Is it wrong to read Stephen King now?

I agree with JKR not SK on the issue of whether it is possible to change sex. I am horrified at the abuse that JKR has received and believe that trans rights should never be at the expense of women and girls.

I recently read a Stephen King book and enjoyed it and posted about enjoying it on a book thread on here. Someone suggested I shouldn't be reading Stephen King because of his views.

Surely this is just as bad as people trying to erase JKR for her views and does women's rights no good? Am i missing something, am I wrong for enjoying these books?

@BillywilliamV you forgot to mention that Orwell was a homophobe as well! He still wrote great books.

Precisely, there would be very little art if we only accepted it from people who met our current standards of morality.

I stated reading SK when I was around 11-12 (yes, probably far too young). Recently went back and re- read the first SK book I ever read, Rose Madder. I've always found his writing a bit hit and miss, and kind of expected to find it a bit of a disappointment on a second read (especially over 2 decades after I last read it) but it was a powerful read about a woman fleeing her abusive husband, finding safety in a refuge, only to have him shatter that. It was far scarier than his more traditional horror books, and the main character felt well written - I haven't always found his female characters are well written.

I haven't read any new SK books in a while, I don't have the same love for horror I used to, but wouldn't rule them out entirely just because I don't agree with his personal views.
