This one’s popped onto my radar a few times over the past couple of weeks .. thought it was worth sharing as there is a lot to unpack. Apologies if it’s already been shared .. I checked back but couldn’t see anything.

MW is very much a not nice person, who, if they had any compassion, would not be in thd post they are in.

Twistiesandshout · 06/11/2020 23:01

New to this on MN, but had to have my say on this topic.. The misogyny is everywhere these days. We fought for so long to have our single sex spaces and these are being taken from us, the fact rape crisis counselling is being run by a man and women can't be guaranteed single sex space.. it feels crazy. The focus on trans is hugely out of proportion. Who are victims of sexual assault (overwhelmingly women), who are perpetrators (overwhelmingly men). Surely these simple facts are all that we need to know? As a rape and sexual assault survivor I have never felt at risk by a trans-man, because they are biologically female, I have felt at risk by trans-women because they are biologically male.

BewaretheIckabog · 06/11/2020 23:21

Once again I am more simplistic and less erudite than most posters.

But in my simplistic way I have the following questions:

Would any person with any compassion or ordinary decency apply for or take a role, knowing their presence may disenfranchise or exclude the very set of vulnerable people the role was supposed to support?

Would I not understand that my desire for recognition was less important in this instance than the women who needed that service?

Without that self realisation I would be unsuited to the role.

Escapeplanning · 07/11/2020 00:24

It's like the guy in the rubber pants for the NSPCC, it's just beyond comprehension
Same, absolutely the same mindset and the women singing along with this........

testing987654321 · 07/11/2020 02:30

Without that self realisation I would be unsuited to the role.

And with that self-realisation I would know I was unsuited to the role.

Men should not be running rape crisis centres.

ChoosandChipsandSealingWax · 07/11/2020 08:11

It beggars belief. I saw a heartbreaking story by a Scottish woman whose 14 year old daughter had been raped by four men, then offered a trans woman counsellor. She had PTSD and couldn’t take up the service, but wasn’t allowed to complain/have a different counsellor, so she was effectively denied access to counselling.

How anyone could put that person’s need for validation (can I say that natal male, or will that get me zapped???) ahead of a deeply traumatised young girl’s need for actual help, I do not and cannot understand or accept.

ChoosandChipsandSealingWax · 07/11/2020 08:12

I wonder how many trans woman rape counsellors there ARE, in Scotland - I guess it’s very possible this is one and the same individual...

Cailleach1 · 07/11/2020 09:53

So, is it now SNP policy that the paltry amount of women's funding to provide respite after assault and physical danger is to be further reduced by diverting part of it to create awareness wrt another group of people? Depressing how you can see the way all this is going for women.

HaveaStock · 07/11/2020 10:43

It’s very telling that they are invoking the Hindu Goddess Kali - a very Feminist icon after all. ‘Kali is the quintessential embodiment of shakti, female power‘. I believe that Mdridil worked for the organisation Shakti. So anyone objecting to this imagery will be denounced as a racist as well as a transphobe rest assured.

‘Kali embodies the boundless and existential freedom to be—without seeking permission.’

Clever.

Duckwit · 07/11/2020 10:50

Wow, just come across this person... Wow!

Yes, as an Indian woman I am disgusted to see an Indian male appropriate the iconography of the goddess Kali for their own agenda. Desecration of the symbolism of female power. Skin colour and nationality has never stopped males from trying to erase womanhood.
Whatsnewpussyhat · 07/11/2020 11:15

The only correct thing the rape centre should've done was fired them the instant they found out they were a lying Male. Because they were legally allowed to employ a female only for the role.

Safeguarding gone to shit

IDontMindMarmite · 07/11/2020 12:02

Placemarking, I'll have a look in detail later

queenofknives · 07/11/2020 19:39

This is so upsetting. Wtf. Women's work being trashed and turned into profit-spinning validation enterprises for MRAs. No one who's a decent human being can support this.

PrincessForADay · 07/11/2020 20:47

Surely anyone working or volunteering with vulnerable women who have survived rape & sexual abuse should be enhanced DBS checked?

Tiny bit of good news in that Wadhwa has been rejected as an election candidate.

PurpleHoodie · 08/11/2020 07:09

Good news.

NeurotrashWarrior · 08/11/2020 07:59

Glad to see the thread still here.

I still query the process that allowed this. Someone or something somewhere has enabled it to happen.

I sit in safeguarding training at work seeing the gaping loophole that I'm not allowed to mention and I wonder if it's this. Though a human helping hand is undoubtedly there too.

NeurotrashWarrior · 08/11/2020 08:00

@BlackForestCake

Tiny bit of good news in that Wadhwa has been rejected as an election candidate.
On what grounds?
ArabellaScott · 08/11/2020 08:47

Other candidates won. MW passed the vetting process.

ArabellaScott · 08/11/2020 08:58

I was surprised to read the reactions on Twitter to this candidate, btw. It seemed to be more SNP supporters complaining about how it was damaging the case for independence than feminists commenting. MW, by knowingly taking a job specifically advertised for females, a job requiring sensitivity and empathy for vulnerable women, and thereby demonstrating instantly their lack of such qualities, seems to have brought some of the potential issues of self ID to a broader audience.

So the women of Forth Valley Rape Crisis are stuck with Wadhwa.
fatblackcatspaw · 08/11/2020 10:55

I was hoping more pushback towards Rape Crisis Scotland would be happening on twitter over this but no.... any bright suggestions about combatting this gratefully recieved...
