Retailer called MeUndies announces new range of Harry Potter themed pyjamas. Attracts predictable responses. Also, notably, huge kickback against the first few woke replies.

This person has utterly lost the plot. No attempt to engage with any replies, of course. I'd have said alleging JKR is advocating violence against trans people was libellous.

elizabeth tobey @dahanese
Brands continue to disappoint, but @MeUndies takes the cake this week. For a purported LGBTQI friendly brand their Harry Potter partnership upset me. I wrote them and asked them not to support anything that helps a TERF profit, and they said no. Don't buy their stuff. Ever.

Seriously, multiple super-defensive and dismissive emails that they've done enough for the LGBTQI folx out there. You can't hurt people with a campaign like this and not care, say you've done enough in the past, @medundies. Your greed is showing.

Seriously, this wanton disregard for the safety of LGBTQI folx makes me hope that @MeUndies takes a serious hit to their bottom line. Soft underwear is everywhere, people. Buy the stuff that doesn't support campaigns and voices that advocate violence against trans folx.

Sounds like a totally disproportionate punishment. Hmmph!

JuliaJohnston · 30/10/2020 20:35

The safety of folx is being compromised by people selling pyjamas they disapprove of.
You can only assume there are quite serious mental health issues at play here 🤷🏻‍♀️

HelpMeh · 30/10/2020 20:44

I love HP. I want pyjamas but I can't access the website Angry. Is it just me??

SunsetScreech · 30/10/2020 20:49

@PotholeParadies

Someone has discovered the safety person is important at Medium, that site that keeps banning gender critical people from posting their essays on it.
Ahhhhh.
Dogman · 30/10/2020 21:04

@PotholeParadies I have to agree. I see how horrendous threats against GC women not being sanctioned.

Working for me.

Some of it has already sold out, so not sure how well the cancellation is going.

Guns don't kill people, knickers do, is perhaps my favourite tweet ever Grin
I know.

Has the company really apologised? Idiots

Melroses
Harry Potter and the Gusset of Fire

Is that the tale of happens when all we're left with is the scented sanpro?

PotholeParadies · 30/10/2020 21:36

They haven't exactly apologised.

They're trying to please everyone, and thus angering everyone. (Actually, I think people who don't much care about the topic will be happy with the statement, and they're probably the bulk of the customer base.)

Anyway, this was the response.

We disagree with the author’s recent comments. We have always supported the LGBTQIA+ community and will continue to do so as a company. We also have a Pride Employee Resource Group internally, which hosts dialogues surrounding LGBTQIA+ events throughout the year.

PostItJoyWeek · 30/10/2020 21:41

I love how they are not caving.

TRAs going nuts on this tweet. They do not like the failure to beg on bended knee.

Ha brilliant.

FairFridaythe13th · 30/10/2020 21:56

I forget - wasn’t there a company here to who refused to play and just said ‘potato’? Or did I imagine that?

Killer kacks.

Twitter loving it

Not going well at all. I feel sorry for her. I'm sure she's just trying to do what she believes in.

I don't think I will ever understand where they are coming from when they say stuff like

Selling Harry Potter pyjamas maes LGBT 'folx' unsafe ?

What on earth is up with that. I tried asking a TRA this once, a few months back and just got 'educate yourself'. Unfortunately for them though, thats absolutely the worst possible move they could pull, as when people do educate themselves, its almost inevitable they see through the bullshit.

TheChampagneGalop · 30/10/2020 22:16

@MNHQ why was my comment deleted, can we not say that there are people on twitter yelling t*rf at JKR or must the t word always be censored?

yourhairiswinterfire · 30/10/2020 22:20

This response to them saying they disagree with JKR and work with a Pride Employee Resource Group. 🙄 Have to get approval or permission from a trans person now before you dare mention or sell HP merch?

The entitlement is off.the.scale. Don't like it, don't buy it, easy. No need to get their, ahem, knickers in a twist.

It's hilarious how they can't go into any greater depth than an instruction to "educate yourself" when presumably you asking the question was an attempt to do just that?
They can't actually provide the information that they feel such disdain for the rest of us not being privy to.
Anyone telling me to educate myself is immediately marked down as nothing more than a windbag arsehole.

That’s because it’s in their heads.

The woke concept of safety is an interesting one. It means that having any kind of debate makes people unsafe but being cancelled in social media, doxxed and fired does not make the person it happened to unsafe because they deserved it by asking for debates which make marginalised groups unsafe.

I find this intellectually a fascinating trend. American and British universities are churning out students who believe that everyone has a right not to see or hear anything unpleasant, and feeling unsafe in that context is something one has the right to get stopped. So I was thinking if women should adopt the same strategy: Whenever someone uses 'vulva-owners' for biological women, just say that it feels you are being erased and literally killed and you now feel incredibly unsafe.

Would it work?
