Women targeted in stabbings in Belfast

Three women stabbed and two more punched in the neck/head. Motive isn't clear yet but I'm guessing it's no coincidence that the victims are all women.

So five women attacked and possibly linked to four other assaults but the police don't know if they were 'specifically targeted'? Well, seeing that they were all women aged 19-22 then I would suggest that they are being specifically targeted, just because he might not know their names he definitely has a target.

ThinkIveFoundYourMarbles · 13/10/2020 13:52

Indeed.

I hope they find CCTV footage

VaggieMight · 13/10/2020 13:56

Definitely not a hate crime then

DeliciouslyFemale · 13/10/2020 14:01

I’m sure it’s shear coincidence that they’re all women and absolutely not a misogynistic act of sex based violence. Poor souls. Northern Ireland is still a misogynistic shit hole, when it comes to how women are treated. I’m going by my own experiences and that if my female friends. One of my friends is a police officer and she says the force is rotten to the core with sexism and she just tries to keep her head down and get on with her job.

Annasgirl · 13/10/2020 14:02

@DeliciouslyFemale, I made a similar remark on here last year in relation to some item that happened in Belfast and was shot down for my hate speech!!!

Collidascope · 13/10/2020 14:12

It's horrific but I'm so glad the injuries aren't thought to be life-threatening. The trauma though. How is this not a hate crime? Or terrorism?

It’s all about keeping it hidden in case we’re not seen as progressive. Yet, even here, female spaces are now becoming unisex, at the expense of females. Scratch the surface of any ‘progressive’ movements and you’ll find the same old sexism. Even the change to abortion laws is just crumbs thrown to women. It’s up until 12 weeks, which means many women will end up hitting the limit, before they know they’re pregnant. Religion controls most laws here.

Because it’s only women. Women are disposable or probably asked for it, by looking at him wrongly or answering back. But it definitely definitely wasn’t male violence against women. It will have been a pure coincidence OR a bad mummy or ex girlfriend’s fault, that he did it.
SirVixofVixHall · 13/10/2020 17:46

Terrorism. If this was another specific group then it would be labelled as such.

I can already see the headlines.

Disgusting and you can bet your bottom dollar they would have caught him straight away if he was attacking men. Belfast is a joke and yes I can say that because I know the place very well. Look at how the troubles became all about men being killed even though plenty of women also were murdered. Same way with the Catholic church. Plenty of girls and women were abused, but it became all about boys. DV and rape have been on this rise there for years, but nothing is done about it. Abortion only became legal there in 2020. Says everything you need to know.

caughtalightsneeze · 13/10/2020 22:41

I saw an interview on the news earlier that really pissed me off.i can't remember if it was a police representative or a political representative but they said 'and these women were targeted when they were with friends and colleagues, so it's not as if they were alone'. It just pissed me off so much that the undertone of it was that if they had been alone it would somehow have been more understandable.

You think?

Men get fatally stabbed almost weekly and it barely hits the news. The other month there were like three deaths in one night.

DeliciouslyFemale · 14/10/2020 01:19

The police are currently at a house where some incident with an axe has taken place. It has been suggested that this is linked to the attacks on females.

Oh, that's horrible. I wonder if it's a nutter or a terror attack (or maybe neither).

Some of them undoubtedly were. Two men were shot and killed last week just down the road from me in Brierley Hill, presumably with same gun as found in a car together. I'm not sure it even made national news.

kattyboomboom · 14/10/2020 01:41

I've just googled that murder as this thread reminded me and seems the names have been released. Both lads lived just over a mile from where I do! (the bodies were found a bit further away).

Were they targeted solely because they were men?
powershowerforanhour · 14/10/2020 02:12

Thank goodness for the small mercy of gun laws.

kattyboomboom · 14/10/2020 02:46

Well, I've not had a chance to speak to the killer yet as police haven't caught him, but most stabbings are aimed at males because usually they're about asserting dominance over a geographical area. If a group of lads stray into the wrong postcode they can very easily end up a statistic.

kattyboomboom · 14/10/2020 02:47

I don't really want an argument though tbh, just saying that men have it much worse in the violence arena and it's silly to pretend otherwise.
