Retailer called MeUndies announces new range of Harry Potter themed pyjamas. Attracts predictable responses. Also, notably, huge kickback against the first few woke replies.

This person has utterly lost the plot. No attempt to engage with any replies, of course. I'd have said alleging JKR is advocating violence against trans people was libellous.

Brands continue to disappoint, but @MeUndies takes the cake this week. For a purported LGBTQI friendly brand their Harry Potter partnership upset me. I wrote them and asked them not to support anything that helps a TERF profit, and they said no. Don't buy their stuff. Ever.

Seriously, multiple super-defensive and dismissive emails that they've done enough for the LGBTQI folx out there. You can't hurt people with a campaign like this and not care, say you've done enough in the past, @medundies. Your greed is showing.

Seriously, this wanton disregard for the safety of LGBTQI folx makes me hope that @MeUndies takes a serious hit to their bottom line. Soft underwear is everywhere, people. Buy the stuff that doesn't support campaigns and voices that advocate violence against trans folx.

I’ve just finished work and come back here to catch up. This thread is a treat. Off to bed soon. In the Slippers of Sin and the Nightie of Nastiness.

thinkingaboutLangCleg · 30/10/2020 22:55

Whenever someone uses 'vulva-owners' for biological women, just say that it feels you are being erased and literally killed and you now feel incredibly unsafe.

Great idea, and if the TRAs were honest, or logical, or consistent, it would have to work. So that’s not going to happen.

NRatched · 30/10/2020 23:20

Would it work?

Not a bloody chance.

Most likely outcome..a bunch of blokes calling us hysterical attention seekers, and a bunch of bearded blokes saying we are taking the piss out of the genuine fears transfolx have by pretending to feel unsafe when we are highly privileged, nasty bigot!

Or smething.

AnyOldPrion · 30/10/2020 23:51

@FairFridaythe13th

I forget - wasn’t there a company here to who refused to play and just said ‘potato’? Or did I imagine that?

Killer kacks.

It was Bird’s Eye in response to transactivists trying to stop them advertising on Mumsnet.
EmpressJKRowlingSpartacus · 30/10/2020 23:58

You know what this is....!!!!

THIS is the long-awaited Coming of the Sturdy Pyjamas.

MrsSlocombesPussy · 31/10/2020 00:50

I've also spotted an advert on Facebook for M&S. They are also doing a range of kids Harry Potter clothes. In about 100 comments I saw 3 whining about transphobia, which have so far been ignored.

Dear trans-identified snowflakes,

Please stop throwing hissy fits about Harry Potter underwear.

We are not that fragile. It’s insulting to portray us as vulnerable to the menacing evil of themed panties.

Feigned fragility is no substitute for a personality.

Thanks.

One really wonders how a transwoman can speak with authority on womanhood with a straight face. We know variably boyhood and manhood and transwomanhood but never womanhood. To suggest we know womanhood is to lie to the world and to ourselves. Give the truth a try!

This thread is hilarious, thanks women of FWR

There’s a lot of Tantrumming flimg on on twitter...

PenguindreamsofDraco · 31/10/2020 11:06

The self abasement of the MeUndies press release is just painful to behold.
And it will never be enough.

Whatsnewpussyhat · 31/10/2020 11:25

I shall be awaiting the protests outside primark stores.

TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 31/10/2020 11:28

Yeah they would be far better not mentioning trans at all and going ‘Thank you for your interest in our brand. The Harry Potter range is one of our biggest sellers and we are proud to partner with an author who has contributed [insert number of millions here] to good causes. Check here for more news of further Harry Potter products in the spring!’
The censors would go apoplectic with rage for a week then go away.

Maerchentante · 31/10/2020 11:35

The MinaLima Team, who have been making the props for all HP and Fantastic Beasts films are currently promoting illustrated HP books on their FB page.
Someone I loosely know spams a lot of their posts by saying "You continue to promote a literal transphobe".
I would say "grow up", but this woman is in her mid forties.

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 31/10/2020 11:44

I feel 'Grow up ' would be entirely justified. No teenage hormones to blame.

@BaronessWrongCrowd

Halloween Hmm I wonder if any of these people actually enjoy life and know how to laugh? Or do they spend all day policing the internet trying to make everyone else as miserable as they seem to be? Halloween Confused
I often wonder the exact same thing about GC people 😂🥳
PenguindreamsofDraco · 31/10/2020 13:29

Yep. Said how strongly they disagreed with everything JKR says and stands for, but their product line has been years in the coming, they cant afford to pull it, so please buy it anyway.
So pleasing no one really.

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 31/10/2020 13:30

Really stupid of them to cave. I'd never heard of this business before yesterday but from some of the responses it looks as if some people paid them a monthly subscription. I don't understand how or why - did they get fresh pants sent out every month, or similar? Anyway, some of the professionally offended were threatening to cancel their subs. But dozens of people were pictching in saying 'Great, I'll buy six pairs for Christmas presents!' and similar. Now, OK, talk is easy and maybe very few orders were actually being placed. But common sense says that older women have more spending power than teenagers and recent graduates, so if they'd actively courted that market they could have done well. Also, anybody who's spent any time watching this sort of thing develop on social media knows that nothing you say or do is ever enough.

What they've done now is too little too late for their erstwhile fans and far too much for their potential new customers. So they lose all round.

These idiots won’t be buying anything anyway. Just a destructive little hobby they have.

Businesses should just tell them to bugger off.
