Should I report my son for hate crime for not liking tomatoes or by husband for viciously eating one? 🍅

NotYourCisterinAus · 14/10/2020 03:05

So they're targeting Tomato Exclusionary Radical Vegetables (TERVs) now? Grin

Incidentally, I noticed a banana in that bar. Strictly speaking, aren't bananas herbs?

Toseland · 14/10/2020 06:31

So the Police are working for the rainbow flag now as shown on the helmet at the end - not for everyone?

ThinEndOfTheWedge · 14/10/2020 06:49

Don’t tell them about La Tomatina in Buñol Spain. They’ll have to take early retirement due to PTSD.

Unfortunately, I don't think the metaphor was ever intended by the creators to be that deep.

It would be funny if it wasn’t so creepy but sadly not surprising. The police clearly think men have the right to access female toilets/changing rooms - and are openly calling you a bigot/record a hate incident if you object.

And they know the reality of the crime statistics and patterns of behaviour.

The safety, dignity and privacy of women and girls - and our faith in the police- is completely irrelevant to them.

FairFriday · 14/10/2020 08:05

I wonder why they didn’t use a cucumber (also a fruit)...

I also wonder how much this nonsense cost...

Whatwouldscullydo · 14/10/2020 08:14

I also wonder how much this nonsense cost

Hopefully less than the 2/3 grand it costs to get stonewall to set you homework

KnightsofColumbusThatHurt · 14/10/2020 08:16

Did they honestly think that people would watch this and think 'oh now I understand, what a clever analogy, totally nails it'!

???

Also, nice to see that the EA characteristic of 'sex' is missing from their categories at the end there....

FairFriday · 14/10/2020 08:18

I don’t because I’m thinking - we’ll tomatoes have been scientifically categorised as fruit. It’s a fact. However, what they are ‘subtly’ trying to ‘prove’ isn’t a scientific fact. So nya.

FloralBunting · 14/10/2020 08:20

Anyone with a Christian background might recognize this... also a cartoon about veg, featuring a tomato, with a moral to the tale.

TheGreatWave · 14/10/2020 08:31

Do tomatoes have pockets? Where did the phone come from? Is Lemon boy allowed to graffiti that tomatoes are good? What happens when you go to the salad bar at pizza hut and there are apples?

Goodness far too many questions.

YetAnotherSpartacus · 14/10/2020 10:28

Are aubergines fruit or vegetables? Some young people I know told me that they 'stand-in' for penises in graphic terms.

FreezerBird · 14/10/2020 10:52

Oh now you've put the veggie tales theme in my head. I daren't click on that link for fear of a YouTube rabbit hole I may never return from.

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 14/10/2020 11:01

I just ......

[collapse of stout party]

EvenSupposing · 14/10/2020 11:26

I thought it was a prison. For veg. And I couldn't work out why the tomato was there. Has it assaulted a sweetcorn? Then I thought it was a very institutional looking school. But it's a bar? It's a horrible bar.

Would we expect to see broccoli on a salad bar? Maybe a nice deli one but not exactly ubiquitous like a tomato. Has the broccoli internalised its own self loathing and imposter syndrome and that is why it is attacking the tomato? Because tomatoes are far more welcome at most salad bars? I guess that's it? The broccoli is hoping no one will single it out for exclusion. I get it now. Sort of Confused

FloralBunting · 14/10/2020 11:35

FreezerBird, I'm going to be randomly singing "Oh Where is my hairbrush?" all day now! Grin

FairFriday · 14/10/2020 11:39

What about sprouts? People are so mean about sprouts...

TheGreatWave · 14/10/2020 11:57

Hate crime against sprouts is totally allowed.

FairFriday · 14/10/2020 12:02

That’s racist... or at least anti-brassica.

jdoejnr1 · 14/10/2020 12:04

The good news is D&C police have not signed up to this whole heartedly...oh wait!

In what fucking world is that the definition of 'sex'? I actually think that's one of the worst things i've seen. Arbitrary definitions of words.

Aesopfable · 14/10/2020 12:20

Their definition of nonbinary is quite a word salad. Actually it all is. Obviously trying to disconnect gender from sex stereotypes too but don’t seem to have landed anywhere else instead...

WeeBisom · 14/10/2020 13:08

This is so confusing and the analogy makes no sense. Tomatoes are both fruit and vegetables depending on the frame of reference - they are scientifically fruit, but regarded as vegetables in a culinary context. So the lemon at the end (haha) is committing a hate crime for saying something which is literally true?

DancelikeEmmaGoldman · 14/10/2020 13:17

I’ve been part of a government body which produced an animated film for a project. They are really resource intensive to produce - both in terms of time and money. Staff have to go off-line to do the tendering/contract negotiating/developer meetings/approval paperwork and sign-off.

Unless there has been an enormous increase in crimes against tomatoes in Devon and Cornwall, it’s hard to know how they justified the cost. I looked it up - their rape prosecution rate is woeful, but they have tens of thousands of pounds to spend on a not-very-clever film.

JellySlice · 14/10/2020 13:19

Unwatchable twaddle.

Tomatoes are as relevant as clownfish to this issue.

Europeans colonising America or Australia would be a better analogy.

sashh · 14/10/2020 13:23

I've put some posts on twitter but I'll summarise here:

How the hell can you be promoting equality and diversity and asking people to report hate crime when the tomato goes to a club with stairs but no lift or ramp, has no accessible toilets (and there is a fruit toilet the tomato could use) and has no subtitles and can't be accessed using a screen reader. Oh and I'm not too impressed with the BSL either.

So the lemon at the end (haha) is committing a hate crime for saying something which is literally true?
