally Islamophobic'

"meh, merely opinion, accidental Islamophobia, the general public needs to move on, this matter is closed' etc etc

MsSafina · 20/11/2020 20:04

"As I said your politics are showing."
Not sure what you're griping on about. I said I'm an immigrant who appreciates having a British passport but these days, saying something like that singles you out as a racist it seems. It appears Patel arrived here without two pennies to rub together after being thrown out by Idi Amin. I don't expect any of you to understand what it's like to arrive in a country with no money and work your way up from the bottom.

What a bizarre thing to say.

What makes you imagine you are the only immigrant on this thread, MsSafina? Or the only one from immigrant parents?

XDownwiththissortofthingX · 20/11/2020 20:10

Pritti Patel was born in London. I'd be pleasantly surprised if she could point to Uganda on a globe.

Onjnmoeiejducwoapy · 20/11/2020 20:10

I know people who have worked closely with her who have some stories to share... she is well known in Westminster to be horrible, and that is really saying something by the standards of treating staff there.

The other biggest bully until recently was Dominic Cummings—government have just settled a law suit with Sajid Javid’s old Spad about that. Priti also has numerous formal complaints about her behaviour, has been found guilty by the person responsible for investigating (who is inclined towards letting people off the hook)—in short you’re either partisan or an idiot if you don’t think it’s true. Most of the stuff about her can’t be printed but is universal knowledge.

MsSafina · 20/11/2020 20:13

How should I know how many immigrants there are as nobody has said anything up to now? As I said, anyone who has chosen to emigrate here of their own volition must be treated exactly the same as everyone else and that means pulling a race card is not acceptable. That includes Priti Patel and Dianne Abbott.

OP posts:
PerkingFaintly · 20/11/2020 20:14

Also, although I made a joke of it above, I am actually quite disgusted by you saying that Warsi shouldn't be in the Tory party.

On many levels.

From "Who the fuck do you think you are to dictate to Warsi what political party she belongs to? FYI She doesn't have to fulfil whatever stereotype you hold for her, you know."

To: "Does the concept of the 'critical friend' go completely over your head? If so, how on earth do you expect any organisation ever to hold itself to any standard?"

MsSafina · 20/11/2020 20:25

I don't think I said Warsi shouldn't be in the Tory Party. I illustrated her points on HIGNFY about every Asian parent saying they want their child to be like Rishi hedge fund as typical of Asian and Tory immigrants.

I might be misreading/misunderstanding your point OP, but surely it’s because everyone should be treated exactly the same as everyone else means that ‘pulling a race card’ is what happens when BAME people aren’t treated exactly the same?
FiveToFour · 20/11/2020 20:36

As a 'middle class lefty' who loves her country I don't hate Priti Patel but I don't want someone behaving as it is reported she has behaved in a position of power in it.Equally applicable any MP.That's not how I want my country to be.
And I believe in equality of opportunity as much as is possible ,for me that means if your opportunities are affected by your race you have every right to bring that up,whether you are an immigrant or not.

She's still a Tory. In spite of her allegations. If she finds it unpalatable she should leave and sit as an independent

Cwenthryth · 20/11/2020 20:47

I’m not quite sure I’m following the spat with OP being offensive on various topics around race.

But my 2p on this is I was very confused listening to Patel’s non-apology on the radio today, repeated by at least 2 other Tories that I heard.... she apologises if her behaviour upset people. That old chestnut. Surely the whole point of this is that we know she upset people. Ministerial code or not, meeting definition of bullying or not, she has upset people. She should be apologising that she upset people, not if!!! Take some responsibility for your actions.

Thing is I bet most of us who are upset and appalled by both her inaction and BJ’s covering, would never vote Tory anyway. So they don’t need to worry about our votes do they.

MsSafina · 20/11/2020 20:49

Come on OP know your subject please! born in London, parents ran a chain of shops, she did not have work hard at all.

Her views on the death penalty are abhorrent as are her ones on immigration as well as hypocritical, i'm sure she'd be happy to sink those rubber dinghies crossing the channel.

MsSafina · 20/11/2020 20:56

To sum up: Tories don't like her because she's not strict enough about illegal immigration, especially the recent boatloads coming in from France. The left thinks she is a racist. So clearly, the Tories are just judging her on not delivering Tory policies.

Merely pointing your made up facts.

Nowt wrong with entrepreneurs, they make the world go round.

Gingerkittykat · 20/11/2020 21:05

@MsSafina

Patel is an example of Boris wanting to modernise the Tory party with BAME representatives. The fact that they should be incompetent may be lost on the professional race baiters who occupy actual jobs.
I'm assuming you have forgotten Boris comparing women in Burkas to pillar boxes and thieves, calling gay men bumboys or calling Black Africans Picanninies? I don't think you can call him progressive on these issues at all.

I've no doubt Patel has faced abuse for her race and sex, just like the horrific abuse Diane Abbott has faced. That is wrong but she still deserves to face the consequences for her actions.

MsSafina · 20/11/2020 21:07

Many Indian Asians tend to be Conservative rather than Labour.

You are the one who keeps deflecting by bringing up racism, poor immigrants etc. This is very bloody simple. You don't want to answer the question. There is only one point. Is bullying right or wrong? No more Tiger Mother deflections - the reason we aren't justifying our opinions by referring to our ancestry is because it isn't vaguely relevant. Do you support bullying and bullies or not? Does race and gender justify bullying, and if so, why?
MsSafina · 20/11/2020 21:13

"Horrific abuse of Abbott." Well she is certainly the first one to whine about it, whereas Javid who has been called a coconut by lefties, very rarely complains. That's why I think you should judge people by their performance and not ethnicity or gender.

You re surely trolling now? Abbott has received many many rape and death threats, often from the extreme right, who went on to murder a so called leftie MP.

The person bringing in race or gender is you. PP has been found tohave bullied by an independent inquiry, thats ALL she should be judged on.

LivingDeadGirlUK · 20/11/2020 21:29

Shes an awful woman, a bully, self serving, and dishonest. This has been firmed up by an independant report yet she has not resigned or been removed from her position.

Thinking she is hard done by and then sneering about the abuse of Diane Abbot just makes you look daft OP. Surely this discrimination you see is still outrageous when it happens to left wing politicians?
